Does Ash know what he's doing?

i already know I'm going to get killed on here for this...
But we just lost another commit to Pitt - Justin Morgan.

Ash isn't even following our entire committed class on Twitter, much less uncommitted prospects, yet and he's a week in. What is he waiting for? The kids expect dialog with the new coach and it's been over a week. Maybe he's not a Twitter guy but the kids are.

You know early on he said he would honor any commits on the list. What he didn't say was whether or not he wanted them. He is on twitter I believe and his OC is supposedly also on twitter, not that it means much to me but I guess social networking is big with kids.
So now it's the dead period and what we don't know is this; does Ash have players on his list that didn't commit (or get an offer) from OSU that he thinks help this class?
None of us know exactly what type players he's looking for so it's hard to answer your question. Unless Ash wants to answer it himself. But I think it is a valid question.

with the exception of Campbell this board was pissed after we accepted commits from all the guys who are now decommited. Now everyone is upset about it? Ever think they are having active dialogue with the guys they want? I mean they found time to visit kids who weren't committed so what does that tell you?

It's probably safe to say that Ash is likely to not have a lot of interest in many of Flood's recruits because

1. he intends to run a different offense
2. Ash is a defense guy and Flood was not and Ash probably has a much better idea of the kind of players he wants on defense; when it comes to having an eye for defensive talent I'm gonna have to say Ash is probably a lot better to say the least

Pretty much this.

Ash is coming in with an entirely new system to implement, on both sides of the ball. There's zero expectation that the verbals will all stick and zero expectation that they're all on his board.

I get they may not be ideal for ash but we're also 6 weeks from signing day? Need bodies who are appearantly good enough for Pitt.

He also just started following Phil Campbell after he decommited so he probably wants him but just hasn't put in the effort yet. That is kind of unacceptable for being a week in.

Dude - do you worry about gravity every day too. Like do you wake up and start moaning that the gravity is so strong it's keeping you from standing up ? If you are worried that HCCA is not already working his *** off you must literally search for things to worry about.

Campbell isn't much of a worry, although I'd love him here, and Russo hasn't made a decision BUT might not be the right guy for this O, anyway, so while it would be a hit to the class is it really going to make a difference in the long run?

Not worried about this at all. I want Ash to bring as many of "his" recruits as possible. Did not want to wait until next year.

And, can I say, people really need to calm down! If you guys have a problem with the way this whole thing is going down, recruits, coaching Bowl games, young OC, etc.. Put the blame on where it belongs BARACHI. He was the one who waited until the end of the football year to get rid of both the AD, and the Head Football Coach! It should have been done as soon as it was clear that Flood circumvented the system, for his own priority. Ash, is just doing what any new coach would be doing in this circumstance. And, he is doing it better than most!

Hah I'm not trying to be a negative Nancy. I'm glad flood is gone and was impressed by Ash's press conf. But I expect him to be on top of the little details. If he wanted Campbell and whoever else, he could've done something as simple as adding them while he's on the *******. Not that difficult.

You realize we will be able to add a full 25 next year regardless right? Why not fill out the roster and if they aren't a fit they can transfer later. It doesn't impact the number of spots for next year at all.

Why is it that no other school lost recruits like Rutgers with VT, Miami, Missouri, Virginia, Cuse, South Carolina, Minn, Illinois, USC and UCF changing HC?

I believe Flood took anyone even recruits who were still really undecided. Again, never saw schools lose the number of recruits we did in 2013 and we didn't even lose our coach at that time and now again more recruits lost than any other school.

Ash and his OC and DC will each have 2-3 recruits in their mind from their other schools that they will bring in which translates to 6-9 new recruits.

Hmmm, it seems like we have an awful lot of experts on how to properly recruit on this site...If Ash really, really, really wants a commit I suspect he will make that VERY clear to them in whatever way he deems necessary. If he doesn't he won't be a HC for long and a few minor changes to his style isn't going to change that.

As has been stated, while Ash said he would honor the commits RU already had, that doesn't mean he automatically feels they're right for his system, and some of the commits themselves might not feel they're right for Ash's system.

Morgan is rated as a 2* prospect, so he could be an "under the radar diamond in the ruff", or he might simply be a project that would never really fit into the new RU offensive scheme at all. -Either way, though, when there's a change in coaching regime there'll always be kids who decide to go elsewhere. That's just the way things are.

I think it is being highly generous to the incoming staff to assume that these flips are the result of Ash not wanting these kids for his different system. I am not saying it isn't true, but only that without more knowledge, it is a generous assumption to make.

It is late in the game, and we need bodies to fill the spots. If Ash plans to replace these kids with other kids, conventional wisdom would be to start overrecruiting, and then let kids you dont want know to look elsewhere. But it seems clear enough to me that these kids are being actively targeted by schools trying to fill out their own classes, and they are leaving because they don't know what is going on.

I know the Op loves Flood's eye for talent, I mean just look at this past season, that was mostly his players.

Anyway, As soon as Flood was fired these two was looking to bail (if you follow twitter at all, you knew this was coming weeks ago). At least at Pitt they will have a better chance to start.

The total is 85, you can't always do 25 a year.
The latest decommit that is generating so much angst is an O lineman, a position where the overwhelming majority of recruits don't even contribute as true freshman. What is the compelling need to take an OL you don't want as a "body" instead of waiting to get one you do want?
