Did Pitino really not know?

I get the feeling Pitino was mailing it in with all of the outlier coaching stuff

He wanted everyone to believe he ran a tight ship but coaching started getting in the way of other things he wanted to do - and by his own admission, he was hiring people based on word of mouth and not personal knowledge.

Rick is a good guy and a great coach you’re there to coach basketball not to babysit 18-21 year old guys that are in fact adults. This country needs to grow the F up and stop looking for a scapegoat in everything

Chris Dawkins says Rick Pitino did not know what was going on at UL . Didn’t have a clue .

Get ready to write a thirty five million dollar check Vince .

This will cripple UL athletics for years to come .

Wonder if a court could reinstate him for wrongful termination?
Then Pitino is a dumb *** and incompetent as a head coach.

Pitino was making 7-8 million a year to Coach and know what 13 players were doing, how does a coach not know he has a brothel in the players dorm. I would bet he knew everything!

This doesn't give Pitino a free pass from Minardi Hall escapades. Destroying the videos and cameras are obstruction and he can say he doesn't know all he wants.

It doesn't make him compliant. He hired everyone involved and watching Pearl, Izzo, Roy & Self have gotten a pass every time.

How about his character flaws at Porcinis? This is all linked together no matter what Rick wants. Elitism isn't a good enough excuse.

I don’t feel sorry for them, but just goes to show you how badly UofL handled this whole deal. Coaches are being directly implicated at other schools and they play the “deny til you die” game and will likely get away scot-free. But UofL admits wrongdoing, fires everyone.

I may be wrong, but the NCAA LOVES easy targets and nothing is easier than a school that admits wrongdoing. I think Louisville will be hammered for what Kansas, Zona, Duke, and UNC have done to the NCAA reputation.

Dawkins is on record (and wiretap) telling "Coach 2" to call Gatto, discussing the Bowen situation, etc. If he said he didn't know, he's being sarcastic and mocking Pitino--or he's contradicting himself.

Isn't Pitino on tape saying they have to be careful because they're already on trouble?

When you're paid millions to run a program, then there's not much excuse for not knowing what's going on in that program. It's your job to make sure you know. And to make sure you hire the right kind of people working under you.

ESPECIALLY when your program has recently had several other scandals, in which case you should be extra vigiliant to keep the dirt out.

Plus I just find this excuse hard to believe. Pitino had a reputation for being a control freak micro-manager who insisted on having control over every little detail in his program. But now the story is that all the dirty stuff was going on without him having any clue?

Well, they should be hammered anyways because they were already being investigated with the hookers

Not buying it. We all know he is a control freak.

Just for the sake of argument, at best, it's lack of institutional control. He should have known, if he really didn't.

But again, I'm not buying it.

For sure the price of settlement of Pitino s lawsuit has invested dramatically to the point it may not be possible to settle . Half or seventeen million is far beyond their ability to pay due to Jurich mismanagement .

His buyout, petrino’s buyout , the new 65 million dollar addition to the stadium which will never be filled, the reduction in both ticket sales for football and basketball ,the inability to raid the foundation any longer among other things put a settlement beyond reach .

If Pitino prevails in the lawsuit it could bankrupt ULAA.

No one has ever had a problem with cheating schools getting punished. It’s the other cheating schools who get away with it while others don’t that people hate about the NCAA.

I'm not buying it. If he didn't know he choose to do so. I guess his assistants could be robbing the university blind and Pitino still wouldn't know a thing about it.

And that's my issue with Pitino with this whole thing.

Let's say he's being truthful. Let's say he didn't know.

Instead of being out there running your mouth, proclaiming your innocence about the entire thing, if I'm the head coach I'm having serious discussions in my head about exactly HOW COME I didn't know what was going on. Especially after strippergate, you'd think he would be in tune with absolutely everything that went on with that program.
