Does Our Point Guard Wheeler Come Back Next Year?

Was supposed to have happened this season too and then there was Oscar, Toppin and Brooks or a combination of 2-3 bigs on the court most all of the time. No way Toppin doesn't start next season and he's not playing the 5.

I don’t really see Wheeler coming back, so we are likely looking at Toppin starting at the 4.

But in the scenario you listed, I think Wallace, Cook, and Livingston will start, based on Cal’s track record. He doesn’t bring in talent like those three and not play/start them. They are guards/wings, so that would leave two spots and one is the 5 spot. So unless Toppin plays the 5, or Wheeler goes to the bench, Toppin likely remains a reserve. Maybe it’s Wallace, Cook, Livingston, Toppin, and a Big (Collins/Transfer) with Wheeler being the spark plug off the bench. Either way, Wheeler and Toppin are in the rotation.

He said that was his goal, to make it to NBA. He never said he was coming here for one year only. If he did, I'd need to see it or read it. Goals and hopefullness.

Yeah and that’s what I had heard too but NIL may have changed that situation. Can’t see many guys going overseas to play when they can make similar money in college. One thing overlooked is it’s much harder to crack the NBA coming from overseas so if he has NBA long shot expectations makes sense to return. Not saying he does come back but I would lean that way unless he thinks he might lose minutes.

Wheeler needs to come back and develop a shot. Give him a strong 3 point shot and he's Tim Hardaway. Without an outside shot he would struggle in the G league.

Where would he go? He is not a NBA prospect. He is a 5-10 very good college guard who does a great job breaking down college defenses and has great leadership skill. He will be back.

Before he got hurt, he was leading the country in assists. He’s also shooting 80% from three-point range over his last three games. Like him or not, it’s ridiculous to say he’s only a serviceable college point guard.

See, this is where Cal should be changing the culture. These kids have UK and NIL, if they aren't NBA first rounders, UK is the best place for them.

If he still can't or won't bring guys like Brooks, Collins, Toppin and Wheeler back with everything there is to offer here, it's never going to happen.

Also, if it was me, I would find a way to get Oscar back, or get Kofi to transfer in.
