I think trying to read into players talking back is just going to be a negative in the end, and it's pointless. Emotions run high during games, and you don't know the context of any of these conversations. This isn't the military -- players aren't expected to just sit down and shut up at all times.

While I agree that too much talking back probably is a bad thing, Cal allows it a little bit more than most coaches, and I don't get any sense of disrespect on either side MOST of the time. Without actually hearing what is going on in these exchanges it's a waste of time to analyze it, and only makes the player look bad when us fans discuss it. Unless there is extremely blatant disrespect then there's no point in worrying about it, making this thread a giant waste of time.

has any player ever talked back or yelled at Coach Cal as much as Hami does? I remember Cousins doing this but he seemed to earn that right a little more than Hami.

I have been disappointed to see the number of time this happens and I would sit his butt on bench.

I agree. Sit his *** down.

All I know is Cal had better change something soon otherwise how on Earth is he ever going to mold a new group of mostly freshmen superstars into a highly efficient Final Four contender almost every single year?

lol It's not like Diallo is a lockdown defender
Not all the time but in spurts he has been. That’s all of our guys problem. They think they can play hard for a few possessions in a row and let off the gas. Some teams you can do that to but even against those teams there will be games that you can’t and Missouri game is an example of that

it will eventually click. It always has even in 2013 when Nerlens went down. 2014 did themselves into the hole of an 8 seed but they ended up being good enough to overcome that with some luck at the end. Is this team that good?

It's been known for awhile..Cal has told us we have guys not listening to him and doing their own thing..It's not difficult to figure out who it is
Here is my question, if a player is not listening and doing his own thing, why is he playing, the only way to stop that is to sit that but on the bench for an entire game. I would rather lose a game or two with Brad or a walk on playing than lose because our 5* players won't listen.

I think Cal allows more of the talking back than most coaches, and while it's not ideal, I think he knows he can get through to Hami better letting him talk it out. It looks bad from the outside seeing a player chrip back at the coach. But if it was a big issue, Cal would squash it.
I agree with this in theory. But, IMO it makes me uncomfortable for players to talk back THAT much to their coach, at this age.

I believe talking back is just the common mind-set for kids now. I teach 7th graders and I see it there. Kids think they have the right to talk back if you try to give them instruction or discipline. Parents don’t help the situation by always running to the child’s defense. I know we hear this phrase often but kids today feel entitled to anything and everything. If everyday average kids feel this way, imagine how much more so does the elite athlete who has been treated like a rockstar as soon as they could dribble a ball. I don’t like it, and as a teacher I work hard to teach my students that this behavior will not help them later in life and that it’s not acceptable. I agree with many here that it shouldn’t be overly-allowed on our bench either. If players have no respect - they aren’t going to listen to you. Coach has already stated several times some players just won’t listen. In my opinion, it’s time to put their hind parts on the bench if they want to run their mouths and not listen. And yes, I realize that might result in some losses.

I saw kid attitudes from a couple of players, makes me wish they would go play football or hockey and see how that would work for them.

Rose hated Cal early on.

Wall and Cousins hated him early on.

Bledsoe talked back every game.

Terrence Jones was a “selfish mother_____.”

Randle had a bi-weekly temper tantrum on the sidelines.

Monk talked back at least every other game last season, same for Murray the year before.

Of all those players who is the outlier if we include Hami.

Op, what did Diallo say to Cal?
To be clear - I don’t know any specifics of what was said. Another poster pointed this out accurately. I just see the cameras constantly catching Hami either jawing at Cal or the officials. The volume of times seen just leads me to believe there is an attitude issue here .

Remember after 2013 Cal said he would never allow a player or players to take the team hostage again??? With Hami and 2 other guys playing me ball and being allowed to do it without putting their *** on the bench it's no wonder our season is becoming quite similar to 2013.
OMG no! We are going to have the projected number one draft choice get hurt again this year? Already beat the brakes off of UL so we cant go back n lose that game. Truth is we are playing in an SEC that is night and day better than 2013. This team still has no bad losses. I mean it's like u people don't understand. Noel doesn't get hurt and that team goes to the dance. Maybe to the sweet 16. You put that 2013 team in this year's SEC and they struggle to win 5 or 6 games. U put this year's team in the 2013 sec they run away with it. We have been spoiled that some of these other young teams have had a weak conference to grow up in the past. This team doesn't have that so they at times don't look very good. Plus we are even younger than usual. Gonna be interesting to see this team in the tourney. Gonna surprise some people kinda like an 8 seed shocks a 1 seed kinda surprise. This whole tourney is gonna be nuts

That team was no gaurentee to make the tournament. You people need to step back (Cal nut huggers) and realize that this man has lost at least 2 NCAA titles because his team's either could not hit free throws (Memphis) or he straight up got his *** out coached due to his stubbornness ( Wisconsin) 2015.
When a coach says we don't practice free throws because they really don't matter and that he don't watch other teams game film he is either a idiot which I don't believe he is or has a massive ego which I think is the problem.

At the end of the day he has the same amount of titles as Hall, Pitino, and Smith here at Kentucky. And less in his time here than Duke and freaking Uconn and quite possibly after this year Villinova as well.

The man is not a God.
