Does This Inspire Confidence?

I took it as starting a discussion while mocking the "we shouldn't criticize them because they're kids" crowd, but feel free to infer whatever you want I guess. Some of you have such a boner for Kong that no matter what he says, you're going to call it "trolling" (which most of you use incorrectly). If it weren't for him and a small handful of other posters who can discuss things objectively, this place would just be an echo chamber of Husker homers. It'd be Husker Max.

We root for the team, and the players. Just because the players get paid now, doesn’t mean we own them, or their free time.

yeah, one of the portal/nil downsides - fans now even booing their teams. i heard it down here during k-state's loss to arizona state and could not believe my ears. fans see these guys not as student-athletes, many in their teens, but rather professionals who owe them something. it's really a sad change to the gameday experience.

I

It neither does nor doesn't inspire confidence (I assume you're referring to confidence in their ability to play football). But it sure is something to consider when fans blast these kids for having the audacity to lose football games at times. A bunch of goofy college kids playing a game, and way too often it is considered a life and death proposition by purported adults who cheer on the teams the kids play for.
They stopped being "just kids" when they started making more money than I do.

Are they supposed to turn it down? Have you ever turned down a raise?

He wasn't saying that at all, but...

They can turn it down if they don't want to deal with the reality of the downside that comes with all the money. They can't have it both ways, though. You can't say, "I'm an adult, I want to be treated like an adult, I want to be paid like an adult, I deserve to get compensated for my name, image and likeness...but, but, but, don't criticize me publicly because I'm just a kid and that's mean.

The money is for football.
How does dancing with a friend for a video affect anything to do with what he’s paid to do?
If I made a similar video right now, although silly, it wouldn’t affect my
Job in any way.

That’s because the kids started sobering up about the 3rd quarter and realized they were watching a Kansas State football game. No wonder they started booing.

Let this just sink in

In 1997, Tom Osborne's salary as the head football coach at the University of Nebraska was $138,000, and he also received a $50,000 bonus after winning the National Championship.
Base Salary: $138,000
Bonus: $50,000 (for winning the National Championship)

Then if you want to talk about inflation...

If $188,000 from 1997 were adjusted for inflation to March 13, 2025, it would be equivalent to approximately $366,688.31.
Here's a breakdown:
Base Amount: $188,000 in 1997
Target Date: March 13, 2025
Inflation Adjustment: Using an inflation calculator, the equivalent value in 2025 is approximately $366,688.31

So basically multiple players are making more than our hall of fame head coach, and they are celebrating going to the Pinstripe bowl. I am sorry but if we don't start winning again soon, I am going to have a really hard time supporting this crap show anymore

Might as well throw in this too...

In 2025, the salaries of the Nebraska Cornhuskers football coaches are:
Matt Rhule: Head coach, $7.5 million
Marcus Satterfield: Tight ends coach, $1.4 million
Dana Holgorsen: Offensive coordinator, $1.2 million
John Butler: Defensive coordinator, $1 million
E.J. Barthel: Running backs coach, $450,000
Mike Ekeler: Special teams coordinator, $625,000
Phil Snow: Associate head coach, $400,000
Glenn Thomas: Quarterbacks coach, $800,000
Daikiel Shorts: Receivers coach, $400,000
Terry Bradden: Defensive line coach, $400,000
Phil Simpson: Edge rushers coach, $350,000

My only takeaway is that Tom was underpaid🤑

In all seriousness - the money pouring into college football the past 25 years has been astounding and to see it black and white how much more the salaries have exploded vs inflation is staggering. Thanks for the info.

If I remember correctly Tom didn’t want any more pay and when he did get a bonus he gave it to his assistants
