We were 1-8 at Maryland since they joined the conference at Maryland. I’d say this was a pretty big win no matter how ****** we played the last few minutes. It’s been a house of horrors for us.
Our gauntlet started two games ago. We beat a really good MSU team, and for all their injuries, Maryland is really good as well. So far we are 2-0, and I'm thrilled where we sit.
I would be crazy happy with a 4 seed or better, and two home games in the tourney.

Going on the road and beating a top-15 Maryland team is impressive.

True but they start 3 seniors who all played in a national championship game. They should be mentally ready but they still panic. If they can just stop panicking and atttack the press they could be really good. I wish they had more ball movement sooner or later teams are just going to sag two down low and clog every thing up. And dare us to hit that from the elbow. Once they do that we have no back door passing lanes and the o goes stale. I also like journey instead of Layla go small and run. After all the 3 seniors played in a fast pace game when they were at their best. Sorry for the rant I stayed at a holiday in tonight.
Maryland lost the game before this by 30 at UCLA. Something not right with them at this point
Iowa may well lose by 30 at UCLA too. Though I expect a close game.

Need to cut that number in at least half if you want to contend against the top 4 teams in the country, imo. Points given up off of Iowa turnovers are killers.

With that said, Iowa does turn it over too much. The players turning it over at the highest rate this year are all freshmen and sophomores. They will improve on that aspect of their game as experience is the greatest teacher of all.
I honestly think we will only lose 1 game at home this season and that loss is Michigan. We will probably lose at UCLA but I don't see any other losses on our schedule (we will probably lose 1-2 games we should win though.) That would be a massive success for this season and Iowa will be competing for a natty in the next two seasons more than likely.
I think we beat Michigan especially since it’s at home, but with Chit Chat, Heiden, Deal, and Woliczko we will be competing at a high level for a pretty long time. I’m excited for how we do two seasons from now especially.
If Jensen can keep this team together I totally agree and that's without any additional incoming transfers which is always a possibility. Where would this team be today without Jensen acquiring CCW in the portal this year? She's been the perfect addition to what was already a solid nucleus.
If they go small and put Addie in the high post, they will have more options and teams will not be able to sag off.
Its not like there aren't optons. Ava can hit that shot consistently. There were several instances last night where she was left open and wouldn't pull the trigger. It's basically a free throw and Ava is shooting 75% in conference play. Same for Journey. She can hit that as well. It's only Hannah that has really struggled away from the basket with few exceptions.

41 points came off of 26 IOWA turnovers
If Iowa cuts the turnovers in half, they'd have 13 more possessions.
--> IOWA shot 49% overall, so 13 more possessions x 2 points (being conservative) x 49% shooting = 13 points added to the Iowa ledger.
--> The 41 UConn points off Iowa turnovers would be cut dramatically, too.
--> So, that 26 point loss suddenly becomes a very close game.
Not if you give up 41 points on 26 TOs. But I'd be interested in seeing Iowa play UConn again late in March.

As I noted above, 13 more possessions gives IOWA 13 more points. 13 fewer IOWA turnovers cuts into the 41 pts UConn scored off of IOWA's poor ball handling. That 26 point deficit vanishes if Iowa takes care of the ball..I am looking forward to seeing how we do vs #3 ranked UCLA on Feb 1. And who knows, we might see #1 UConn again. Take care of the ball and we might see something pretty amazing next time we play.
It’s not that easy to just say take care of the ball and don’t turn it over. It’s one thing to play even a solid Big Ten team but when you play UConn you’re obviously pressing to make a play against them. It’s not like they were unforced and next time we wouldn’t do it again. I believe a valuable stat would be points off live ball turnovers. They are killers and pretty impossible to defend in most cases.
