What exactly is the point/value of subscribing to these sites? Hearing about things a few days early that everyone will hear about anyway?
That's how I've usually thought of it. For UNC basketball fans it's different, though. On3 botched the switchover of the free board, users lost patience and left, and now it no longer exists. So if you want their basketball board, you have to pay.

If signing up here for $20 for a year also gives me access to that premium UNC BB board, I'm tempted. Does it? It says it's a "national subscription."

So . . . I signed up for the $20 national subscription. Then I went to the paid UNC basketball board and opened a thread. This is what I got.

Not $20. And doesn't renew for $49, either.

How do I cancel my purchase?

If people weren't paying these sites and forums would not exist. I don't pay, but I appreciate that some people to do so I have a place to screw off.

I just spent a long time trying to put in the refund request, but finally got there (I think). Fingers crossed.

I really get annoyed with platforms that intentionally make it as difficult as possible to cancel a sub.

I did the $1 thing just to check on HORT to see what happened and it took me awhile to find the area to cancel. Then you have to submit a ticket that has an SLA, so if you're too late submitting the ticket you're probably screwed. Verizon used to pull that crap too.

I thought those tactics were a thing of the past. I guess not.

Federally the Click to Canel law was suspended but many States are still moving towards getting it passed.

The Rule: The FTC announced a final rule in October 2024 requiring "click-to-cancel" mechanisms—meaning if you sign up online, you must be able to cancel online just as easily.

Get in the world of Microsoft Enterprise licensing and you'll pass out from confusion and end up paying 10x than what you needed.

Is that still a thing with M365? I knew a couple of whales kept their ELAs with Microsoft but I thought they made most companies move to M365

It's out of control with M365 - We have to use this matrix to try and keep our licensing at a level where we aren't overpaying for services we don't need.

https://m365maps.com/matrix.htm

It's also billed monthly but renewed annually. So if you don't have your processes tight/automated and people start misapplying licensing, you have to correct within 7 days or it goes onto your annual cost.

UPDATE

An email from On3 says my refund has been approved.

That's a pretty quick turnaround and the tone of the email was friendly/professional.

Other than the difficulty of finding out how to ask for the refund, the process went well.

I get why they don't want the refund process to be front and center, but I do think they could make it more clear what you are and aren't getting with the national subscription.

I also think they should offer bundles consisting of the national subscription plus specific premium forums of your choice. Maybe $10 extra per forum.
