What’s your point? Every college coach has the same players to choose from and most aren’t prepared for the jump to college ball. That’s where coaching comes into play. It’s the coaches’ job to get them prepared, to improve their skills, to get them into shape, etc. in this respect Cal is in exactly the same position as every other coach in the country. Actually he has a huge advantage because he can get players that most other schools can’t get. As such, he SHOULD be ahead of schedule when compared to other coaches. He used to take advantage of that, but he hasn’t in several years. Again, the numbers prove it.

You’re completely missing the point. The contract is what it is, but you always bring it up when a poster criticizes Cal for something. The fact that he has the contract doesn’t negate his poor performance and shouldn’t shield him from criticism. No one has said he‘s not going to get paid huge sums of money. He is because of the contract. That’s not debatable. Whether his performance matches up to what he’s being paid is another argument entirely. And yes, he’s going to get paid if he doesn’t win a single game, but again that’s not the point. Based on your posting history, you seem to think the fact that he’s under contract is all that matters and that his failures do not matter. They sure as hell matter to true fans.

Because we play exclusively man to man, teams have figured out how to exploit our weak spots by switching til they get the matchup they want. Then they capitalize in most instances. We don’t have 100% locked in man to man defense. Somebody is always going under a screen allowing a wide open look from 3, or they get caught in the middle of the screen because the other defender didn’t switch allowing a driving lane. Many times the screener is rolling off and getting a good look because his guy didn’t adjust quick enough.

Bottom line is great man to man defense is doable, but it’s hard and it takes a special group to do it effectively enough to not allow exploitation of certain players.

It’s the whole reason we should zone more and pressure more since we have the players to do so. Hell, he couldn’t teach those either though, so never mind.
