Disappointed in the crowd...

UCLA earned this win, and they rightfully won the game. I'm also not going over react. While losing is frustrating, we will be fine. But...unless tv didn't reflect the noise correctly, the crowd didn't treat this like a big game, and when we needed the noise in the last 10 minutes....nothing. Reactive cheering the whole game.

Standing v Sitting, idk.

But many years ago, the networks began muting crowd noise in an effort to improve the quality of the broadcast.

I was wondering when the first of these silly threads blaming the crowd would show up. The crowd was up during the run we had in the first 10 minutes of the game. When the team started playing like crap is when it stopped.

To be fair to the fans, there was really nothing to cheer for past the 10 minute mark in the first.

OP is clueless. A whole lot more in which to be disappointed that had an actual bearing on the outcome of the game than the stupid crowd.

Damn crowd! UK could have won if the crowd had made some threes, or even got some offensive rebounds.

OLD STOLL FIELD GUY!

Would've helped if they quit knitting and reading books long enough to get off they're asses and cheer. It's not a social event.
And even if they had, it wouldn't have blocked one shot or got a rebound. STUPID TAKE!!!!!

Didn't he say that UCLA earned this win? Doesn't matter if you chuck up shots, and give up open shot after open shot. I've thought that Rupp is overrated for years, and I have said that here. People point to the records, but who has Kentucky beaten that on-par or better than Kentucky? Florida in 2013? UCLA should have dropped a hundred today; do you think they do that in Cameron?

Nah, its not my fall you guys have no reading comprehension. At no point did I say that "we lost the game because the crowd". But thanks for calling me a dumbass, when you lack reading comprehension. Have a nice day.
You're welcome.

Given the lack of effort by UK I was surprised by how loud the crowd was.

If the team isn't going to try, then why should the crowd? You gotta give them something to cheer for. UK's defense didn't do that today.

********. I was at the game and the crowd was great. I was worried for Doug Shows' life a couple of times. You can blame a lot of things for the game but don't blame the crowd.

I was there too and if you call that great I don't know what to say for you. Kansas and Indiana have great crowds. The loudest our crowd got today was when they brought out the football team, or brought out t-shirts.

It really is quite amazing for some dolt to criticize the crowd based on what they hear on TV. Equally amazing is the usual "the crowd in Rupp sucks" dolts to follow like mindless sheep

I just bet it was the Blue Hairs that cost UK the game today........How many post do we really need to complain about perceived lack of noise in Rupp? This horse is getting a good ride this fall.

The crowd is really only effective when we sustain a run. We played like crap, so no run was maintained.
I can't blame the crowd for that

Sorry, but this strikes me as horseshit excuse-making. The crowd sure didn't appear "muted" when I watched that IU game a few nights ago. And it sure doesn't appear muted when I watch games at schools like Kansas, Duke or Michigan State either. Apparently the networks only like to do this muting thing when its at UK or UNC, the two schools that are notorious for giving all the good seats to the wine and cheese set and not the students.

I agree with the OP, I was a bit disappointed by what I saw of the crowd. An undefeated top 10 ranked UCLA opponent, UCLA's first ever trip to Rupp Arena--I thought for a matchup like that our fans would get mega-hyped up. But (although I admit I wasn't there), didn't really appear much the case on TV.

Well you know, sometimes it's the crowd that can help make and sustain that run, instead of just responding to it after it happens.

A trend I've recently noticed in comments is the way many BBNers now seem to think the crowd's job is simply to be reactive, in essence: if you players please us, we'll respond, if you don't, we won't. There used to be more of a view that the crowd should be pro-active, in terms of trying to motivate the team when down, disrupt the opponent when up, etc., instead of just waiting for something to respond to. It's been a subtle yet quite noticeable shift in recent years.

Raftery said at one point that he didn't think the players could hear the whistle because it was so loud.

probably has to do with 98% of our fan base thinking this was an easy win. I'm one of like only 4 people trying to warn people this game wasnt going to be a UK blow out.
Agreed. I predicted a close game, with UK pulling out a 6-8 point win, but I had watched UCLA and besides their backcourt, I saw that Leaf alone could hurt us badly, and he did.

I'm disappointed like everyone else, but I'm not ready to jump off a cliff, lol. We will get better.

I suppose my personal issue is having such a young team every year; relying on freshmen, no matter how highly ranked they may have been, is frustrating.

We'll get better.......... But we absolutely need a shooting coach on the team and why the hell do we not play the overly physical bumping defense that all great defenses play in college??? Since refs have been changing how they call things starting with last year... Cal needs to adjust because this type of defense is no longer working well against good teams.
