I hope everyone remembers we went 5 and 7 in 09, 7 and 6 in 2011 and 2013 and 6 and 7 in 2016.

Yea. Two wrongs don’t make a right. When we actually get a good coach, pretty sure we will know it.

And on the flip side, I will admit that if he wins this weekend the bashing should stop as well. This is the biggest game of his coaching career by a lot.
Isn’t it amazing that the game that used to be an automatic win under the coach you so desperately wanted to fire is now the biggest game of the year?

Dude. If we win the game on a blocked punt safety out of the end zone or we are up by 6 with 15 seconds to go punting from our end zone and the punter walks out the back of the end zone to give them a safety but preserve the lead so that we can punt it away from our 20, that will be the biggest win of the Joe Moorhead era! And I’ll take it, moan a little bit on here and be happy to be 3-1 with 8 to play!

No sarcastericks needed!

I’m an optimist. I’m happier that way. I get frustrated but I hold out hope until it’s time to not hold out hope.
With that being said, if Isee the same effort by several players, a lack of awareness in the coaching staff and an overall lack of pride in putting on maroon and white I’m heading to the door with many of y’all. These coaches make a great living, the players get to live a dream so many can only dream of and I will not find myself supporting a situation that we saw play out in Lexington last year.
With that said I look for us to right the ship and move forward but I am frustrated with the after play activities when we don’t play with the same effort during a play

And not to disrespect you at all, but is there really that much pride that goes into “putting on the maroon and white”? If we are talking about historically i say no.

I guess I phrased that wrong. These guys are living a dream playing a sport others wish they could. They are 18-21 yr olds. We played all Many sports in

Meh, I thought that Freshman QB at Auburn (son of Patrick Nix) would be a weak link and struggle more than he has...that game winning drive against Oregon gave him a lot of confidence.

I thought UK would take a step back without their star RB and their Sack - a - QB - machine at DE (both graduated).

And I thought we would be a better team than Tennessee.

So those were my hopes for 3 wins (before the season) during this upcoming stretch.

I feel our best days are ahead of us. It’s gonna take someone making a hire that is more outside the box than joe Moorhead. I’m thing we should have hired mike leach. But i could be wrong.

Moorhead was pretty outside the box considering that everyone was initially worried about hiring someone with SEC ties.

Leach went 3-9, 6-7, and 3-9 his first three years at Washington State. Our fan base would lose their minds if it took that long to get things rolling.

Amazing how things change. A couple years ago, our fans would say, Meh.... at a minor bowl game. Now some of the same people are trying to figure how we get to a “lowly” bowl game with this coach and this team.

I, for one, live the bowl games for non-traditional football programs like ours.

If you are a fan of a program like Mississippi State, you better learn to love “ bowl games”. There are not going to be many shots at NY 6 or Playoff games unless they expand the playoffs to 32 teams.

You just explained what it means to be ok with mediocrity. So basically, scheduling is the most important thing right? Instead of being a good team just schedule enough cupcakes each year to be in a bowl and that’s enough? I apologize but some of us younger fans want more than that. It’s not that hard to have a budget like we have and hire someone who can beat Kansas state every year. But we just can’t seem to figure it out can we. Everyone but us can. But we can’t. But it’s ok with you. Because all we have to do is win four more cupcake games and we are in the Birmingham bowl. Well let me tell ya, that does nothing for me. I don’t expect to win a natty but I wouldn’t mind beating someone we aren’t supposed to or maybe making a run for the west. This year should be a great gauge for you as to where we are. Based on the schedule, there is no reason we shouldn’t make a bowl this year. And if we don’t, then we are just ******.

And the reason that we won’t ever be **** is because the folks that think like you are the big money boys. The ones that buy up all the season tickets and make our athletic department feel like they are legitimate. As long as we win 6 games we are making you guys proud. I agree with you. Bowls are nice. But have you really given up on doing better than that. I’m a bit shocked that our fan base doesn’t think we’d be better off without you. It’s not hard at all to go to a bowl every year. Let’s see how hard you and your coach make it this year.

