I swear I read on the board at TD Ameritrade that we haven’t made an error in the CWS since 1999 but that seems damn near impossible.

Yes, from what I heard the first CWS champion to play total error free ball in Omaha.

Yeah, that seemed impossible so I looked it up.

We made an error against Louisville in the last game we played in the 2019 CWS. So our 7 games this CWS started a new streak.

2019: 2 games no errors, 1 game with error
2018: 3 games no errors, 1 game with error
2013: 1 game no error, 6 games with error (multiple 3 error games)
2007: 2 games with errors

So since 2013, we have played 23 CWS games. 13 games without errors, 10 games with errors. It just happened that 7 of the 13 came this year.

Kind of amazing when you consider that more often than not this season we were a below average team defensively. We literally moved Kam James to DH for a couple of weeks because he could not play defense whatsoever at one point. Then his defensive replacement wasn’t any better so we moved Kam back to the field because we had no other choice.

And then we get to Omaha and all of the sudden he is playing like a future MLB guy in the field.

It can’t be understated the improvements we saw on the left side of the infield. For all the wonderful things this team did from Bednar to Sims to our hitters, frankly the only thing that shocks me is the level of defense we played when you consider where we were a couple of months ago. They all stepped up but ESPECIALLY Kamren James and Lane Forsythe. Those guys were rock solid the last few weeks, and there’s no question in my mind that we would not have won it all without their defense.

I, for one, thought that ultimately our defense would be the reason we exited post season play, and I could not have been more wrong. Instead, I think it may have been the biggest key (or certainly among the biggest keys) to us winning a national championship.

What James did at 3rd base in the CWS was remarkable. He played every ball to perfection and I only remember one throw that had to be dugout against VA.
