Does our NIL $$$$ game need work?

Lane Kiffin was quoted the other day saying that CFB recruiting was now basically free agency with kids comparing NIL $ offers and choosing the school where they could bank the most paper.

The optimist in me thought that we were ahead of the curve of NIL hitting when we came out as one of the early supporters of the idea. The results of recruiting however, lead me to believe this was all talk. With the exception of Martinez, is anybody aware of any deals our football players had. His was the only one I remember hearing about.

Let's get these beef producers in line. Heck let's start a burger chain dedicated to pumping money into Nebraska NIL.

From this point on, every advertising deal inside the stadium needs to require an NIL component. No Pepsi bottle races on the big screen unless the star recruits are bathing in Pepsi cash.

Where are the posters who were belching up their information about how Nebraska would be in the top 5 to 10 colleges to benefit from NIL??? Their predictions have aged as well as the ones they made about Scott Frost’s performance once he had his players and system in place.

It does make you wonder while the fundraisers are out raising millions for another swanky structure on campus if recruits would be more impressed with those millions going in NIL rather than a nicer locker and water fountain.

Better get the packer/processing companies to pony up the $$. Beef producers sure aren't making the money

Its so simple. Which area of the country has the most money? Highest GDP? Highest disposable income? Average Alumni Salary, Notable Alumni, Major industries. Answer that question and look at the recruiting rankings this year. Johnny Carson isnt gonna be paying any recruits anytime soon.

I'll take 'Tuscaloosa' for $1000, Alex

This is why we need a ground swell of the $5, $10, and $20 variety.

Look at out of state attendance at the university of alabama vs UNL. Look at where those students generally come from. Hint: its not tuscaloosa. Also you ever been to that campus? The frats have formals on yachts in the gulf. UNL has the north bottoms. You have no idea what youre talking about

Supposedly it's against NCAA rules for coaches to mention NIL money to recruits.

Undoubtedly they would care more about $$$ in their own pockets than a shiny new building to hang sweaty socks. Besides, what the hell is wrong with the old brand-new locker room, weight room, lounge, offices, etc. they just built 15 years ago?

If my job offered to double my salary or remodel my office, I know what choice I would make.

You said "Which area of the country has the most money?"

I said "Tuscaloosa".

And I stand by it.

We may have been out in front of it, but that doesn't mean we have the companies or individuals that want to shell out the cash to play with the big boys.

I will not be surprised if a QB recruit or a RB hailed to be the next Adrian Peterson is given a 8 figure deal to go to a school.

Deion Sanders had a contract and believe some equity through the deal in Barstool Sports the last few years. Based on the recent news, it appears, they likely worked out an arrangement for Barstool to hand out a bunch of NIL money to specific recruits. In some crazy way, that connection may actual earn Deion a gig at a big school sometime very soon.

If there was any company to back your team with NIL cash... I would probably want Barstool Sports. Dave Portnoy will likely hand out millions just to watch the chaos. I believe they can simply run a promotion with the players name and make it legit.

As much as it seems out of control and kind of sucks. There is no way they are putting this Jennie back in that bottle, so we better embrace this and be proactive.

Remember when the Husker Athletic department said they were leading the country in how to maximize the NIL money for players? I remember them pushing the heck out of that statement. Just like normal Nebraska wins the pre-season and flops when it matters. Tired of this crap. Oh well I got to see Husker football in the hey day of 70's -2000.

Alabama quarterback Bryce Young has earned well over $1 million in NIL. Husker fans are kidding themselves if they think Nebraska could even come close to something like that.
Nebraska doesn’t have the population base or the boosters to support NIL like big name programs do.
Quite literally the only hope we would have would be that Warren Buffett decides to set up a NIL trust and put several billion dollars in it. But since that would never happen, Nebraska does not have any hope.

Excellent point. Hell, we aren’t even winning the pre-season anymore. A year ago we were telling ourselves how great the season was going to be as we closed on another top 20 recruiting class. Now we have the 59th ranked class going into year 5.

IF the people in charge of Nebraska football players NIL are thinking this, then that’s the first problem.

Nebraskans who have never left the state don’t realize the fan base outside of the state. Every city I go to has a Husker fan base. I have a running bet with a buddy and it never fails me, If we go to a bar (any bar) and Nebraska is coming on, there will be at least one random Nebraska fan (me and my friends company excluded).

Husker football is truly nationally.

We’ve got to get our players followers on social media and get the influencer money rolling.

Have them do podcasts on YouTube.

There is so much much more they can be doing then Dorthy Lynch Salad dressing, and Runza. They aren’t thinking globally.

Look at our TV ratings when we are on another network besides B1G. We have a large fan base

Having more fans doesn't make a difference because the average joe isn't shelling out money for NIL. Nebraska fan network doesn't have many billionaires or even 100+millionaires handing out cash because they want this team to succeed. If they did, we'd already be leading the NIL..

you obviously have no idea about all the people making millions on social media do you? I mean people been doing this for 10 years now. It’s not complicated. Just need followers, something Nebraska fans do better than anyone. Follow the team. Follow the players on instagram

I heard all the hoopla over NIL and Nebraska was going to cash in but where is it?

There are limitations on all of this especially given the size of Nebraska. 1.8 million (or whatever it is now) isn't a big market. Then factor in the budgets of companies for advertising. They have so much allotted and some can go directly to a player or some to the University. Here is a news flash, there isn't an unlimited pot of cash just sitting out there for businesses to give away.

How you would you like to be a business in Nebraska and get hit up for donations for UNL scholarship fund, football team, sports complex and NIL for individual players. That isn't even considering the local high schools and all their programs.

Someone is going to have to show me how Nebraska can compete in this market.

All the hype was from the sunshine pumpers who had been proven wrong on every prediction they made about Scott Frost, so they latched onto NIL to continue living in their fantasyland. The problem with that strategy is that reality always comes around.

Ladies and gentlemen – welcome to reality.

How long before NIL gets tied to players performance? You don't start, you get no NIL
