Does 40-0 = Calipari to NBA?

Yes, the rumors are strong at this time of year every time but this year could be different.

I mean after a 40-0 season and a second NC, what is left in college hoops to prove? There will not be anything above it to prove. He might get into the Hall of Fame as well to seal the deal.

The only unfinished business would then be the NBA for him.

The highly plausible scenario above makes me cringe while rooting for a 40-0 season.

I am sure there are plenty of good coaching candidates out there but I am not sure if we will ever have one that actually gets it....the fans, the expectations, the media hate and still manages to come out smiling and on his own terms.

It's not just highly plausible -- it's in his friggin contract for crying out loud. If Cal goes 40-0 then not only is he required to go to the NBA, but UK still has to fulfill the remaining years on his contract.

Thanks Mitch.

Go out and get 3 more championships to pull ahead of UK and surpass all active coaches with national championships. Oh yeah and make a boat load of money doing that.

Well done with that original response. Ironically, it also explains where the real "clutter" is in this case...

No, 40-0 = 40 more wins than we started with, and 0 losses added to the L column. Any more dumb questions?

Why not go for 80-0?

40-0 would be going out on top, that's why I say it's possible.

Plus Gregg Marshall is listening to offers.

If someone told you Cal would go 40-0, then coach the Cavs, and Marshall would take over, the majority of people in Lexington would be happy and understand. The only people sad would be in Kansas.

A "la la la don't wanna talk about it" response was not what I shooting for.

Instead, I was hoping to hear from some of the resident experts about how no sweet NBA openings were available (like Cleveland before) or why Cal would fail there, again, or some insider information that shed light on his future plans.

I think its probable if the cats win it all that cal leaves for the nba,the ncaa has always been after him,and the man gets no respect out of Kentucky and a few smart basketball minds.if it happens we respect his decision and go after sean miller.

Honestly could we really be upset with him? I would be fine with whatever decision he made. Its his life after-all.

Let him go and after he fails, maybe he can come back to one of our rivals and then we can talk trash about him!!!

I think the only real question is how many of our guys will Cal be allowed to draft this year? I'll be he's working a deal to get more than 2 draft picks. Maybe he has some trade deals worked out to aquire some of our Cats.

I'm honestly surprised that no one on this board thought this was plausible until now...

I've been thinking about this for the past month...

More like you've been hoping for it! Go back to your own board and worry about your team!

I've been on this board for 15 years...I just don't find a reason to post very often.

Take it for what you will.

I've got a great idea, let's start another post as dumb as this one. That should keep some busy for a while.

What inspired me to post is the surprising amount of fellow wildcat fans that refuse to believe there is any chance Cal goes to the NBA after completing a perfect season here.

To think there is zero chance this happens is just setting yourself up for a potential huge letdown, we all remember Pitino in 97 and how painful that was...I vowed to never let myself believe a coach will stay here until he retires after that.

Just don't bury your head in the sand. That's all I'm saying.

I wonder if UCLA had to put up with "Wooden to the NBA" rumors every year. Hell, Wooden had four undefeated seasons and won 10 national championships in 12 years. He must have been bored to death the last few seasons before he retired.

Here's the definitive answer Bluecard, er cat:

40-0=40 wins vs no defeats.

Well Coach K might as well jump to the NBA or retire then, I mean what else does he have to prove?

Why would he need something to "prove" to want to stay in this job? This makes no sense.
