Iowa has at lest guaranteed losses against Purdue twice and Michigan, that gives Iowa 7 losses with still a cushion for an additional 3 losses to still make the field of 64. Plenty of time to build a resume to get er done, not time to panic yet.
All true, And YET the women won, again, and in the end thats what matters. And Indiana at home is a tougher out then their record would indicate, especially with the rivalry thats been built the last 4 or 5 years between Iowa and Indiana in the womens game.So we have two bad games in a row. We are ranked (albeit not next week) and play in one of, if not the toughest conferences in the nation.
This stuff will happen while we, and coach, adjusts to the league. You can't give up on these guys. Maybe instead of tearing them down we could just be supportive.
This team is still on pace to make the tournament. It's not like the women down 16 to an 0-5 team on the road.
I called it after the Minny loss and still stand by it…we needed to bounce back at home vs Illi or the season was going to go off the rails.
Sorry to say I see a 7-13 finish. No dancing.
Hope I'm wrong and you can all call me out on it in 30 days, if not sooner.
Doug Altenverger didva pretty good analysis. Essentially this team can overachieve but they have to play perfect and the other too bad. Iowa lacks Bigblengthband strength.Play these last two games with no Hawkeyes sick or recovering from the flu and I bet they go at least 1-1 if not 2-0.
Are they still undermanned physically and talent-wise vs the top of the B1G, even fully healthy? Hell yes. But even sick and being cold as hell on the offensive end in both the last games, both games were right there for grabbing control of near the end and winning.
Let's see what they look like when the illness bug passes through and they get back into 'fighting shape'.
And healthy or sick or whatever, they aren't winning @ Purdue next. So not really fair to keep piling on that this team & coach aren't 'B1G-worthy' after the upcoming game. Just hope they can keep from getting woodshedded by 30+.
The Big 10 will be an NCAA bubble onto itself.Oh for sure, I would too.

Well said! It seems like with Ben there is no true weak links on this roster (that play at least)….all the players seem to know their roles and every 5 man combo works as a cohesive unit….I like everything about this team, even though they are undermanned they work their @$$ off defensively, offensively, and on the boards. Coach McCollum is a breath of fresh air, he's informative, he explains how he goes about coaching, and he's passionate about the game, and he wants the students to come along along for the ride, students our former coach never became engaged with. OK, so maybe some of us may have been a little overzealous, but it's all good. Iowa hit a home run with the hire of Ben McCollum and no matter how this season turns out, let's see how the season pans out before we give up on this team, I truly believe better days are ahead of us. Go Hawks!

And an undefeated Nebraska team twice.Iowa has at lest guaranteed losses against Purdue twice and Michigan, that gives Iowa 7 losses with still a cushion for an additional 3 losses to still make the field of 64. Plenty of time to build a resume to get er done, not time to panic yet.
Need to pull off an upset or two on the road to get in. Purdue is unlikely due to size etc, but “that’s why they play the game”. Go Hawks!
And? My post was in reference to Hawk08 saying it not like the womens team being down 16 to an 0-5 Indiana team. It was certainly part of the conversation.Wrong board.
I'm not nearly as confident in that as I was a few weeks ago. Given the schedule, they really needed the last 2 games. In addition, the offensive issues that arose in the games leading up to and including the MSU game have reared up once again. Ben needs to figure it out, because, with the exception of the ISU game, where Iowa played well but lost to a much better team, the offense has really struggled during stretches of games they've lost. If they can't fix that, they're not dancing. We’re making the tournament.
The bubble is absolutely terrible right now if it makes you feel better.
I don't think they needed both. I'd feel 100% better if they had went 1-1 in them.I'm not nearly as confident in that as I was a few weeks ago. It's not just that they lost both. It's how they lost both and their inability to do anything offensively for long stretches at a time. BM needs to figure out why the offense operates so poorly with BS on the court at the beginning of these games. They're shooting 40% or less in those losses and are falling way behind early. You can't do that and expect to win B1G games.I don't think they needed both. I'd feel 100% better if they had went 1-1 in them.
I think 19 in the regular season gets Iowa in.Iowa HAS to go on a run starting with the Rutgers game. I think they lose to Purdue and Indiana coming up, but they have a chance to win 6 in a row. If they go .500 in that stretch, we are looking at the NIT barring a deep BTT run.
That Minnesota loss really hurts. They are going to need at least 20 and maybe 21 wins to get into The Dance. Their non-conference schedule was really bad which won't help them. Ceiling is 23 wins. Worst case is 18 wins.
Have you thought about changing your screen name? It's seemingly unlikely that Iowa will be in the NCAA Tournament. How does the season finish?
He likes the irony.Have you thought about changing your screen name?
