San Jose State still had their ones in while USC was playing their 3's with a lot of freshman. Wouldn't read too much from it.
USC called off the dogs. They could have named the score.
USC defense isn’t very good, par for the course for Lincoln Riley
It was 35-3 USC going into the 4th quarter. They put in their backups.
They did whatever they wanted on offense. This is supposedly the best overall team Riley has had. They could be very good this season.
The only thing that struggled was their crowd attendance. Pisses me off even more we choked to those losers last year. Can you imagine Kinnick this empty?
Pretty tough schedule though. They basically have the reverse schedule of PSU. They play all of the top three teams. Do get Oregon at OSU at home though..
I think they're a pretty solid team. They definitely have a ton of talent, but starting 5+ true freshman and that schedule is going to be tough.
Or buy a couple of frozen pizzas and get two tickets.......

This is one of the lamest excuses that gets tossed around. People don't go to college football games just because there's nothing else to do.
Who'd want to try to fight LA traffic to get there? It ain't driving through Coralville folks.
Remember how we felt with Iowa leading 21-7 at the half? No way Iowa should lose that game. Again, last year was another season that could have been great, but the Hawkeyes didn't get the bounces, didn't get the calls, and let ISU, Indiana, Oregon, and USC off the hook. So, so close . . .
For one thing, it was about 95 degrees in LA yesterday. And the forecast is calling for about 92 in Kinnick for this Saturday's opener. Still, Iowa fans will be there . . . at least 65,000. There may have been 25,000 people in the Coliseum yesterday.
BTW: I, for one, believe it would be nice if colleges and pro teams would stop announcing tickets sold as "attendance." As it is, they're simply lying. Is it really that difficult to list both "tickets sold" and "attendance"? You'd think that bastions of higher learning would at least have the integrity to be honest about such things. It ticks me off to look at an empty stadium and to be told the "attendance" was tens of thousands more than it was. Can't anybody tell the truth about anything?
You have to fight traffic to do everything in LA.
There are people who drive hours for college football gamedays. It's because they want to and are drawn to a good product.

Major cities with all the pro sports options typically struggle with their college team’s attendance.

in Iowa you got the state fair, RAGBRAI, and Iowa home games. As far as big broad appealing list, that’s about it.
Yeah, USC fans are rather soft. They'll show up for games against big teams, but not these "meh" games.
People are also soft in regards to the weather- it's rarely hot or humid here. Normal temps downtown in August are mid 80s, while coastal LA normal temps are 75-80. So 95° to them is insane. It's a bit sad.

This sounds bad with around 51,144 in attendance but if you look at the Big 12 this is their stadium seating capacity's. Cincinnati 38,088, Houston 40,000, Kansas 47,233, Baylor 45,140, TCU 47,000, UCF 48,000, KSU 50,000, Colorado 50,183, Arizona 50,782, Utah 51,444. ISU is the second largest stadium in the Big 12 at 61,500 only behind BYU at 63,470.

I watched a bit of that game and many fans must have arrived late. It looked like fewer empty seats about halfway through the first quarter than it did just ahead of kickoff.

People do what they're passionate about, do things that interest them, go to places they want to be.
The biggest deal is that the stadium isn’t on-campus, I’m guessing? That would prevent all the students just walking from their dorms like they do at Iowa and ISU. Big difference, probably.
I don't know if it's the biggest deal but you do bring up a good point GoU. Even at a private school like USC there must be students who are tapped out but would go watch a game. Unfortunately it doesn't help if the stadium is nowhere near your dorm room/apartment.
It looks like the Coliseum is between .5 and 1.5 miles from campus dorms. About the same as walking from Hancher to Kinnick.
