Does Ash know what he's doing?

I think it is being highly generous to the incoming staff to assume that these flips are the result of Ash not wanting these kids for his different system. I am not saying it isn't true, but only that without more knowledge, it is a generous assumption to make.

It is late in the game, and we need bodies to fill the spots. If Ash plans to replace these kids with other kids, conventional wisdom would be to start overrecruiting, and then let kids you dont want know to look elsewhere. But it seems clear enough to me that these kids are being actively targeted by schools trying to fill out their own classes, and they are leaving because they don't know what is going on.
Ash probably forgot that he is required to keep us in the loop....

He also just started following Phil Campbell after he decommited so he probably wants him but just hasn't put in the effort yet. That is kind of unacceptable for being a week in.
He had an in home visit with Phil Campbell before he took his official this past weekend. Anyone ever think its about playing time? Our DBacks are young and now have a years experience Could be tough to get on the field

They have a year's experience getting burned on the field, being out of position and running around like squirrels in headlights. I'm not sure how much better they will be next year as a result. I'm thinking maybe not much.

Our head coaches specialty is Defensive backfield. These kids will have another year in the weight room. I have no doubts that the defensive backfield next year will be a tightly gelled group that play B1G level defense

Not worried about this at all. I want Ash to bring as many of "his" recruits as possible. Did not want to wait until next year.

And, can I say, people really need to calm down! If you guys have a problem with the way this whole thing is going down, recruits, coaching Bowl games, young OC, etc.. Put the blame on where it belongs BARACHI. He was the one who waited until the end of the football year to get rid of both the AD, and the Head Football Coach! It should have been done as soon as it was clear that Flood circumvented the system, for his own priority. Ash, is just doing what any new coach would be doing in this circumstance. And, he is doing it better than most!
I like the hire, but how exactly is he doing better than most? He has not gotten any recruits to commit. The recruits we figured were going to decommit have, he hasn't kept any of those. He hired a special teams coach and an unknown OC who has 1 yr. experience as Co-OC at an FCS school. So who exactly are these most? Now I know he hasn't had time to recruit his own players yet but to say he's doing better than most is just not true.

A member of the staff visited Campbell at his home. Is that not more important than twitter?

People talk about "the spread" as if there is one version and players like Russo don't fit. That wasn't quite the case at OSU.

MEYER: in Oct:

“The read option is not a big part of our offense any more,” Meyer said on his call-in show in mid-September.

“When you hear spread option, it cracks me up when I hear that. We don’t run really an option very much at all and it’s more of a pro-style from a spread set. So it’s a much different offense than what it was years ago.”

When Meyer selected Cardale Jones as his starting quarterback, he elected to change his offense from a year ago.

“The quarterback run game obviously depends on who that quarterback is,” Meyer said on Monday.

“So you'd like to have that. The threat of that cleans up defenses for you. That's the extra component that you have in an offense.”

While the running quarterback works well in Meyer’s spread offense, the head coach had success using less-mobile signal callers as well.

“We've had Alex Smith, we didn't use him a ton, but he had some yards.” Meyer began to recount. “Josh Harris, we used him extensively. Giving you a little quick history – Josh Harris, Alex Smith, Chris Leak not much at all. Tim Tebow a lot. Braxton Miller a lot, and then Kenney Guiton not much. And J.T. a lot. And then Cardale not much at all.

Chris Leak, who ran Meyer’s 2006 national championship Florida team, only had 77 carries for 30 yards and three touchdowns in 2006."

Justin Morgan was on the Penn State campus for an unofficial visit on Saturday November 21 ... then he was on the Pitt campus doing an unofficial visit on Friday November 27th .... then did an official visit at Pitt on Friday December 11th
It is obvious that Morgan's "flip inertia" had already ramped up to full force in the waning days of Flood - he had already been investing time & energy & (in theory) his own money to build connections with Penn State and Pitt.

You realize we will be able to add a full 25 next year regardless right? Why not fill out the roster and if they aren't a fit they can transfer later. It doesn't impact the number of spots for next year at all.
and we will sign 25 this year as well. Maybe he wants to fill those spots with his kids, Texas kids, Ohio kids, Prep school kids, JUCO's or if he decides he wants these kids he get them to take an official visit in January.

It was reported by Campbell himself that Flood promised he'd take no other Safeties. I doubt Ash was willing to do the same.

Glad I'm on the premium board. What s ridiculous post

This thread is ridiculous. This happens all the time when staffs turnover. How do you know the new assistants are not going to bring some of their recruits from where they're coming. Don't you think Ash knows kids that were good players, but not good enough for Ohio State?

Go make yourself a nice cup of hot coco. Sit back, enjoy the warm soothing chocolate sliding down your throat. Listen to some inspirational songs from whatever artist you think is inspirational. Relax.
And, then try to remember what was sooooo important that you had to get the answer to that question. Ca mon man! It's called speculation, educated guess, he seems level headed, anxious, young, who has a sense of responsibility. And imagine how others would do, who don't have those qualities. Geeeezzz!

Hah I'm not trying to be a negative Nancy. I'm glad flood is gone and was impressed by Ash's press conf. But I expect him to be on top of the little details. If he wanted Campbell and whoever else, he could've done something as simple as adding them while he's on the *******. Not that difficult.

He made a personal visit to Campbell last week.

I don't want to be disparaging, but Morgan needs to lose a ton of weight and add muscle mass, he is a minimum 2 yr project and more than likely it will take at least 3 years before he ever sees the field. Plus we just turned over most of the staff, had a lousy season and people expect CA to immediately bring in a stable of new recruits as well as retain all the old ones in a week, let's revisit recruiting around signing day when the facts are a little more apparent. Frankly one of the biggest issues KF had was poor recruiting overall, this has to dramatically improve for us to move up in the league standings. so right know, there are probably a number of good 3 stars in this class, there are also areas of the class where there needs to be significant upgrades, and or changing priorities based on what coach Ash wants to run on both sides of the ball. Give it a rest and have a little patience.

If you think Ash has gotten his first HC job, nonetheless one from a Power 5 school, and he doesn't know at least something about every single committed recruit we have so far, I'm sorry but you're wrong. That would be something even for Flood. If you think the 2 kids we lost so far are because Ash is "dropping the ball", you're trying too hard.

Morgan = Jamal Wilson. How'd that work out for RU?

Not fun to read the boards with all the nattering nabobs of negativity ... but let's see what the rest of the staff looks like and who they bring to the class of '16 before we bury Ash, huh?

so you
The total is 85, you can't always do 25 a year.
The latest decommit that is generating so much angst is an O lineman, a position where the overwhelming majority of recruits don't even contribute as true freshman. What is the compelling need to take an OL you don't want as a "body" instead of waiting to get one you do want?
so that you have ample time to red shirt them
you needed next year for most of these kids

and he could not wait to switch back to JT.

No not really. In fact a lot of people criticize Meyer for being too slow. A lot of OUS's issues weren't simply about QB about WR and coaches. Their best WRs kept getting hurt and knocked out . They struggled to replace the lightening in a bottle they had with Devin Smith (Jets). Staff struggled to after losing coach to Houston

I love how when a guy decommits he suddenly is fat slow and sucks.
