I agree but with the way he moves his backers around, including his inside backers, you may start in a 3-4 but the resulting front at the snap often ends up being a 4 man front. If you're playing Dixon I would expect him to be used in passing situations either to drop in coverage or blitz.

What backers? The Slow Davis? That kid should be DL. To say he's slow is an understatement. He can't cover.

Guy Thomas? He's 215b

Think about it

Lastly, I apologize to all the Sunshine Pumpers for not pretending to notice the fact our edge LB speed is as bad as ever. Just like last year.

Which is why Dixon outside is so appealing. At least he can run down a ball carrier.

Set the edge in a 3-4 with OLB? Lol

Yep...and even starting the season at 220 means he will be lucky to maintain 210 during the season.

Vs Spread Teams he will be fine...but power teams will run at him and that is a pounding.
Yeah, I love seeing safeties converted to outside linebacker, like what McBride did in the 90's, and having a fast defense instead of a slow one. That said, I could see Dixon getting fewer snaps against teams like Wisconsin.

If you send your a bigger slower inside backer up the middle, you're occupying at least one O lineman and maybe confusing the O line so that somebody else comes free. My point is that even though we may be playing in a 3 man front, we effectively may often likely have 4 guys in the scrum which might actually allow our DEs to set the edge. I don't know enough about Davis to comment on him. I think the only guys with the kind of speed we need at OLB are Gifford and Dixon. I have faith that Frost and Ruud will be creative enough with our D to make up for some physical deficiencies in our 2 deep at LB.

Tuco used a wrong term with “spill”, I assume on accident for an OLB. Other than that, he is spot on. Not sure what some others are trying to figure out here?!

Yes sorry. I thought I completed my thought but didn’t.

Obviously the playside OLB, Safety or Corner can be responsible for setting the edge FOR the spill defenders.
