I think Frost will be the right guy eventually. He is just to new at the head coach thing and needs to find a top flight offensive coordinator to call his plays. He sucks at it. With him as HC/OC, it will be 5 years before Nebraska comes close to competing for titles of any sort.

Again, evidence doesn’t support your claim. I believe we can all recall previous coaches who received contract extensions only to have those contracts terminated.
Please tell me all of the coaches being paid over $5million/year who were 4-8 and sitting again with 4 wins who have 5 years left on their contract who got another 2 years tacked on to their contract. It's never happened. Shuffle on back to your Iowa board troll. People in the state lost their mind when we had to pay Pelini a couple of million to go away. They would burn down North Stadium if somebody tried to buy out Frost's contract. Frost has got at minimum now another 5 years to build his program and I'm happy for that. Thank God.

Maybe not the $5 million a year....but Nebraska has had coaches get paid less, that won more, and were fired despite having an extension. I think that was his main point...not so much the dollar amount.

NEVER has there been a college coach who was given an extension to amount to 7 full years at over 5 million per year after posting a 4-8 record and while sitting at 4 and 6. It's unprecedented and shows a long term unprecedented belief in and commitment to Frost and what he's doing. Any other take is complete ********.

I don't want Frost fired, and don't even want him on the hot seat at this point. But the notion that this extension is going to determine whether he's still coaching NU in 2026 is nonsense. Frost definitely needs time to right the ship, but if he hasn't done it by the end of Year 5 or Year 6, he's going to get canned regardless of the end date on his contract. You know that, I know that, and so does every coach with whom he competes for recruits.

Thanks to most here for the explanation. I guess I didn’t think about the recruiting aspect. Again, despite this season, I’m on board with Moos and Frost.

I didn't see this mentioned in this thread but you mentioned negotiation. I read an article that said that the idea wasn't his but it originated somewhere above him and I'm very sure even above the athletic director.

I understand what you're saying...but I don't think you're getting the bigger point.

I'm not sure there's been a coach anywhere that has been given an extension of any kind after 2 years of below.500 football.....and this can go from being a commitment to a national laughing stock very quickly if there's a 3rd straight year of below .500 football....at $5 million a pop.

And...I think we both know there have been coaches at Nebraska that have been fired right after extensions have been given.

THAT'S my main point.

I'm not sure why you are becoming defensive in a simple debate of your interpretation of a contract extension....I'm not attacking you. Is this your defense mechanism to imply someone is a "iowa ... troll" if you feel challenged? I was surprised since you're normally level headed on this forum.
I think fans "losing their mind" is overstating the Pelini incident. I don't believe fans really care about the money as long as it doesn't effect their ticket prices and daily life. Fans will accept any monetary transaction that is perceived as improving the viewing experience. In this case, placing a positive spin on current state of the program.

I think its a perfect time for a contract extension. It shows the CFB world that we believe in Frost despite the struggles as we get going. I think that is good.

Nobody said anything about 2026 but this absolutely kills the nonsense being spouted that he has to have some certain number of wins over the next 2-4years to keep his job. THAT's what this is about. Coach's Hotseat can shove their crappy articles up their *** and the clowns on here making similar speculation can do the same with their keyboard.

But this isn't going to shut up Frost's critics, because ADs and coaches have rendered contract extensions meaningless when it comes to how long the coach is actually going to be there. Coaches do it by leaving for better gigs anyway, which isn't a concern with Frost but happens all the time. ADs do it by firing the coach when they're good and ready to fire them, or when the pressure mounts to fire them, whichever comes first.

Frost's level of job security at NU is quite high, but it's not one iota higher because of the contract extension.
