I was also thinking 6-10. Obviously it depends on many factors. If they can gel and defend well enough I think the potential is even higher. Zoom and Wilkins will be key. How do they run the team? How much do they turn the ball over? How well do they defend and shoot? Lastly, and maybe this sounds like a small detail but Zoom is a good long rebounder. Can he get us 3-4 extra possessions grabbing long rebounds?

Yeah, I think anywhere from about 5-15 would be justifiable. Assuming the courtroom drama doesn’t take another turn and Mitchell is actually allowed to play, he answers a big question we were going to have at the 4 spot. I still think we’re a little thin at guard to move the next step up to be considered a preseason championship favorite.

Zoom should be solid. We have high hopes for Wilkins, but we’ll have to wait and see if he can reduce the turnovers and refine his shot selection all while taking a big step up in the level of competition. If one of them either isn’t as advertised or gets injured though, all we have to fall back on is a freshman outside the top 100 who we’re hoping might be a hidden gem and a guy who averaged 8 points per game in the WCC. The best case scenario for a special season still exists, but that isn’t very much margin for error at that position.

The only thing holding us back from a top ten (this is the truth) is that pope has under-achieved with his teams as opposed to over-achieved.

I hate duke but like that Mitchell started 67 games for Duke.

I think Mitchell firmly puts us in a top 4 seed come tournament time. Can Zoom and Alex take advantage of open shots? Can we defend anyone? Our defense is suspect but hopefully everyone will play hard and fast.

we wont displace florida, duke, illinois, uconn, arizona. but we should be in the next tier of teams like michigan, michigan state, texas, and tennessee. i think we have a better roster and better depth pieces that most of these teams but pope isnt going to get any favors from the media until he actually wins something.

but with the addition of mitchell, i expect us to be 19-1 or 18-2 twenty games in the year. which will probably make us a top 3 team in the nation at that point.

Just win. The rankings will work themselves out with the schedule we play. It wouldn't hurt to come out of the gates and start putting it on our non-conference schedule like a veteran team should. We've got some dudes on this roster. Play fast, play hard, and make shots.

Top 10 roster, will be 10-15 because of Pope not showing what he has as a coach yet. Should be in the Texas, Tennessee range if not for Pope.
