2. What the hell bringing Myles back in with three left in the first?
3. What the help technical?

I also though Douc should have started, but hey, fix was in. When refs plan is to hand OSU the W, then it doesn't matter when Myles gets in there. They would have fouled him out in 5 minutes regardless. Brutal.

I'll give you bringing Myles back in with 2 fouls. I didn't like that either...and his 3rd foul was actually a legit one. I didn't see the need for it at that time. We were maintaining the lead because the offense was flowing.

The tech? Please. Pike should have ripped one of those ******* heads off.

Yeah a few nitpick things I thought pike blew as well but in the end wouldn’t have mattered.

Guy is right most of the time.

My only worry is the half court offense iF Young is out. Him and Mathis are our most important players overall. But Young is crucial to the offense no one else can get to the rim at will.

Games like this happen. We had open shots to the rim even when down. They bricked, clanked and otherwise didn’t drop. Players got to do their part too to get shots to drop. Move on. Next game.

I don’t understand why we didn’t go to zone at least for a few minutes during the game with the Duke in. Inside baskets were automatic for OSU. That was my only beef with coaching today.

Horrendous calls on Johnson by the refs, but on the earlier calls particularly his 3rd, Johnson needs to know better.

Refs hosed us, Young went out, and we went cold. Bad ending.

Tonight wasn’t Pike ‘s best game

Things I would have liked to have seen:

- Myles not in the game with 2 fouls late in first half when we were up double digits.

- He has to integrate Oskar and Reiber into lineup especially with limited depth

- Too late going to Zone or other type of defense.

- Holtmann big time exposed our vulnerability and we seemed powerless to prevent it. Why not double team Liddell?

totally agree with the first two points. I disagree with the technical but thought it should have come way earlier.

I’m not disgusted with the coaching tonight. We were clearly the better team with a 16 point lead with 10 minutes to go on the road. If Cliff was healthy it would have been a 25 point lead.

Should have like Phil wrote played some zone. If they hit some threes that is the way it goes. And there kid had 3 fouls in first half and never got his 4th.

I've been Pikes biggest fan from day 1 but you cannot bring Myles into the game with 4 fouls when you are up around 7 with 11 minutes left and the refs already calling cheesy fouls on RU. The risk reward there makes no sense. Love Pike. Bad move.

And same could be said for end of first half. But, you roll the dice . . . .

Because I’m right? Trust me I wish I wasn’t.

You're not right. Myles has to start with no Cliff and no Carter like last year. Duke just isn't a starter in this league. 3 of the 5 fouls were trash, but I probably have to agree with your second point. The technical was needed. End of the day, the fix was in from the jump ball.

I guess you missed what happened after he was out?

Needed to double down on the post to make them pick up the dribble. Otherwise our low post defender was in an impossible position, particularly after saddled with foul trouble.
Yes; in my eyes, as long as Cliff is out we need to dare the other team to set the B1G single-game record for 3s. Michigan shredded us at the Garden because we wouldn't stop doubling down and now when our bigs are on the endangered species list we stop? Some credit to OSU for making it tougher with spacing/iso and certainly for their tenacity on the boards, which gave them many more opportunities to draw fouls. Anyway, if we could've dared them to beat us from 3 in 1H tonight, OSU instead sets the record for misses in a half. 2H they very well may have broken the record for makes. But by that point, if we have some fouls to give inside we can adjust that lever as needed. OSU is a difficult opponent to just say "Reiber, go make them earn 10 points from the line" because they shoot very well from the line.

Officiating rightly gets the lion's share of the blame here but there was a lot going on. I don't think we responded well at all. Myles is very important but he's not a +30.

There are definitely some things that the coaching staff could have done better, including taking a technical after the 16 point lead was cut to eight (or six) and Myles found out, but coaching isn’t the reason that we lost tonight.

Think you are both kind of right. He should have kept him on the bench for as long as possible (as long as we were ahead), but I also truly believe that whenever Pike decided to bring him in they were calling that fifth foul on him right away.

No issue with 1 or 3, but thought 2 was a bad decision with us up 10 or so. If he sits, he doesn't get his 3rd and maybe he doesn't foul out and we win.

I think OP's post is really dumb, but just because a guy is a NCOY candidate does not mean he is immune to criticism. Good coaches make dumb decisions all the time.
True but the OP was swinging at the wrong pitches.
