We picked up an OL commit today and also one from the portal earlier in the week. But I agree, we are seriously under recruiting the OL.
Look at all the 4 stars that have left from the past three classes Ill go wait and see on this class, it sounds like they’ll take 8-10 portal players
And yet we will have posters telling us how we will win 8-9 games next season just like the last four.…. We are dead LAST IN BIG 10 RECRUITING?????

However by keeping the current coaches, the recruiting numbers will most likely improve in the near future.
Yes the early signing period matters. The bulk of recruits sign then and are officially off the table. Coaches are faced with the decision whether to fill their class or wait until Feb IF someone might be available.
Who knows about the portal. My guess is over time, a team will gain about as much as it lost. Some years it could be brutal in losses. So yes, there is a big dynamic there.

The transfer portal is just another arrow in the quiver of the stars/recruiting rankings don’t matter crowd
guess what … every other program in addition to recruiting high school talent is also trying to improve via the portal and given how the last 4 years has looked it is hard for me to believe that Frost is doing it better or even as well as the programs we are competing with
if you are having to fill massive roster holes via the portal or JUCOs going into year 5, you have failed very badly during those years

I’m just waiting for a kid to sign in December and hit the portal in Jan, only to sign again in February

The portal will have more of sn impact than recruiting 17 yr olds. The HS player can transfer... The portal player is here to stay.
You get your scholly back now if a player transfers, up to 10 per year. You can sign a portal player any time I believe.

Of all the power 5 programs that only signed 13 recruits on Feb 15 we were ranked dead last, finishing behind the Cal bears
we didn’t finish ahead of any power 5 programs that signed 14 yet still finished behind 2 programs that signed 12
this class lacked not only in quantity but quality

Facts are not allowed here. Now take a couple puffs and open your mind that Nebraska is still dealing with the fallout from Riley and Covid, but we just figured out there is this thing called a transfer portal that will turn everything around.

Even worse. What little talent the state produced this year, all went out of state. In the history of the Nebraska Cornhuskers has the top four prospects in the state all left for other schools? Unforgivable.

That is one of the reasons we have a new O line coach. There were rumors that Austin had quit recruiting early in the season and that he was gone regardless of the outcome.
When virtually everybody says that your head coach is going to get fired, it's pretty damned tough to recruit. It's just the way it was. IF we can win this next fall, things will turn around. It's concerning to say the least but it's pretty obvious why we didn't recruit a bunch of 4 stars this cycle.
At one point a few weeks ago, there were over 20% of D-1 players in the portal. That number is continuing to grow. There's a pretty good chance that we can sign more D-1 capable players over the next 5 months than comparable high school talent this fall. I love what they did at several positions with transfers. I don't believe that portal signees count towards your recruiting ranking. We're not done with transfers yet either. I'm fairly certain we'll sign a QB and maybe another transfer O lineman. Whipple is just getting started.…. We are dead LAST IN BIG 10 RECRUITING?????

Not necessarily. I'm just not sure that the high school rankings are as relevant now with the kind of players you can get through the portal who fill immediate needs. Top this class off with a stud transfer QB and you're in pretty damned good shape for at least next fall. College football is going through a cataclysmic shift and I've never been all that wild about recruiting rankings. Some of our highest ranked classes have turned out pretty weak this past 20 years. Ideally you would sign a bunch of highly ranked high schoolers but even then those kids take 2 years to develop normally. There's a reason Bill Snyder raided Jucos every year. We needed some immediate help at a couple of positions and we're finding it. Need another body at QB because Torrez is a ways off.
