Do we have the worst offense in BIG (again)?

First, let's throw out the 2 high school teams we've played.

-Very little offense vs ISUX (they gave up 42 to WV today).
-Only 2 scoring drives vs Mich--BOTH drives benefited greatly from lucky bounces and penalties.--otherwise we are shutout
-O$U dominates our offense (O$U gave up 461 yds to IL last week!)

We are in BIG trouble people!

We’ve played Michigan on the road and Ohio state, probably the best team in the country nd most talented on paper.

lol enough with the excuses the offense is crap, unless they play uni every week, reality is until Ferentz decides to leave the offense will not be good enough to take next step for playoffs
Okay moron, Ohio state and Michigan on the road, what tougher defense will we face this year ? Iowa returns the least snaps in P4 and is next to last in the big ten in nil. Those aren’t excuses, those are facts.

So far, we have the worst run game. But we played top 10 defenses the past two weeks. Today we actually moved the ball better than we did against Michigan. Not the worst, but close.

Iowa had wide open receivers in the middle of the field the whole game. Brown couldn't hit them or couldn't see them.
He didn’t see them unless they were option 1. Many have been blaming Iowa receivers for this lackluster offense. It’s not. It’s a qb that stares down receivers and a o-line that can’t pass protect.

This right here. I'm not sure how much everything was pointed out on TV but I wanted to ram my head into a wall with how open our guys were. The only thing not working was the bootleg to the right and that was because Brown was very indecisive.

The run game was not really attempted. 15 carries by Phillips and Moulton combined. Jackson may have had 2 more.

Today was so... dumb. The penalties, missed throws, scared play calling (on defense at the end of the half), injuries. Nothing went well.

At the same time: RVZ with two good grabs again, we only went 3 and out 3 times on offense, Diaz had a great game and shows he is good, Vonnamme had a good game.

I know we only had 238 yards or so but thats better than normal.

This is the first game our pass protection was lackluster. Our run blocking and running back room has been the problem.

Everyone is surprised by the lack of production? They played two P4 teams before this game and looked average. What do you expect? The play calling was terrible for a big game. They never established the run and wanted to pass. I never thought I'd say that about a KF coached team. They put Hank Brown in a position to fail. Give the kid a break. A bunch of you sanctified him after one throw last week. Expectations were too high coming into this game. They didn't get blown out on the scoreboard. Lots of football to be played.

I actually love that they opened up throwing the ball, but they overdid it. Felt like they just needed to have a few few play action passes on first down early to soften them up and they did that but they kept throwing it over and over.

Well, first you have to look at why.

What is it that Iowa is doing and failing at if we're to understand why they'd be considered one of the worst offenses in the B10 again?

Yeah it's tough to say. It seems opponents for years have been stacking the box to suffocate our run game, and, at same time all this lane blitzing gives little time for our notoriously bad QBs to find an open receiver. This year we have some of the best skill position guys we've had in a long time, but rarely are able to get them the ball to make plays (unless we are playing the worst FBS/FCS teams)

I would love to see more jailbreak screens to our athletes to maybe slow down all this crowding at LOS. But it seems we've rarely seen that in last half-dozen years.

Idk. At no time did I think we'd have sustained success running the ball. In p4 games we're averaging about 2.5 yards a carry and that's with most of those coming on 1st and 10. If it's 3rd or 4th and short I'd have no confidence handing it off

You want facts? LOL

Try these: KF claimed the QB competition was "even," despite how utterly and completely Hecklinski outplayed Brown on kids' day. KF said what happened last year didn't matter . . . which he said ONLY because Brown was his guy all along, and KF didn't want the FACT that Brown's failure against Indiana cost Iowa the game to be a factor.

KF objected to Brad Banks, Drew Tate, Ricky Stanzi, and CJ Beathard as QBs. Instead, he chose the likes of McCann, Christensen, Rudock, Petras, and OMG, Hill! And then he named his son OC and doubled down by naming him QB coach! Hell, even BF himself admitted in public, "I don't know anything about playing quarterback." Look it up.

Brown is another vanilla game manager with no special talent. He can't run, he's a slow decision-maker, he throws a wobbly ball, he misses wide open receivers, he lost a fumble and threw an INT yesterday. He failed to deliver a single TD all game long. Third and two and they end up with a FG. You don't beat Ohio State by kicking a couple of field goals.

Another fact: Brown has started EVERY game, despite the QB competition being "even." Seems odd to me.

Another fact: Hecklinski looked like an NFL QB vs. OSU while Brown looked like, well, a fourth-stringer.

Another fact: Brown started two games at Auburn. One was decent, the other was not very good. After the not very good one, he was benched. Then he transferred to Iowa where, naturally, he "wins" the QB job and is anointed by KF to take every meaningful snap until he's physically unable to play.

A final fact: Whatever QBs have accomplished at Iowa has happened in spite of KF, not because of him. And here we go again . . .

The offense right now has taken a step back which is disappointing but imo there's more pieces than offensive challenged teams of recent years. Be a big 2nd half for Lester. Imo the strength is that we have some weapons we don't always have in diaz, vander Zee, TE group and Jackson
Did you see NW's run game vs. PSU? I think they ran for over 400 yards! Their RB is quick and fast, and their O-line was opening HUGE holes. At Iowa we have the Shanahan offense keeping the running game well under the radar with a game manager at QB who didn't do a very good job of managing anything vs. OSU.

They didn't overdo it. Brown missed a ton of WIDE OPEN receivers that would have totally changed the game. Hecklinski deserves the start vs. Washington. What's KF afraid of--that Hecklinski will prove how wrong KF is about the QB position . . . AGAIN!?

Hey, Iowa runs the amazing Shanahan offense. Nobody can stop it. It's filled with creative, clever, misdirection. I pity the defenses that have to face Lester and his giant playbook.

Everyone bitches about not throwing the ball, and when we do and it fails we dodnt run enough. Smgdh. I think the OSU game was a step in the right direction, we have 2 stud lineman and 3 who are not to their level. This brings back the old question should we have similar talent at all OL positions that way they can better work in unison? We have great individual linemen, but that doesn't always translate to great lines. I just dont think we are big enough in the interior 3, we cant get any push. I watched minnesotas fat guys push michigan off the ball because they had size.
