I love the idea of the length, toughness, athleticism, and defense.

Green
Diallo
Vanderbilt
Washington
Bamba

Now if we could shoot it..

Shooting will be fine. Just as long as we don't over shoot and attack the paint. Besides, you really never know what players will do during tourney.

Willis and Mulder went 0-6 from three
Fox and Monk went 5 - 10 from three

Why are these clips always of dunking highlights? Yeah, they all can dunk. Where's the passing, defensive stops, picks, assists, picking teammates off the floor and general BASKETBALL skills?

ESPN has rotted the average basketball fan's brain. Those tapes are acrobatics, not basketball.

I really think people are putting too much emphasis on the shooting for next year. This team is going to be a bear on defense by Feb/March. They are gonna own the glass and I think they'll be a really good passing team. As long as we add Bamba or return Bam, this team will be almost impossible to zone with the size and length they will kill teams on the glass. Diallo isn't a great shooter but I think he'll be good enough that teams will have to respect him. PJ Washington is going to surprise with how well he shoots it, I think he's equal to Willis. If we add Cam Johnson to the mix this will be a better all around shooting team than this past season. What will make this group special is their versatility and how they attack the ball. Washington, Vanderbilt, Diallo are all monsters on the glass and very active in going for loose balls. Could be a special team if a few pieces fall into place with roster additions

There is actually a decent amount of "other skills", including pull up jumpers, shown in the longer highlight.

Shooting is definitely an issue. But it's not a fatal flaw if our kids buy-in to Cal's team first ideal.

There was actually very little in that tape to predict future success in collegiate team basketball. It's just eye candy. We have fans that go weak in the knees watching the 'commercial' then see failure in a kid that progresses and learns lessons and skills they just assumed existed.

Diallo's only weakness was shooting th 18-20 footer comin in! They say that is no longer an issue! This guy could very well become an All-American next year from what I am hearing out of NY!

I know others have given you a rough time in this thread but I think you actually do have a good point. I think you are right that we look at these highlights and get excited about a kid and then are a bit disappointed to see them in games where they do show they have some weaknesses that were disguised by all the spectacular highlights were used to seeing. But, no one is going to show their weaknesses in a "highlights" type of video, we just have to keep all of it in perspective and hope that we see the kid more realistically when he gets to campus and in a game. I think I saw just enough in that video to give me hope that Diallo has a more complete game than what I have been led to believe by what other posters have said about him. His shot doesn't look nearly as bad as what I had as an impression just from reading stuff.

It's his highlights if you want to see any of that other stuff watch a game

Yeah, but that's so far off the point. Thing is, this crap builds completely over hyped expectations. We have fans that will lap it up. Then when he, or any other player, goes through the normal growth process process, those same fans see failure. They'll pick at him like crows at a dead stinking cat on the road.

Seems some are missing your point about ESPN. I have to agree with the ESPN part. They're horrible.

I for one have had my fill of one dimensional shooters who make the game 5 on 4 when they aren't "on".

If we get Bamba, this will be Cal's best defensive team even better than the 38-1 '15 team.Bamba and Richards are as good as WCS and Towns ( I think better). Add in Vanderbilt, Diallo, Washington and Green (an excellent if not Ulis quality on ball defender) and this group will be better than the twins , Booker, Lyles and Ulis. Diallo is a tremendous athlete with great length as are Vanderbilt, Washington, Bamba and Richards. Add Gabrial and Alexander (another long athlete),, and this team will lock down everyone. (except maybe sexton who is fun to watch)

I’m not sure how many fans actually fit the criteria you’re describing. Most UK fans are pretty realistic. Hami has tremendous upside, but the young man is very raw right now.

Then blame the stupid fans. I enjoy the highlight videos because it astounds me that a 16-17 year old can do ridiculous things like that, and I think it's great that kids who are in the top .0001% of the world get to show off what they can do.

Only morons equate what they see there with college basketball success. It's the rankings that so far more damage than the mixtapes.

I agree that it could be one of Calipari’s best defensive teams (at least from a potential level) but I’m taking the 2012 team defensively over anything Cal puts out until I see differently with my own eyes. Having Davis, Jones, and two long wing players in MKG and Miller who could matchup with anyone was a rarity.

Yes. I watch that, I see a kid with well above average athletic skills, decent shooting form and pretty good touch. No problem with that. It's a commercial. It's the fan with the outlandish extrapolations that raise their expectations and encourage other such nonsense. Then they savage the player, coach and team based on a figment. Diallo may be a fabulous college basketball player. He may have knowledge and skills gaps that take a lot of work to close. Very little in that tape hints at which. No future failure can be measured from that tape.

These are typically videos that break down strengths and weaknesses. I think many UK fans have tempered their vision when it comes to these kids after the highlight videos of guys like the Harrison twins, Bam, Teague, etc.

Very few fit the criteria you’re bemoaning.

I was watching the Nike Summit last night and Bamba was sitting right next to his buddy Quade Green and they were acting like two kids in a candy store . Green was actually pointing things out to Bamba out on the floor. in short he's ours !!

Hope it happens. If Bamba does end up at UK, we all owe Quade.

I just can't see Bamba not wanting to play with all these guys.
I don't think Bamba has made a decision. Having Green and Diallo here might influence Bamba, but I am not necessarily counting on that yet. Bamba is on his own path, and I don't think it has anything to do with the KSR stuff. Before Bamba would make a firm decision to commit to Kentucky, I think he will want to know what Adebayo and Humphries will do. Fans can say otherwise, but they aren't in Bamba's shoes. Bamba started his visits and decision process later than most other players in this class did, and I think he will need longer to finish it. I don't see any evidence that he is close to deciding.

Always seems like the kid is floating through the air. Unbelievable athleticism.
Yeah, but to keep from upsetting a certain fisherman, we shouldn't talk about this highlight reel crap.
Let's get a guy in there to film every practice and upload a lowlight reel for those that want to point negatives out for everyone. That appears to make some of our "fans" happy.

It's interesting to note that Jones is the only national media guy to report this news on Bamba. I still contend he is getting his recent information from a player, which makes the information suspect.

Nothing you said makes me doubt he'd want to play with these guys, and I think that will be the ultimate decider for him. We'll see, but I agree he hasn't made his mind up yet and that typically doesn't fair well for us.

I doubt he would identify the player who fed him info. He said we would identify the source after Bamba decides.

Jason Jordan is my guess. Hope I'm wrong.
