cleared to play?
No. And if anything it's probably a trap by the NCAA to later say "after further review, SC acted improperly and is therefore banned forever from anything until further notice." Just my grumpy theory on it.

Another theory - NCAA is deliberately stringing this kid along as an example to other kids around the country that might want to get a 6th and 7th year, etc.... NCAA might already know the kid is eligible to play, but might not want to open the floodgates so easily that all of a sudden they get 10,000 requests put in to them for perceived "extra" eligibility. Make the kids who do it go through hell so they'll think twice before trying. At the end of the day, who knows?
