Do you check the page before posting?

Just curious if people do or even care to.

If I see something of importance somewhere, I’ll glance at the page and 99 times out of 100, it’s posted.

So curious as to why more don’t. Are they thinking they’re breaking news?

I’m not against anyone posting anything, but it would seem as if you’d just look before you did just to keep the board from cluttering with the same topic.

Sorry, bored. Walking our dog at Seneca park and killing time while she sniffs

I check but sometimes I miss other posts. And sometimes, I post at the same time as some other person.

As long as the news gets out there, multiple posts don’t bother me.

I don’t even look because the board is too fast and active. Once I see the headline, I just come here to get people’s insight or thoughts....or lack of both. I guess if you can write a better headline maybe yours is the one that takes off, but what’s the point or reward?

I scroll the entire first page before posting anything new. If it’s newsworthy, and the news broke more than 5 minutes earlier, it’s already been posted 100% of the time.

I look for threads from our random trolls first as they provide the most entertainment. Unless something big is going on then I go to that thread

The ones that get posted a million times when something breaks is probably bc they checked and didn't see it and by the time the made the thread and added the link etc, 4 other ppl also did the same thing

This has happened to me several times. It's the only time I ever post something that is already on the board.

I ALWAYS look to see if the topic I'm posting already has a thread. Never understand why some don't or won't.

I posted earlier about checking the board before posting. Seriously though, I'm in complete agreement with OP. I wish we did a better job of reducing the redundant threads. When there's 10 posts chasing 1 topic, it's hard to know which one to post in.

I check the main page each time before posting. No reason for a repeat, but I have still had it happen. Mainly I have posted something and seen the same topic posted 15-20mins later. Kind of annoying, but just like with post, I feel lie people don't always read the OP, just the last couple post. It's why you see threads derail so much. I had one this week that people were arguing and it wasn't even about anything I had started the thread about. It went about 10 different directions, but I thought it was pretty straight forward LOL.

I picture a weird dude looking at his phone and getting an update, then moving as fast as he can to post it here. If it ends up a duplicate, then just ask the mods to delete it.

Rinse, repeat.

Wants to be important.

It’s mainly just noobs wanting to be relevant in conversation. I was that guy about 10 years ago when I first started, not realizing proper message board etiquette. I try so hard to refrain from jumping their **** because of it

Some posters live for starting threads, they’ll start their own thread when they know another one of the same topic is already active in the hopes that theirs will overtake the first one. I rarely start a thread but I could easily double because I have so many of these dumb touchs on ignore.

It’s time for a new avatar I believe
Where have you been?! You really must not pay attention. Mods were all over me over the last one I had up. In fact, they banned it. There was a few threads in which this was being discussed. They deleted said threads also. I'll eventually put a different one up. You'll notice it when I do, if you're paying attention that is. :)

Agree with OP, people need to at least read the first page before posting "breaking news". I get a laugh when their "new" post is right above the same thread from 30 minutes ago

I usually scan the first page before I try to post any breaking news. Sometimes you get it on here first and other times while you are checking that first page, someone posts and you don't see it. You don't reload the page and it becomes a duplicate because they are typing while you are scanning.

I think it is just human nature to want to be the first one to get info out to a bunch of people. You get to feel like a reporter with a breaking news story that wants to be first in getting it out there to the masses. It is especially interesting when you might have a rare source that gives you info and you get it out there even before the experts can. Of course if you don't say who your source is, most won't believe you anyways on here.

I never post something as news. I do come here first for news. Sounds crazy but this is a great clearing house for all things U.K. Related. Things show up immediately and you get a cross section of opinions about the development within minutes. Kind of like twitter for old people, of which I am one.
