Disdain for Vic Schaefer

Not only did he leave MSU in the “middle of the night”, he took several recruits with him that had been committed here. Honorable move would have been to leave those recruits alone or advise them to stick with their commitment here. So he left here with a nominal thanks but dream job etc., etc.
He also played the huckster in interviews and man of faith but pretty strong rumors of his “family” issues. Yeah, Hugh Freeze had family issues too Vic.

I understand that coaches change jobs all the time. How will it affect your former players, school, fans, timing of decision - these are some of questions that we fans/supporters base our opinion of him. IMO, he gave very little thought to the consequences of his leaving would cause. He left us during a monstrous pandemic and we had to hire a coach via zoom. Coach NMP was behind the 8 ball from the start. Pretty obvious now that this has fallen apart with no leadership and discipline problems.

I’ll give him credit though. He was the best coach at MSU during my lifetime. However, he threw that out the window with his classless departure while hiding behind his ‘Praise the Lord’ sayings. Admittedly I’m angry after getting drubbed by an inferior team, but I cannot pull for Coach Schaefer to succeed.

Most of those committed to him,

they moved by free choice.

Move on.

We had a good ride, just shows how a coach can make a difference.

Doesn’t matter why he left. He left. And recruiting the best players he can is his job.

Man up. It’s a masculine world whether you want it to be or not. And by masculine I mean it’s not for pu$$ies

Did wonders for the WBB at State and moral of the fanbase. Always will be grateful for that. At the same time, he also had a used car salesman vibe. Albeit, one of the best used car salesmen in the bidness. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Unless there is.

Did dawg61 create a new name? Seems like he’s the only one that spews enough **** for this post.

Vic did his job and did it well. He was never going to be here forever. It’s not his fault we couldn’t make a good enough hire to keep the ball rolling.

No they commit to a school; they sign with a school; they get an education at a school; and they play for a school. Coach recruits them but it’s the school that educates them and awards them a diploma if they graduate.

the reason he left is paramount you dumbass. If there are deficiencies present, you try to fix them. That half *** attitude is the exact reason we’re where we’re at.

We agree on his coaching. But my point is that is was close to impossible to make a good hire and smooth transition with a pandemic going on and with the timing of his departure. No reason that a coach won’t stay here long term. That’s the mentality that has to change.

What are the “family” issues? I don’t blame anyone for leaving for more money and a better job. I do blame Cohen. Cohen has “family” issues.

Not for me to say. Might just be rumors and not true. He didn’t leave for more money. As far as a better job, that’s debatable. Certainly more pressure at UT as he will be expected to be a regular sweet sixteen to final four team.

What the 17 are you talking abt regarding a half *** attitude?
I’m simply saying regardless of why he left has nothing to do with recruiting the best players.

There is zero reason he shouldn’t recruit players to Texas simply Bc they were once committed to state. It’s literally his job to recruit them.

Shows a lack of class. It’s a move I’d expect from Kiffen or the like. It’s kind of like when your ex wife f**ks your best frien—oh, never mind

Vic was never the saint many thought. But the man built our program. Get over it.

Little salty tonight aren’t you coot. Probably all swolt up; you should trim that forest, go for a warm soak then put some of your vagisil on it. Should help.
Oh, thanks for your brilliant insight as always you little little stinker. Now go take care of that moist fungus-filled malodorous exudative cooter

If I were an Athletic Director, I would have at least one person per sport (for football, probably two) whose only job is to assume the current head coach is leaving tomorrow and determine what are our best options for hiring a new head coach.

Each of these people would work on plans for hiring a new head coach every day all day long.

I'd meet with each of these people at least once a week to stay updated on their plans.

Have a plan in place even if you think there's no way the head coach would leave.

I've gotta say, it looks like Johnnie Harris should have been hired to lead our women's basketball team.

I must be the only person who doesn’t know what the “family” issues are. I do know Cohen never called Vic and asked what it would take to keep him. Cohen saved a lot of money the day Vic left.

If that is all you can say about Vic and moving to a program like UT in his home state with his staff picks there is nothing anyone will be able to say to change your mind.

I promise you that Baylor nor Texas A&M are not happy to see him.

If you did that then it would probably have an unintended benefit. A HC could not get lazy in coaching and just lackadaisically go through the motions if he knew the AD already has his eye on the next person that would take your job when that time comes. And imagine had we had this in place 3+ years ago. Andy Cannizzaro isn’t sexting in the dugout if he knows that JC already had a short list of big name coaches on speed dial.

Coaches getting to comfortable at a program isn’t a good thing. Keeping coaches on their toes is a good thing. You don’t want them constantly looking over their shoulder, but you want them thinking and knowing that they are always being evaluated.

Recruits commit to a school in theory. For all intents and purposes though, they commit to a coaching staff.

When a new coach comes in, commits are often released because they don't fit the new coach's system, expectations or whatever else.
That alone should show you that in reality players commit to a staff.

New staff will typically release commits that want to get out since they committed under the previous staff.
That too should show you recruits commit to a staff.

There are some commits who say 'I am coming to MSU regsrdless' and that's great, but its hardly expected.

This analogy has been beat to death with both Vic and Mullen. Its use in this context exposes a toddler's level of problem solving skills and a lack confidence.
If your wife shows "lack of class", in your opinion, wave goodbye, change the locks and your PIN numbers, then check the cupboards and your bank account. If your money is still there and there's food in the kitchen you have everything you need to fight another day and trade up.

Vic, like Mullen, left the program with talent, a winning attitude, and everything State needed to build continued success.

If you turn an potential opportunity like that into a dumpster fire by bringing home some lunatic strange, who lays around on your couch all day eating all your food while watching the Housewives of Oktibbeha county, and now it burns when you pee, well, that's on you, not the ex. All you have left to do at that point is whine about your new ****** life and the ***** that "did" this to you.

Have some self respect. Place the blame where it lies. This hire is a huge mistake. Hopefully Cohen will end this experiment quickly. Have hope; I was pleasantly surprised at the timeline of the Jugghead firing.

They didn't "sign w/ a school", maybe committed but never signed, happens every year multiple times get over it. Maybe they knew something we obviously didn't about what was to come. And as for Vic "leaving us in the midst of a monstrous pandemic", he left in early April, he nor anyone else had any idea what it would turn out to be.

You nailed it. Loyalty only applies in friendships and family situations. This was an employment relationship between two coaches and a university. You HAVE to expect change to happen at any coaching position, regardless of how well-liked said coach is.

MSU is in a position where we can spend the money to hire quality staff - but as soon as they have sustained success the blue-bloods come sniffing because those MF'ers have insane expectations and routinely fire coaches with records we'd LOVE to have. It is what it is.

But what we HAVE to be able to do is identify the next set of quality coaches and have them ready to go at a moment's notice. Greg Byrne did this well. I don't know if Cohen has his list (though he obviously does in baseball) but he needs help in identifying good coaches outside of his area of expertise.
