That Mississippi’s time was coming? I didn’t. I should have. Cause it’s here. I’ve observed legislators and even our governor doing everything they can to protect their votes on this flag issue and wow they are more tone def than I ever imagined. RIP Mississippi.

Sad they have to be squeezed. This was teed up for them. But let’s figure out how we can get re-elected first. Disappointing

I hear you, but feels like the adults have finally reached their limits.

Folks might be dragged into the 21st century kicking and screaming, but it feels like it's going to happen.

The dishonesty of it all is flabbergasting to me. I would respect some of them more if they just said, “We don’t give a damn about 38% of the people in this state.” I’d be willing to bet that the same ones that support the current traitorous flag oppose kneeling during the national anthem.

One of our legislators had the gall to say, “I had two great-great granddaddies that fought under that flag.” Nobody gives a damn about your granddaddies. What about the great-great granddaddies that were treated as property under that flag? Sickening.

Our state leaders should more concerned about their grandchildren than their grandpappys.

I hate that logic. I have multiple family members that fought in the civil war. I have all sorts of books, confederate money, pictures and displays of it. I say all that to say, the flag needs to change. It’s out of place on our current flag and it does nothing but divide us.

I’d like to think so but evidence is showing me otherwise. We have people telling Kylin that he needs to find another team, we’ve got a governor that is calling for a public vote that could be the end of our state, and we’ve got legislators who are bringing up great great grandpappies. Why can’t we just agree that anyone who votes to keep the flag is a racist piece of **** and just change it. And where is the one state politician out of 400 that is willing to stand up and lose his job for doing the right thing? I don’t see one. Scary times.

Honestly, this is why I left the state. Staying, I could never get out of the good ol boy system instead of being worth my merits. I still think Dawg61 and his ilk are 17ing communists, but there is something inherently wrong with the Mississippi system.

One of many reasons that I left as well. I still love my state with all of my heart, but there’s a lot wrong with her. Unfortunately, even removing the flag won’t help. But it still needs to go.

I spent an hour earlier this week listening to Gary Parish, and say what you want about him as a sports writer, but he’s been dead on about this topic.

He mentioned how he spends nearly every trip to New York, Chicago, or elsewhere telling folks that he’s from Mississippi and then immediately telling those same people that it’s not as bad as media makes it out to be. However, if we can’t get this flag thing done, well... maybe Mississippi is exactly what outsiders say it is

Delbert Hoseman was on Gallo this morning and he straight up admitted what we all knew - there's a ton of legislators who would like to vote their conscience but their constituents back home have been lighting them up this week voicing support for keeping the flag. So yeah, this state is still very racist and many of our legislators don't have the gall to stand up for what's right. Pitiful all the way around.

Guess we should expect a flood of resignations from those deeply conflicted legislators. Any minute now...

I think if folks will take a second and look at the dynamics of today's movement vs 2001 there would be a lot more confidence in voting for a change. A vastly different atmosphere, pitiful state wide voter turnout and black apathy doomed the last effort. I haven't displayed any type political yard sign or bumper sticker in probably 30-40 years but I would do both for this. I sincerely think Mississippi really has changed that much in the last two decades.

I think you're right that we're closer than we've ever been. The fact that our legislators are dragging their feet and these asinine "alternative" proposals are floating out (assuming those reports are accurate) leads me to believe that a ballot vote would fail despite the surge in support. I really don't have any faith in the citizens at large to do the right in a private polling booth. Take a look at Chris McDaniel's facebook page as an example. Would love nothing more for my state to prove me wrong, but I'm pessimistic.

The politicians need to realize that of all the things they could do to address racism, symbolic gestures like changing the flag are low hanging fruit.

I will say this. My first concern is Mississippi because it is my home and I love this State. I see a lot of things that need to change. The flag is most definitely one of them. But there is not one state in these United that doesn’t have some of the same old racist thinking going on. Every state has white flight from their capital cities and/or larger cities. Every state has companies that relocate or locate due to a more educated work force. Every state has segregated churches.

There has been discussion here about the flag being a deterrent to economic growth but I think there is another underlying reason businesses don’t set up shop here and it could be considered racist motives if you dig deep. Why does no one want to come build large companies in the Mississippi Delta? Why has that region of our state deteriorated to an unrecognizable area? Why is our capital city falling further and further into the abyss?

Why does Little Rock, Baton Rouge, Birmingham, Montgomery, Memphis, New Orleans, Shreveport, Mobile, Tallahassee, Atlanta, Columbia, Charlotte, Nashville, St. Louis, Texarkana, and other similar cities in the Northeast, Midwest, Southwest have the same issues? Run down areas, dilapidated roads and buildings, Overgrown properties, abandoned homes and businesses?

The issues that we have in Mississippi are our there in every state. Our state just has this identity problem that has been the butt of jokes and criticism from the rest of the nation for 100 years. But our problems cannot ONLY be placed at the feet of the White Man. It has been a joint venture. And since it got this way together, we need to fix it together.

I hear people saying that the white people need to just shut up and listen. That isn’t dialogue. Both sides are going to have to open up and tell each other why they see RACE instead of Human Beings born American when they cross paths in day to day lives.

The Flag needs to change and it will make a lot of guilty whites and unhappy blacks feel better. But it ain’t gonna fix the problem. Identifying differences equally and honestly through open DIALOGUE and trying to close those gaps to join together to make for a better society is what is needed.

If you are a believer, Pray about it. You May find that even as someone who “thinks” they don’t look at a person of a color differently, they actually do have some inherent tendencies to do so.

If we can't get this right, I'll have a hard time defending MS too . I love this state. I know many people of all colors and creeds from MS who are some of the best people you'll ever meet. Just genuine salt of the earth people who would give you the shirt off their backs. I'm sure you do too.

Yet all some outsiders see is that damn flag. Fair or unfair, it is their right to feel that way. I would break my heart to see this state continue to be dragged down because some refuse to let go of a relic of the past.

This is exactly why I stayed. Mississippi needs people like me and you to stay, and I felt like I could make our state better. I don't blame you for leaving but there's still room for you.
