I understand why he would go, but why do they want him? It has been since his first stint with us that he actually looked like he knew what he was doing.

Remember that CL article called, "In Second Run, Diaz promises to stay for a while".

We don't want people like this in our program anyway. I do hope he gets fired again.

I'm as concerned about the amount of turnover, though. We are going through a DC ever year or two and there are many instances where Mullen has butted heads with his coordinators. We also seem to have recurring defensive issues, as well. My concern is Mullen wants his fingers in the defense and doesn't want to trust a coordinator to do his job. I have to put at least some, if not most of the blame on Mullen for manny leaving because it's not just Manny this has happened to...

This is absolutely something that must change if things are going to turn around for us.

That means the way things are looking and trending now, I don't have much hope 2016 will be anything to write home about. And our coach doesn't seem to have a sense of urgency to do anything about it from a coaching, recruiting, or any other perspective, really.

Year after year, it seems we face the same exact problems.

With Dak graduating, coaching turnovers and "diamond in the rough" recruiting all the ingredients are in place for an epic let down at some point. I`m not saying the program is tanking but we are due a cluster 17 of a season at some point.

We've won 19 games the last 2 years. I'm not seeing this sinking ship that you are. Last year was one of our best recruiting classes ever. This year isn't done... We have a shot to finish strong.

Diaz is nothing special. He's a good DC that's a poor recruiter. I think we can and will upgrade him.

My point is key issues are not being addressed. Coaching and otherwise. We lost to Bama AGAIN... not just lost, blown out. We lost to Ole Miss... AGAIN. All with the best QB to wear Maroon and White. We won 19 games over 2 years, but how much of that offense (particularly this year) is attributed to Dak alone? Can Fitz/Staley come close to matching that production? If not, what are we doing to supplement that production as far as a rushing attack goes? We were pretty abysmal at that this year. We still aren't recruiting or addressing issues on the offensive line. Our defensive secondary is still not shored up. We gave up a ton of points this year defensively. Will Dan let a new DC fix those issues, or will we continue seeing the same defensive pitfalls with this "bend but don't break" stuff (massive amounts of passing yards given up with only a few turnovers to show for it)?

With Mullen himself... when will he finally turn the corner and have us ready to play Alabama? The past few years have been nothing but #WeBelieve repeats. Will he have us ready to play Ole Miss, because we haven't had a good game against them since 2011 (despite Mullen coming to MSU saying competing and winning the in-state battles would be a top priority)? Will he finally start making some key coach management decisions that will keep a DC around for more than 2 years?

These are questions I have. We've had a good few years, but we are not trending in a positive direction. That's what is most concerning to me. We discuss the same issues year after year and to this point, they have not been fixed. Not only that, we had a couple of marginal wins this year, as well. Can we count on beating Auburn, LSU, or Arkansas again next year? All will likely be improved in 2016. Will we have what it takes to beat them, as well?

I'm ready to start COMPETING against the top teams in the league. I'm ready for us to show up against Bama and Ole Miss. They are the teams to beat right now and this past year, we didn't show up in either game. We relied on beating a weak Auburn team, Missouri team (who we won't be playing next year), Kentucky, and 4 cupcakes. Our best game offensively was Arkansas, but our defense didn't get off the bus. If Mullen is going to deliver on promises about division titles and not mid level bowls, some things better change.

Not sure what Diaz put on film this year to make him a hot coaching commodity. 30 point to Texas A&M, 31 points to Alabama, 50 points to Arkansas, and 38 points to Ole Miss---DBs not in the same TV screen shot with wide open Arky WRs and TEs and a lot of missed tackles and shoulder bumps.

Like folks on here have said, we need some more Defensive Staff continuity. We are losing Diaz and Hughes, I hope we don't lose recruits over this but since Tony Hughes was such a good recruiter we might.

Manny may not be a huge loss but he is the only coordinator that Dan has hired (twice) since he's been here. He simply moves someone or someones up who is/are not qualified and runs the offense or defense for them. My fear is that's what he's about to do again. At this level, that will not work.

Is that what Diaz calls arm tackling? I have watched tons of bowl games this year, and plenty of DB's on other teams tend to cut down the runner and get them to the ground. How come our coaches don't teach this. Look at Old Piss. They are much smaller than all teams in the back 7, but they have all mastered the cut tackle.

Is "Hawk Tackling" going with him?
That is one thing I won't miss. We tackled like matadors all season. I was a Diaz fan, but the fact is, our defense regressed a little this year. We didn't give up as many yards as last year, but we gave up more points and barely forced half as many turnovers. I don't see losing Diaz as a big loss for us. More of an opportunity to upgrade.

Tackling is also determined by how well a play is diagnosed. If the defensive back gets an accurate run/pass read to start off with, he will be in position to make a tackle. Simply are the Five interior offensive linemen pass protecting or are they proceeding up field with low pads to run block. When I come to a Bulldog game I have run/pass read the opposition O line from my seat. Our DBs missed a lot reads providing this has been coached to them. Simply, if a DB reads run and positions himself based on a good read, he will be in position to make a tackle. If the DB reads pass and positions himself based on a good read, he will be in position to make a play or good tackle. If a DB gets late to a ball carrier based on a bad or no read, all he can do is close the gap and grab cloth if he can get it?