And if we don’t, you will become a Bama fan???

There was a time when programs like Mississippi State were supposed to “know their place”, or in today’s speak , “stay in your lane bro.” We were supposed to go 3-8, 3-9, always lose to UT, UF, LSU, UGA, Bama, AU, and even Mississippi.

We have risen above that now. We were the First ever #1 in the D1 FP era.

Along with that came 9 straight bowl appearances, almost the same MSU had appeared in history.

But you need to find a new team if you think a school located in a State with less than 3 million people, along with 2 other D1 programs, 3 FCS programs, 2 DII schools, 5 DIII or NAIA programs, and 13 Junior College schools of which 3 to 4 compete for National Championships every year, because Talented kids from our State High Schools struggle to spell any words over 6 letters have to attend instead of qualifying for State, USM or Mississippi, then I can’t help you.

Our lane has improved, but in the SEC improved for a Mississippi school is ranked 7 to 9 in the conference not 3 to 5. If you can accept that, enjoy the experience, and wear your Maroon and White proudly, then life will be more enjoyable. If you cannot, pick another team, because if you stay with State, you will see more “mediocrity” than 2014 success. Live it, love it, or move on.

I’m an older fan so do tell how you solve this dilemma of being a 15-30 type team on average over the last 10 years. See your problem like others are that you expect because you became a fan you deserve something. Son we ain’t Alabama, Georgia LSU etc. we compete in a tough conference with at best the 9- 10 best roster. We have to fight for what we get. Nothing is ever given, in fact it’s usually taken. I believe in what we have but shitting on a coach because it doesn’t fit your timeline is ridiculous.
Been a fan a long time have endured Tech and 10, yeah you have no clue. I have bought every magazine and dreamed us to a SEC championship. Guess what it hasn’t happened so forgive me if I rail on a youngster upset because it doesn’t happen fast enough. Guess what !! It may never happen because the rules aren’t set for us and even if they were equal 130 teams play the same sport.
Just my thoughts because I’m sick of people shitting on this program like we are any more different than 120 othe D1 teams.
Flame away! I’ll still cheer with each and everyone of y’all!!

For me, it wouldn't be so much if they loose, but how they loose. Last year's Kentucky, Florida, and last week's game all had the feeling that we should have won but we were unprepared and undisciplined. That's what irrates me so far about Joe's teams.

I posted a nicer response you obviously haven’t read. First off no matter what you say about our big boys remember they wouldn’t be **** at the elite schools. Are you that naive? We are at the big fire trying to put it out with our volunteer fire trucks while the big boys bring paid firefighters with 3 times more trucks and helicopters. Son we are a trickle compared to the big boys

A loss wouldn’t change my opinion but my opinion is that he’s not the right guy for the job. I like him a lot, I want him to win but I just don’t see him making progress as a coach. I don’t like the direction of the program, especially in regards to toughness, conditioning and guys developing. He seems to be an upgrade in recruiting.

My biggest issue is that he seems unable to game plan and develop a strategy to win based on the talent on his roster. I don’t think it’s a sign of a very good coach to need a QB like trace mcsorley (spelling is probably bad off) and a running back like Barkley to have a competent offense. Joe inherited a good offense, admittedly not great but good enough for the defense. We scored 16 total points in the Kentucky, Florida, LSU and Bama games last year. That’s putrid. That was generally the same offense that dominated LSU the year before and had Bama on the ropes. A good coach finds a way to win with the talent at hand.

Thus far, the offense looks the same to me. I expect Saturday to be a big punch in the gut with our offense. I expect it to be similar to the Kentucky game last year.

Similar to what Klineman is doing for K State. Taking the talent he has coaching them to be better and getting the best he can out of them. You can see how much he is improving his team. With Jo it’s just excuses and he was handed a much higher talent profile.

