Does the Starting 5 Finally Change?

I think last night was a great example of why it needs to change. To start the game and to start the half the starting 5 allowed a lot of points and it just wasn’t working. It’s quite obvious now certain people need to be on the court to start the game. I just hope Cal sees this and makes the changes to help this team.

People can say that it doesn’t matter who starts but like I said last night was a great example on why it does matter.

I agree about the Mitchell return when it happens. Otherwise, nope, how many of you here have been around for every season with Cal? Hasn't history taught you anything? It is a big problem because getting down because of how we start and whom we start will get more dicey in the tournament.

Cal isn't going to change because he knows the fanbase wants it. It would be nice not to be down by double digits 3 or 4 minutes into the game. Getting off to slow starts is enough reason to try something different. Any non agenda driven coach would see this and at least try to shake things up a little

No, I think at this point the players are used to the way it is set up. Whether we like it or not as fans, players get used to a routine and the routine has been DJ and Ugo starting. We are starting to round into form it looks like, so I am of the opinion we don't rock the boat now. Just make sure the right lineup is playing the lion's share of the minutes and crunch time.

No they don't. The coaching staff knows who to play and when.

No because Cal has to get DJ to be a lottery pick.

Why not try reverse psychology?

There's a reason starters are your best players. Cal is likely just sticking with this due to superstition more than anything. RRR is our best 123 by a mile. Starting DJ an Justin is just isn't the best option imo as the 2 that replace them are literally LOTTERY picks.

If Edwards plays like Bsma gsme or DJ like he playedca few weeks early in season then keep em in otherwise RRR should get 25 min a gsme together

Well we all know what the actual answer is.

But last night was another example of what happens to UK at the start of halves. In the first 5:40 of the first half and the first 2:20 of the second half we were outscored 23-7.

Absolutely cannot keep letting that happen and not go out early in March.
Who starts the game is just as important as who finishes it.

23-7 should be all a coach needs to see, but then there are multiple recent examples in games(just pick one) As someone said earlier in this thread continue to bring Dillingham off the bench. Sheppard brings so much to the table, give the team a jump start with Sheppard and go from there

I'd like to see Reed as our starting PG as he's earned it and the team is much more focused and in sync. Hard for me to put Dillingham in starting lineup until he learns to control those stupid fouls. He has to sit so often already because he constantly gets himself in foul trouble. Rather have him available at crunch time and other spots during the game rather than start picking up fouks on the first couple of minutes.

Mitchell returning will be the worst thing that can happen to this team. He is a lazy defender that will eventually play 35 minutes a game.

I stay with DJ in the next two games that should be wins.
Hope he builds off the solid game he had last night.
If he struggles, you make the move to Reed at UT.
