Regardless if you want Cal gone or not he’s not leaving anytime soon. Those who want him gone just have to get over it. They will never fire Cal (sans multiple seasons in a row of 10+ loses).

edit to say-> I’ve moved way past constantly being a pumper. There ARE flaws with Cal and the system as a whole but even with those flaws we have a top 3/5 coach at WORST... who has given us one if not the best 10 year run in our history so... who else are we going to get?

I’ve made my views on Cal known over the past couple of years, predicting how things would play out. And unfortunately they are playing out as I feared. So rehashing it does no good. I’m just taking one game at a time and hoping for a win tomorrow.

But ultimately UK will be in a weird spot over the next 3-4 years, IMHO, with a coach who has accomplished a lot and you can’t reasonably move on from, but also a coach who I believe for a variety of reasons isn’t going to compete for national titles.

I'm ready for him to move on. To me it's because the personal connection to the team is gone. Regardless of how successful he may be, if you don't feel a part of it, is it really success?

First time I've seen it expressed that way. Nice post.

However, I don't want him gone, just changed back to how he used to be. Not sure he wants to do that.

These are all valid as well. Be willing to play zone at times if personnel dictates. .
No program seriously determined to compete for a championship does not prepare to operate against zones. And how must you do that? By teaching zones adequate for practicing against. And if you teach zones then you play them at least some. If you play no zones that is a clear indication that you are not practicing against them. A major concern. Game day is not the time to learn how to break down a zone defense.

the way you run people down , you're a hypocrite for being offended by the word retarded. maybe you should rethink how you interact with people if offending people is even remotely something you care about.

what if he's here another 15 years and we dont win another title ?
Huh. Cal has been here for 15 years? And no title?

That’s fair. I don’t feel connected at all anymore but I think that’s more due to the professionalization and glamorization of college basketball as a whole.

The last thing Cal will ever do is throw players under the bus to the media. So at times his answers are COMPLETELY BS, but he'd rather do that, knowing that we all know he's giving us a BS answer, than publicly blame things on the players.

He does throw players under the bus. How do you think the Harrison Brothers felt after reading Cal's comments? He touted his loyality while throwing his players under the bus for losing that game.

It would be difficult to reason wanting Cal gone without also wanting conditions, or at least some of them, which existed prior to his time at UK. Maybe that is just simplifying the question. Undoubtedly things are much better and that should be good enough. Fact is, however, this is one of those programs that the only thing that is good enough is winning at a high-high level. For some reason, external sources (media, ESPN for example) seem to be moral in dictating to the UK program what good enough is yet they do not do that to other programs, including other State University programs in states which are not exactly a great deal culturally separate or improved from Kentucky. We make no apology for our ambitions.

John Calipari is certainly a good coach for the UK program. But his tenure is at a crossroads with the fanbase. A fanbase that is ready for much more results in post season tournaments than on NBA draft night. By most of our estimations, if the sole emphasis is placed on the former the best quality result will occur for the latter.

I would like to see Cal adapt to the realities of one and done college basketball as it has evolved. Particularly, I wish he would realize that some players need to be recruited over.

Some players live up to expectations,...some don't. One and done was implemented so that the NBA could allow colleges to separate the wheat from the chaff.

The college programs that succeed will have to recognize that some players won't fill their roll well enough to lead to championships regardless of how highly regarded they were coming out of high school.

Those players need to be recruited over.

Cal needs to get some fresh blood on his bench. Other programs aren't beating down the door to hire Barbee and Justice. They are both young guys who should be rising stars. They aren't and that should tell Cal something.

Our offense is off the rails. Meaning, we have a few sets that we run and that's about it. No plays designed to get specific players open. Only "action" that supposedly allows our superior athletes to beat their defender. It ain't working. Time to transform your approach Cal. Gotta score to win.

