It’s been a lock for a while as long as he takes the college route.
Anyone remember the poster who kept posting cryptic pics and messages with clues about Andrew Wiggins, his silent verbal, and his countdown to the day he would commit? That was comedy.

I have mixed emotions about this guy. I read one of his interviews and he made it clear coming to UK was about being on tv every game and putting up big numbers to set himself up for the NBA draft. And no, I'm not exaggerating or paraphrasing his words, but maybe he's just more honest than the other players.
Hope this ends better for us than that did for Ash ...
I think that's where you have to give Cal his due ... he took a team full of guys who had basically one thing in mind (NBA), and got them to play as a team. Well, for the first part of his time here anyway.
I know everyone is excited about this guy, and maybe they should be because we literally have nobody signed. Granted we could return 11 players, we won't but could. That said...
This dude shoots 35% from the floor and 30% from 3. He's a high, HIGH volume scorer. Basically averages a point per attempt. I've seen nothing but highlights, but man...it's amazing what we get excited about.

I know nothing about Pate's game at this point ... but this is a real thing. I remember pretty much every dude we got last off-season, some people saying how excited they were about them. I didn't know much about any of them at the time either, but most haven't equaled the hype or expectations that were put on them.
He sounds Amen Thompson's bizarro world twin who works as hard at getting up shots as Amen does on defense.

Chandler, kam, and Dink would be a pretty filthy trio at the wings. Get a stud point guard and power forward from the portal and you got a legit team next year.
I lived more in the old ESPN comment sections back in those days. My vivid memory of that recruitment was the Syracuse troll (Nerlorangel or something like that) who would remind everyone in every basketball thread that “The Wig” was going to commit and top off their supposedly loaded class. In the end, neither of us got what we hoped for there.
If he can back it up, who cares. We need that kind of thinking, come on to Kentucky and go kick some a.ss young fella

My fault! I was on the G-League site but didn't realize the filter was set to only show the tip off tournament games. When I set the filter to include the tip off and the regular season he's a 40/35 shooter. That makes me feel a ton better honestly. His numbers have gotten significantly better this season, especially from 3.
His numbers improved this year but he's still only 40 percent overall from the floor. One of the concerns I've read is his potential fit with Kam and CC. Pate settles for jumpers and has an absurdly low free throw rate. That would be 3 guys in the lineup that can't create and get to the rim. Mainly spot-up shooters. I like his rebounding numbers though.
Would rather tamper with Juke Harris from Wake Forest to enter the portal, imo.
