Does this win guarantee Braun comes back?

It was a great win, but I still think Braun had a lot to prove.

Penn St is a legit mess right now and at the end of the year they may not even be bowl eligible.

Still early. We win 6, it’s hard to argue at NU for firing a bowl coach. We end up with 4 (unlikely) or 5 (could happen) then the admin could easily say they want to move on for the long term success of the program in the new stadium.

Things were looking bleak after the Tulane game, like the team had potentially taken a step back. However, the last few weeks look like the team has made some solid improvement. If the team continues to play strong, and especially if they get to 6 wins, I think he is pretty safe.

He still has to recruit and right now, that is really worrisome

Tulane continues to win. Only loss so far is at 3# Ole Miss who will doubtless win again today.

I mean, they can't lose every remaining game. I'd say safe w 6+ wins, on the bubble with 5.

Edit, I mean I don't think he survives if they lose every remaining game

No. But hopefully it bodes well!

Guys, the season is only half over. There is more to accomplish. Just like benching Stine for Boe after 2 games would have been absurd so would overreacting now be.

Just enjoy the damn win, we can banter about how to readjust our total win projections tomorrow.

Does it guarantee it? It can't. I don't think it will, but if this turned out to be our last win this year, we won't bring them back.

I would at least like to see one more win this year and play hard in the rest. Looking at the schedule, if they get to six wins, I believe it will be a heck of an accomplishment.

Agree with Adam. Let’s let the season play out.
I don't see any advantage in not letting Braun finish out the season regardless of how things go. Who you going to bring in? Will they magically make the team better? No. It's not like the players have quit on him, far from it. Should Jackson be looking at possibilities for a change next year? Always.

Not too many people have advocated for his immediate firing, even as we became more skeptical. Lujan was probably at more risk of a midsession move. Personally, I thought and still think most of the weakness of this roster is just in places where there isn’t enough talent, not that the coaching is being badly done, and certainly not that the coaching is so bad a mid season desperation change like UCLA would unlock anything.

Oh there were definitely some major costly head scratcher offensive play calls last year. And the game plan for Tulane and lack of adjustments to get some high% passes going were inexcusable. Since then have been good offensive gameplans, you could tell even when we lost vs Oregon.

Too early. Same with Lujan. I have significantly more questions about Lujan.
Lujan has not shown much in his 1.5 years here. More steady now that he actually has an OL and running game but still, nothing special

Maybe we better be worried more about keep Braun after this season, rather than whether he should be replaced or not.

Other schools could potentially make very attractive offers for him if things end up as they could.
At issue is the recruiting. While somewhat better than last year it is still at the very back of the BIG. And recent offers don't look like there is improvement coming this year. If he is brought back, that has to improve A LOT next year to justify keeping him longer

I am far from a football expert, but I thought the play call to get the long TD to Wilde was a really nice design. Not sure if they anticipated the run blitz or not, but it was the perfect play call for PSU's defense. The TE did a great job scraping across the line to pick up the run blitzer and the play action worked perfect leading to Wilde getting a one-on-one in which he abused the DB with a really nice route. That was a pretty play call and execution.

See.... just call the damn TD play!! How hard is that??! 🤪

Recruiting depends a lot on your win/loss record, position within the conference, and bowl appearances. Make a big improvement in those and recruiting successes will follow.
This is important, no doubt. But I don't think it's the entire picture. A better record this year doesn't guarantee improved recruiting. Braun and company have to convince these kids in their living rooms (though cash also helps).

It did not help much after the 8-5 season

Even the blind pig finds an acorn once in a while. Gotta see more consistent calls that give a strategic advantage. It has gotten somewhat better with the ability to use the run game but gotta see more improvement if he is gonna keep his job

I have to admire Braun. He was handed the position under terrible circumstances and has done surprisingly well with it. Whenever I see him on TV, he shows passion, enthusiasm, youthful exuberance. I'd love to keep him on as HC but we'll need to see what he can accomplish in terms of recruiting.... I hope he can land some prizes
