As fans, we’ve had enough exposure to Sellers to realize he’s not the QB we hoped he’d be, nor is he the “Heisman candidate” Beamer tried to promote. Everything you stated is an accurate assessment of Sellers.

As to your last question, until there are player contracts and expected standards, these young men will have the leverage to be on the field regardless of their production.

Can you see Beamer going to the NIL donor(s) and saying, “I’m going to bench the player you are paying millions because I was wrong about his ability and our coaching”? I can’t.

I don't think 18istheman, I just don't believe he has the desire to hold Sellers accountable. In his teleconference call last night he even acknowledges the OL line gave him plenty of time (as he reference a clean pocket) but gave credit the coverage by MSU. At this point, I will try to curb my optimism and try to find the positives, such the vastly improved performance of our OL and we have discovered a solid FG kicker. This is where Beamer really loses me. He's so defensive. Coverage had NOTHING to do with those interceptions by Sellers. They were just inexcusably bad throws from a P4 starting QB.

Maybe he has analysis paralysis. Happens to athletes who are over-coached. I don't mean to say that Briles has over-coached him, but just that he has been coached by 3 different guys in the last 3 years.

Even though there is some credence to giving someone else a try, I agree that the season will "ride or die" with Sellers. To do otherwise, would be admission of defeat by Beamer and would most likely end with him being fired as Head Coach. You would need a miracle performance by Woods or anyone else to come in and save the season with no previous experience. One thing I may try is to bring Woods in for a few series against Alabama if it gets out of hand. See what he can do against an Alabama defense even if it is against backups. Get him comfortable with some reps under his belt. It, also, would allow Sellers to take a step back and relax. You can tell in his throwing motion that he is not trusting what he sees out there and turning it loose. He is aiming the ball.

Or maybe he just can't process quickly enough to execute in real-time? Some people are mental tractors and others are drag racers - strong, slower workhorses or quick-witted.

Regardless, his inaccuracy isn't a result of over (or under) coaching, it's an ability thing. Either he can make accurate throws or he can't. So, far, he hasn't demonstrated he can and anyone paying attention has seen that since the beginning. At first it was a suspicion based on the occasional but still too often throw, but we have a big enough body of work to now say it's a fact. It is who he is. If the coaches choose to ignore that, then they'll live with the results.

Beamer has painted himself into a corner with Seller and Harbor. He has let them become the faces of the offense and making a change would bring about questions about everything else he has sold the fans. Sellers is not a good QB and Harbor is not a good WR, that is obvious to anyone who has watched them play.

Beamer needs to stick with them and hope things work out. If he brings in Woods and Woods doesn't light it up, Beamer looks foolish. Woods should have gotten more reps against the cupcakes.

Hadn't thought of it in these terms but yeah, Sellers will be the man for the season no matter what. Beamer is too petty to admit he was wrong.

They ought to go into the Bama game knowing they'll give Woods some real reps, put him in sometime in the 2nd for a series. Spurrier once said of Shaw that he played better in the games that he knew Dylan Thompson was going to play. In 2013 it was a regular occurrence for DT to get some regular action when the game was still meaningful. Maybe that could work here.

The problem with "turn him loose" is, opposing DCs know how to contain him now. They know they don't have to sack him, they only have to make him uncomfortable in the pocket and contain him. If there aren't open running lanes and he is forced to hold the ball, he will make a bad decision.

Designed QB runs are some of his best plays because that is what he likes to do the most. Unfortunately, those runs get pretty easy to defend when the D starts looking for them.
