Memphis has been waiting 9 years to get the jab in on us..... gonna get Jefferies and Wiseman... congrats.. now watch our better recruiting class take shape and weep ya tiger sissies.

to me at least it's not about taking players from Cal (yeah, that's nice as it means our staff can recruit REALLY well) It's about locking down Memphis area players again like we did in the 70s and 80s

Cal was able to get five star kids from out of town but Memphis' run to the title game in 1973 and our run in the 80s were always with Memphis kids like Larry Finch, Ronnie Robinson, Keith Lee, Andre Turner...that's why it's so important for Memphis to lock down these Memphis products.

Penny can run practice, recruit and be the face of the program...Sam Mitchell (NBA COY) and Tony Madlock can handle the Xs and Os/ day-to-day operations of a basketball program...Mike Miller can recruit and handle individual workouts.

next few seasons should be fun times...plus, we actually have a football team to watch and enjoy.

Our football program would be winning 10+ games in that conference also.. much easier to build up a program in a smaller conference than one like the SEC .

Some people think some of us BBN'ers are crazy for wanting 1-2 Ky boys on the team at the end of the bench...... its taking that thought process to the max wanting all the home city area boys on the team LOL.

"The reality?" Smh. The reality was DJ had the opportunity of a lifetime, but the integrity of a turd.

I didn't want to say anything bad about the kid, but this is another example of why parents should be seen and not heard. Jmo.

WTF did he expect? A leprechaun to bring him a pot of gold in the middle of the night?

Not going to get into football, because that is irrelavant, and has nothing to do with the discusion. Your NBA coach of the year means nothing. College is a completely different animal. And the other coach has done what exactly? Sounds like ur just baiting for more replys. Ya got me. Im replying.

Tony Madlock played for Memphis...he has also served as Assoc HC and interim HC at Mississippi along with serving as Asst Coach under Tony Barbee at UTEP. (they made the NCAAs)

I feel like that's solid experience for a second chair asst coach. Sam Mitchell was named NBA COY and lead Toronto to two straight playoffs before becoming a tv broadcaster and AAU coach.

Experience is one thing, success is another. None of your coaches have any success as a College basketball Coach...

Ill use this analogy for ya. If you take a guy from formula 1 racing who has never driven on a dirt track, and he goes down to racing dirt dirt track. Do you really think he will be successful?

Players aren't going to UK or memphis for the assistant coaches.
I didnt bring this topic up he did. Also i agree with what you said for the most part. You are only as successful as your weakest link...though..

Memphis is desperate and loading up on "names" for coaches. When you have a completely green hc you need as many basketball minds as you can get.

I'm not hating on him. But I question the mentality of someone that would rather play at a school with zero national exposure and for a guy that's never coached a collegiate game, over a national powerhouse blue blood and a Hall of Fame coach that has a long track record of getting guys into the league. I wish the kid luck, but in my honest, we dodged a bullet.

I have no hate for him wanting to play for a familiar coach and stay close to home. That's all good and well, but when you and your dad call out our coaches because you are an entitled little ***** who got your feelings hurt, well that I take issue with.

I don’t think Penny is the real reason. He just became the excuse! He wanted to be a main focus and a starter! Cal was still recruiting bigger fish!

I just don't like all the BS he talked so early on. How Ky was his dream school and Penny being named coach didn't matter, he wanted to be a wildcat. Just looks like a wishy washy guy at this point. He was so strong Ky then flip flop. Whatever though, we just got a beast!

Please don't hate on this kid as he knew what he was doing. Would you want to sit behind the last to players we got? He can now go to Memphis and lose many games and be done playing early in March and can watch the Cats in March madness!
Just let it go, it’s going to be OK.

Need to forgive and forget. He congratulated Dontaie after he committed to UK. And we are in great shape with the two wings we now have now.

First off, I don’t hate the kid I wish him well. Nobody knows where he will end up but it will most likely be Memphis which is fine. Jefferies seemed to have the mind set of I’m coming starting and then playing my one year and off to the pros. It doesn’t work for everyone. Especially w guy like him that is not great st one thing. He’s a tweener. He’s only 6’7 he could still grow but he wants to play the 3 spot. He could of here as well as the four. I think he saw we were after Allen which was no threat for him if he believes in himself, but when he saw Whitney the picture became more clear to him. He would of been here a minimum of two years and would have
To of fought for not just playing time but his right to start which wasn’t going to
Happen. Cal could still go out and get and 3-4 guy that could start over Whitney because cal promises nothing. I think jefferies didn’t understand that and I’m sure while playing for penny he built him up as you will start wherever you go because you’re one of the best. Cal is straight up honest and promises nothing to them. Even if he chooses Memphis I’m sure penny will have competition he will have to beat out for his right to start. He was ranked one spot below Allen who can play the 2-3 but likely won’t play a ton till later in his career. Jefferies wanted that guarantee h would start no matter who was coming in and that wasn’t happening.

I’m not sure how the Barbee conversation went down, but I’m sure Barbee wished
Them the best and said they would not be recruiting him anymore and him and his dad took it personal as though we should beg for them to continue to recruit him. Frankly, I don’t think it has any effect on wiseman either. He wasn’t saying anything when jefferies was committed why say anything now? If we get wiseman great, but if he goes to Memphis so be it. Cal will get others just as capable such as McDaniels(said uk was a dream school for him and we would have to beat out Sam Diego st) Cockburn, Oscar, or even mr Cary amongst others. We will be fine, and I don’t worry about jefferies trying to sabotage wiseman recruitment.

Its over, DJ Who?
Look, he traded Kentucky Basketball and a National spotlight, the best facilities, trainers and coaching in the country, playing on national tv every game in front of scouts, and going far in the tourney, maybe winning a title, playing with future pros, and traded it for playing in MEMPHIS, for a 1st year coach. And playing a schedule at Memphis against teams like:
Northern Kentucky (only won by 2 last year)
Bryant
Albany
UCF
Tulane
Temple
Tulsa
etc....

And if he think teaming up with Wiseman and 1 or 2 more will build a powerhouse, uh no. And NBA teams will take notice also, how him and mainly his dad handled it. In the end, he hurt himself, Not UK. He cost himself a lot of money. Because he will be in college for 4 years, instead of 1, thats 3 years longer before the paycheck starts coming in. So, yeah, best of luck. it took UK less than a week to replace him with TWO players ranked higher than him. I do hope we get to play them next year.

Kinda worked out better for us so his decommit was actually a good thing for the Cats. I prefer Allen’s versatility and willingness. It also opened the door wider for Whitney and neither of them hesitated. I think we got 2 good kids and team mates who really wanted to be here. When one door closes another opens

FIFY. I don't think Jefferies sniffs the NBA.

He's decent, but with his size, skillset, and attitude then no way. To me it seemed like when Jefferies thought he may want to look at other schools, then he expected UK to BEG him to stay committed here. Dad got butthurt because he thinks his boy is better than what he is and ran his mouth.

Opps. How did that work out? UK didn't bat an eyelash and picked up two better players. Calipari doesn't have to BEG anyone to play at UK. The kids line themselves up.
