Does seven wins achieve a Day 1 Bye?

After about half way through the conference schedule, given where we are and the remaining schedule, my hopes for the season have changed.

I think an aggressive yet reasonable goal is to get a Day 1 bye in the B1G Tournament. I think that means being a 10 seed or higher. Will be tough given the log jam from 8-13. If you told me that was possible in the beginning of the year, I would have been thrilled.

Question - how many wins will it take to get a Day 1 bye? Seven?

given that Penn State is going to be bottom 4, the other suspects are RU, Ill, NW, OSU, Indy and Nebby. I going to say OSU will not be in the bottom 4. Chances are that Illinois will be. then you have NW, RU and Nebby where two of the 3 are bottom 4..tough call but I think you are right...7 wins should be enough given alot teams beating up on each other.

Illinois has two wins. Remaining schedule:
01/30/19 at Minnesota 9:00 PM
02/02/19 NEBRASKA 2:15 PM
02/05/19 MICHIGAN STATE 7:00 PM
02/09/19 RUTGERS 4:00 PM
02/14/19 at Ohio State 7:00 PM
02/18/19 at Wisconsin 8:00 PM
02/23/19 PENN STATE 12:00 PM
02/27/19 at Purdue 8:30 PM
03/03/19 NORTHWESTERN 6:30 PM
03/07/19 INDIANA 8:00 PM
03/10/19 at Penn State 12:00 PM

Games vs bottom seven contenders:7 (Nebraska, Rutgers, at Ohio State, Penn State, Northwestern, Indiana, at Penn State). That's a lot of games vs the others in the mix.

Indiana has three wins. Remaining schedule:
01/30/19 at Rutgers 7:00 PM
02/02/19 at Michigan State 12:00 AM
02/07/19 IOWA 9:00 PM
02/10/19 OHIO STATE 1:00 PM
02/16/19 at Minnesota 2:00 PM
02/19/19 PURDUE 7:00 PM
02/22/19 at Iowa 9:00 PM
02/26/19 WISCONSIN 9:00 PM
03/02/19 MICHIGAN STATE 12:00 PM
03/07/19 at Illinois 8:00 PM
03/10/19 RUTGERS 12:00 PM

Games vs bottom seven contenders: 4 (at Rutgers, Ohio State, at Illinois, Rutgers) Pretty tough schedule! If we win tonight, there's not much margin for error for them to get to seven wins without pulling off upsets.

Nebraska has three wins. Remaining schedule:
02/02/19 at Illinois 2:15 PM
02/06/19 MARYLAND 7:00 PM
02/09/19 at Purdue 7:00 PM
02/13/19 MINNESOTA 9:00 PM
02/16/19 NORTHWESTERN 8:30 PM
02/19/19 at Penn State 7:00 PM
02/23/19 PURDUE 4:00 PM
02/28/19 at Michigan 7:00 PM
03/05/19 at Michigan State 7:00 PM
03/10/19 IOWA 2:00 PM

Games vs bottom seven: three (at Illinois, Northwestern, at Penn State) - oh man, they could fall off a cliff. I expect them to finish bottom four at this point.

Northwestern with three wins. Remaining games:
02/04/19 PENN STATE 8:00 PM
02/10/19 at Iowa 6:30 PM
02/13/19 RUTGERS 7:00 PM
02/16/19 at Nebraska 8:30 PM
02/20/19 at Ohio State 8:30 PM
02/23/19 WISCONSIN 8:30 PM
02/28/19 MINNESOTA 9:00 PM
03/03/19 at Illinois 6:30 PM
03/06/19 OHIO STATE 9:00 PM
03/09/19 PURDUE 2:30 PM

Games vs bottom seven: six (Penn State, Rutgers, at Nebraska, at Ohio State, at Illinois, Ohio State). They have chances to win games.

Ohio State with three wins, remaining games:
02/02/19 RUTGERS 12:00 PM
02/07/19 PENN STATE 7:00 PM
02/10/19 at Indiana 1:00 PM
02/14/19 ILLINOIS 7:00 PM
02/17/19 at Michigan State 1:00 PM
02/20/19 NORTHWESTERN 8:30 PM
02/23/19 at Maryland 2:00 PM
02/26/19 IOWA 7:00 PM
03/02/19 at Purdue 2:00 PM
03/06/19 at Northwestern 9:00 PM
03/10/19 WISCONSIN 4:30 PM

Games vs bottom seven: six (Rutgers, Penn State, at Indiana, Illinois, Northwestern, at Northwestern) Their next four games are all from this list so if they don't make progress over that stretch, it will be hard to do so later. Gotta figure they win a few of these upcoming games.