Get the roster under control. We have fantastic athletes or, so we are told. That's not the same as having great basketball players. We need alpha ballers with no conscience. Just because a prospect has a bunch of stars by his name does not mean he will transition to college well.
Talent assessment sucks. Get Orlando Antigua back on the bench to help weed thru the posers and get some real players back in the program.

Stop the "we're young" excuses. We may be young, we basically are every year. But, Utah, a team much "younger" than UK just beat us so...

No, but Cal isn't above criticism. Some people are more of a Cal fan than UK. He is an exceptional marketer of the program and can recruit, however, his in game coaching leaves much to be desired.
Even if you hate to play any defense besides man, you can at least show a different look at the opponent just to slow momentum.

Kinda proves a point that he is more loyal to the players (getting them drafted) than he is to winning games/championships.
I am fine with being loyal to the players, but not to the detriment of the program.

EFF No! To say otherwise, is not thinking it through! Even if anyone could, they won’t!
Even after coaching, Cal will be a brand ambassador, GM type that will still be extremely valuable for the program for years to come. Someday, Cal will have a building/ court etc. named after him, and be in the rafters. And rightfully so!

So here is the poll...
Before the season I posted something like this (not a poll, just a general question). not one poster said they wanted him gone.
Everyone that posted in response said that nobody wants him gone, it’s just criticism.
11 games into season a thread is started saying he should move on and that post has about 30 likes.
So, what gives?
Finally a poster has the balls to say it, and suddenly there are many who want him gone.
Most fans know Cal is signed to a long term contract that makes this entire thread irrelevant by itself. Besides that, Cal is a Hall of Fame coach whose performance at UK has been stellar. The results of this ridiculous poll show that most people aren’t buying this snake oil.

Why are you posting such a stupid thread. There is not a better coach than Cal! Go away Troll!

No one in there right mind would want him gone. He needs to look in the mirror and tweak himself, Staff and the Players. They had better win tomorrow in RUPP.

But the thing is, as much as I love and feel so much gratitude for the twins, they DID lose that game for us. To an extent.

I dunno, Frank. When recalling the late minutes, the shot clock issues, the Twins were certainly most noticeable on the floor. Can't recall anything in those moments that looked genuinely strategic, well drawn up. No photographic memory, but I'm good with being required to create one's own shot as a major issue in those moments. No on ball screens. Whether anyone was coming off a baseline screen? Don't remember it that well.

I do remember being in the hole quite a bit earlier in the 2nd half, and not for any reasons that wasn't typical of what Wisconsin's offense was known for going into the tourney. WCS had an awful game. Tripping over his own feet dribbling the baseline behind the basket. Painful recollection. Outplayed and out coached.

I don't want Cal gone, but I really wish he was a better Xs and Os coach with some sort of actual offense. He also completely lacks the ability to make in-game adjustments. We've watched some really ugly ball this year...mostly with one player dribbling around out of control while 4 teammates stand around watching. He is consistently out coached and his excuses for these awful losses are played out. I will never be able to forget the 2015 Wisconsin game...all he had to do was make some minor adjustments, like putting the twins on the bench. Regardless, I want him here until he's ready to retire because we aren't going to find a better recruiter. I also believe he needs to abandon the notion that getting players to the NBA is UK's top priority. National Championships should be priority number 1, hands down, PERIOD. So many of these kids leave before they are ready for the NBA and in IMO that is doing the kids a disservice. I get the idea that kids could get hurt and should take the money and run, but we've had so many players that needed another year and could have made a lot more money by staying and improving upon their weaknesses and thus boosting their draft stock and total contract value.

I don't think anyone wants Coach Cal gone. Take a look at the offense and make a couple of changes. This year's lineup needs a couple of changes too to go along with changes in the offense.

Adapt to what? I mean to be fair he was named coach of the decade and zero other coaches have as many wins or tournament wins as he does.
Genuinely curious.
Adapt to the modern game. Denny Crum was arguably the coach of the 80's but when the 3 point line was introduced, he failed to adapt to the game and had a mediocre end to his career.
