Watched College Football Final, and I admit I did take a 5 minute break from it, but the time I watched I never saw WVU-KState highlights......saw Texas-Kansas, saw crappy Florida vs. crappy Missouri.......no highlights of Sills great catch.....of Grier's scrambling throws........ESPN blows.....

College Football Final, what's that? Are you sure you're not talking about the turnover chain final? That's all I can find on espn.

Same here. I watched College Football Final on ESPN2 this morning and saw absolutely no mention of our game. I guess we shouldn't be surprised considering they had that discussion of the ND/Miami game between Mike Golic, Jr. and Johnathan Vilma DURING our game with our game set off to the side of the screen.

That was the biggest crock of dung. The whole debate between those two splitting screens and ignoring whole plays so that boy can keep sucking off his dad's teet. The butt kicking up Notre Dame helped, but I'd still like to give him the finger in person and tell him if he wants to cover Notre Dame, then excuse yourself from our games.

The five minute Vilma-Golic discussion WHILE PLAY IN THE WVU-KSU GAME WAS HAPPENING underperformed even ESPNs usual low standards. But of course we all know the reason. It was a promotion for the Miami-ND game that was going to be televised that night on ABC. The same company owns ESPN and ABC. It was a five minute commercial for an upcoming game in the network they own.

And it was a great promo for a game that was a blowout.....couldn't have worked out any better for ND or the ESPN family of networks.

Let me help. WVU won a big game in a house of Horrors!!! If WVU runs the table ESPN will be blasting all things WVU on Sports Center for the WVU fans that need that reassurance that WVU is relevant.

WVU can win out and there won’t be a single national outlet spend more than 30 seconds on the highlights. We are a 3 loss team, only the playoff teams get the coverage.

ESPN has their favorites. Some because of location like UCONN and Boston sports teams.
Some because of success like LA Lakers and NY Yankees
Others because of fanbase.

ESPN is going to talk about teams that keep people on their channel.
West Virginia with Pat White and Steve Slanton were that team. Pat White was a household name even with causal college football fans because of WVU.

Even college football has large markets. So the large markets that win in football will have a larger share of the narrative on ESPN.

Thing is people no longer watch ESPN anymore and even smaller universities can generate the same amount of narrative on the internet.

Coverage for college football and basketball is all about flavor of the month year to year interest. Notre Dame, or Texas, or whoever is not like the Cowboys where the national media will continue to report on them even if they're in the middle of a horrible season. They might cover them in the preseason, but no one is tuning in midseason for the latest news on a team that is battling for a place in the Motel 6 bowl. Its all about creating a narrative that a certain team is unbeatable, or a certain player is going to revolutionize the game. Thats what gets the t shirt fan interested.

I saw all EIGHTEEN Sills TD catches on a video, thanks to this board's tipping me off. Loved it! Hope to see more of it against Texas in Mountaineer Field and on TV against Oklahoma.

Certain universities are different.
Texas only cares about Texas. Nobody at UT cares about what someone in Ohio thinks of the team.
Texas has been able to develop a following in other states but it is like the Cowboys it is because the state of Texas has a large sphere of influence in the Southwest into the Midwest and the South.

West Virginia may have an even more dominant hold in their state. Very similar to Arkansas.
Unlike Texas West Virginia needs a following out of state not just for recruits but like you said fans.

ESPN doesn't create the player the university and fanbase does. Meaning that if West Virginia markets a player in a certain way and it sells ESPN picks up on it even if that player played for a 7 win team.

Not true. ESPN trolls the top 10 to start revving up the bandwagon and runs with it until that team/player loses.

For a few weeks Saquon Barkley was Christ reincarnated on a football field. 2 losses later, ESPN has moved on from PSU and are now on Miami and the unstoppable Turnover Chain Swag Defense bandwagon. If Miami loses this week they will jump back on the Baker Mayfield bandwagon. And on and on and on the merry go round goes.