I actually think there are only a few people calling for Joe to fired, and I would imagine they’ve never had to actually hire and fire people in real life:

Here’s how I see our chances when hiring a new coach (5 year average record):

Chance he’ll average 10-2 (2%)
Chance he’ll average 9-3 (5%)
Chance he’ll average 8-4 (30%)
Chance he’ll average 7-5 (60%)
Chance he’ll average 6-6 (80%)
Chance he’ll average 5-7 (40%)
Chance he’ll average 4-8 (20%)
Chance he’ll average 3-7 (15%)
Chance he’ll average 2-10 (5%)

Point is, if we fire Joe we’re STILL most likely going to end up with a coach that goes 5-7, 6-6, or 7-5 ON AVERAGE.

8-4 means winning 4 non-cons, which isn’t as easy now that a P-5 is required, plus beating Kentucky, an East opponent, Ole Miss, and Arkansas every year.

9-3 means adding a win over TAMU or Auburn.

10-2 means beating both TAMU and Auburn OR beating LSU.

Maybe there’s a pile of coaches out there that can do that but we sure have had a hard time finding them, and the ones that did had to be here a while before figuring it out.

The coach where this game used to be an automatic win just squeaked by Kentucky last weekend with a roster loaded with more 4 & 5 star guys than he ever had at state.

Just throwing that out there.

I think that’s fair. Following the UK debacle last year, I really didn’t expect to beat Auburn or A&M, but Joe has the team prepared for those games.

At this point in time, my biggest issue is that I’m not at all sold on the idea that KSU is some rock solid Big12 team, and as bad as we looked last weekend, it’s really hard for me to find 7 wins this season. That said, if we come out fundamentally sound on Saturday and we take care of the cats, 7-8 wins will still be on the table

Ha, no I meant there’s probably 2% of all coaches out there that could average 10-2 seasons at State. Maybe Dabo and Saban, and that’s if every card fell right for them.

80% is probably too high for 6 and 6, but I’d bet 6 to 8 out of every 10 candidates we’d consider would have the ability to average a 6-6 season here, with our facilities, schedule, nearby talent, etc.

Similarly I believe only a handful of coaches that would be in our consideration would prove to be so inept that they couldn’t beat at least three of our four non-con opponents every year, given what we have to work with.

Like I mentioned in an earlier post, in our last 60 years of football we’ve had five seasons where we didn’t lose at least 4 games. Five.

So anyone who EVER predicts anything better than 8-4 is saying that that year’s team has the coaching, experience, roster depth, QB and skill position talent, and a favorable enough schedule that should produce one of the top 5 seasons in our history.

Personally I’m not 100% sold on JoMo either, but to set the bar so high for the guy is just not reasonable.

Agreed. I mentioned after the ULL game that my perception regarding this team’s ceiling had changed, and I’ll stand by my comment that 8 wins is absolute best case scenario.

With that in mind, the strategy needs to shift towards making sure we at least get 6 and a bowl game. Anything less than that can not possibly be viewed as anything short of a disaster

You're right it's so easy, everyone in our conference is doing it - Arkansas, Ole Miss, Tennessee, all of which have larger budgets and more to significantly more football history and success than MSU. UK has just recently elevated to that point you're wailing about above (at least it appears), but it took until Stoops 6th season to get there.

Disclaimer: I'm neither pro or anti Joe at the moment. And I am NOT advocating giving Joe 6 years like UK did with Stoops. Stupid statements like the one above however clearly demonstrate that you're being ruled by emotions and not logic.

And there will be times we will not beat Kentucky, Ole Miss, and Arkansas, because they will be better. We need consistency. Having a bunch of really good players for 1 to 2 seasons, going, 8-4, then 10-2 with them, then having to start again, with 5-7, 6-6, 8-4, 10-2, is just not sustainable because you will lose supporters during those 5-7 to 7-5 teams. Give me 8-4 and 9-3 consistently, where we may lose to a UK, UArk, or an Ole Miss, but also best an Auburn, A&M, USCe, UT, or Vandy, and the rare win over LSU and/or Georgia, and the extremely rare win over Bama.
