The Federation kept making the claim that the women declined to be paid under the same structure as the men and apparently the judge believed them.

Hard to believe the players would be shameless enough to pursue their claim if that's actually what happened, but pretty much all they would have to do to avoid dismissal at this stage is deny that they were offered such a structure.

I think they were fighting an uphill battle from the beginning. Courts are extremely reluctant to overturn a collectively bargained agreement. Labor negotiations would be chaos otherwise. They should be paid more, but the way to achieve that is in the next collective bargaining agreement by going on strike then or filing suit then.

I don't know that they should be paid more. They might should take more upside and more risk in the next negotiations, but it certainly looks like they were paid fairly or more than fairly if you read through the Judge's opinion (found here: https://www.npr.org/2020/05/02/8494...sses-u-s-womens-soccer-team-s-equal-pay-claim). Granted, lots of people take unreasonable positions in negotiations just as posturing, but that opinion makes the women look bad. Don't guess it matters as virtually nobody will read it and no journalist has an interest in bashing the US team on this issue, but it makes them look awful.

I think the federation is preparing to have to pay more to the women. One of the reasons you saw the DAs basically be handed over to the MLS clubs to run through their academies.

Don't the gals make higher endorsement dollars than the boys?

I recall reading Rapino (?) and another were north of 5MM.

Yes. And this is going to hurt women's soccer in the USA because there's no equivalent to the MLS developmental academies for the women. If the 2 sides can't work together, the US women's team is going to become Brazil. Still a top international team, but no major championships in almost 20 years.

College is and essentially has been the DA for our women for a while. Hopefully we will see partnerships between the MLS and NWSL to allow for the MLS team to run a women’s and men’s academy.