Who created that chain and developed promotional videos for that chain.
Penn St has been selling Barkley for the entire time he has been there same with OU and Baker Mayfield.
The battle on the field is one thing the other battle is selling your university.

Like I have said before West Virginia needs to find a way to sell their university Nationally. That is harder said than done.
Texas can always sell the state of Texas to Texans and be a big deal especially considering A&M turned its back on the state by joining the SEC.

It has nothing to do with that. PSU can sell Barkley all they want, the guy kept ripping off 100 yard games and scoring TDs for an undefeated team, so ESPN noticed, then he stopped and PSU lost 2 games, so ESPN stopped noticing. Its not too long ago the ESPN hype machine was on WVU when they gave Geno Smith a midseason Heisman and hyped up our offense endlessly on the heels of an 80-73 thriller against Baylor and a tight win in Austin. Then we lost and they moved on to something else. The formula is simple, undefeated team and best player get hype. Teams with losses do not. Alabama has become such a constant they now no longer get hype because there is nothing exciting about another dominant Alabama team except the prospect of someone who can match their greatness.

If WVU wins out they would have knocked OU out of the playoffs. That will lead on ESPN for a week. If WVU runs the table they have an outside shot at Big12 Title Game.

The talk would be more about OU imploding and who replaces them in the playoff rather than about praising WVU for winning its 9th game and potentially earning the coveted #2 seed in the Big XII championship game that ultimately would have no playoff implications because of said upset.

It made a believer in Matt Canada out of many

Too bad he wasn't smart enough to not go to LSU

They will never change the way they play they will change the way Canada calls the game.

He might end up out of work after next year

2016 Pitt = 2017 Iowa State? What do you think, Greg?

Close and good call there. I saw ISU up close two weeks ago. If I had to make a call I’d say ISU would have beat PItt in a close one. I think ISU is a Top 22-27 team and last year’s Pitt team was more like 30-35. PItt had 5 or 6 NFL level players leave after last year and a few more that will end up drafted or in nfl camps that were undergrad. So last year maybe 8-10 total nfl level in their starting 22. Not sure about ISU.

He had $1.5 million reasons to leave PItt. Plus he produces 2 seasons like the one at Pitt and he’s the next hot shot Kirby Smart to land a big gig without having to make a pit stop at Huston or Memphis.

I guess you haven't been watching LSU.
Their offense is no different than last year.
They are a very fickle fanbase. Hero to zero very quick because they build people up to unattainable levels.

Yep I’ve watched them. I lived in Shreveport LA as a kid. I know first hand how important the LSU program is down there. When you go to any of these football factories its a short leash obviously. Last year Canada had a NFL QB, NFL RB, 3 NFL OL, NFL camp TE, All American Kick and Punt return and WR and an electric two way player that will be drafted if he turns pro this year. Not sure how his talent level stacks up this year at LSU but those the facts about his talent at Pitt.

The issue is LSU's refusal to change the way they play.
Canada was brought in to open up the offense by stretching the field through the air.
LSU will not allow Canada to do so because his offense was totally blown up by Miss State
After the Miss State game LSU returned to a more conventional form of offense.
Since then LSU has played much better in terms of wins and loses but not on offense.

You can spread the field and run the ball at the same time.
You have to have a mobile QB. That is what they are missing.

I didn't see PItt that much last year so I do not know if their QB was mobile. All the ones at LSU are not.

They have skill. Guice is another Leonard Fournette. Not as physical but faster. He should be a Top 15 draft pick.

Pitt’s QB had solid mobility. Efficient. Not a pure dual threat but kind of like Grier. QB at LSU blows. Who knows what’s going on down there. I’m guessing he’s going with what the talent lets him do against that competition.

That is a narrative of a program for a season
Very different of a promotional video for a game or of a player.

Point is West Virginia should invest more money into this form of media.
The player profile was not done without Dana Holgersen pitching a product. The only product that should have been sold was the football program