Penn State has zippo. Remaining schedule:
01/31/19 PURDUE 7:00 PM
02/04/19 at Northwestern 8:00 PM
02/07/19 at Ohio State 7:00 PM
02/12/19 MICHIGAN 8:30 PM
02/16/19 at Purdue 4:00 PM
02/19/19 NEBRASKA 7:00 PM
02/23/19 at Illinois 12:00 PM
02/27/19 MARYLAND 6:30 PM
03/02/19 at Wisconsin 1:00 PM
03/06/19 at Rutgers 7:00 PM
03/10/19 ILLINOIS 12:00 PM

Games vs bottom seven: six (at Northwestern, at Ohio State, Nebraska, at Illinois, at Rutgers, Illinois). Yeah, I don't see them making it to seven. Only two home games left against the bottom of the current standings. They probably will not get to three wins at this rate.

Rutgers with three wins. Remaining slate:
01/30/19 INDIANA 7:00 PM
02/02/19 at Ohio State 12:00 PM
02/05/19 MICHIGAN 8:00 PM
02/09/19 at Illinois 4:00 PM
02/13/19 at Northwestern 7:00 PM
02/16/19 IOWA 6:00 PM
02/20/19 at Michigan State 6:30 PM
02/24/19 MINNESOTA 6:30 PM
03/02/19 at Iowa 5:00 PM
03/06/19 PENN STATE 7:00 PM
03/10/19 at Indiana 12:00 PM

Games vs bottom seven: six (Indiana, at Ohio State, at Illinois, at Northwestern, Penn State, at Indiana). Tough part is four of these are on the road, making tonight very important to our chances of getting to seven wins. I won't write off pulling a home upset in the other three games with some good RAC-mosphere.

Man, it's nice to have interesting basketball coming up when it is almost February!

Yeah but I still ask...isn't playing day 1 more opportunity for another win?

We're not running the tourney. So another 2 and 1 to me is better than 1 and out with a bye, since I see this team needing to warm up in these events vs. Jump in a win.

Then again, the not bottom 4 finish by itself is likely worth it.

I don't know. Just a thought.

Minnesota should win against Illinois tonight (leading by 6 with 11 minutes left as I type) but just in case... they could easily fade down the stretch. Check out this schedule:

01/30/19 ILLINOIS 9:00 PM
02/03/19 at Purdue 12:00 PM
02/06/19 WISCONSIN 9:00 PM
02/09/19 at Michigan State 2:00 PM
02/13/19 at Nebraska 9:00 PM
02/16/19 INDIANA 2:00 PM
02/21/19 MICHIGAN 7:00 PM
02/24/19 at Rutgers 6:30 PM
02/28/19 at Northwestern 9:00 PM
03/05/19 PURDUE 8:00 PM
03/08/19 at Maryland 6:30 PM

They are 5-4. They will be underdogs at Purdue, Michigan State, and probably Maryland, and at home vs Michigan and Purdue. If they lose all of those, that's 6-9 even if they get the win tonight. Toss-up at home vs Wisconsin, and they should be favored against Indiana at home. Road games at Nebraska, Rutgers, and Northwestern... that is not an easy slate.

I have more confidence that we will win at NW than I do that we will win 7.

Fans are thinking “woulda, coulda, shoulda” about the first NW game, imagine what the team is thinking!

If we do win at NW, I'm pretty confident we will win at least 7. PSU at home = 6, and we'd just need to grab one more the rest of the way.

I think Minny is a tourney team and has looked the part. I think they go 11-9/12-8 and they will beat either Purdue or Michigan at home or both. Don't sleep on them, they are 16-5

Agree but they’ve been terrible on the road (I like our chances against them at home).

I watched the 2nd half of the Minnesota game last night. It was similar to our grand there, except Illinois faded earlier than we did. Announcers hyped us up when discussing Minnesota's upcoming schedule. They do seem likely to stay in the top 6 of the league.
