has any player ever talked back or yelled at Coach Cal as much as Hami does? I remember Cousins doing this but he seemed to earn that right a little more than Hami.

I have been disappointed to see the number of time this happens and I would sit his butt on bench.

Yeah Cousins dropped 20 and 10 regularly and has a better shot than Hami. I also saw Cal laugh it off with cousins fairly often, Hami not so much

While Diallo's penchant for refusing to accept constructive criticism and coaching is simply one of many issues, you have to wonder why Calipari hasn't stamped it out considering he has on UK's campus for half of last season as well. I blame myself for having higher hopes for Diallo, but I genuinely believed that practicing against Fox, Monk, Mulder, and Briscoe for several months last season before going through the NBA combine meant a more mature player.

Rose hated Cal early on.

Wall and Cousins hated him early on.

Bledsoe talked back every game.

Terrence Jones was a “selfish mother_____.”

Randle had a bi-weekly temper tantrum on the sidelines.

Monk talked back at least every other game last season, same for Murray the year before.
I do remember each of these guys chirping back but not with regularity of Hami and every person you mention seemed to produce more for the team. Also - really surprised he hasn’t been T’d up given the number of times he seems to chirp at officials as well

Quade and PJ both talk to Cal a lot too. Every player is different.

It's only "talking back" if you approach this whole dynamic with a particular mindset. Good coaches encourage it.

Cal asks them to tell him what they're seeing out there or why they did something or when they're tired. Just because your JV coach made you run for anything besides "yes sir" fifty years ago doesn't mean every coach is like that.

Cal definitely allows players to give their input and at times it gets heated. However, if a player is going to state his case on a game situation, he darn sure better perform at a level that justifies his lip.

From the statements Cal has made about this team, we seem to have players that LOVE to give Cal excuses as to why they did or didn't do what they were supposed to.

I think lots of times he asks them. You'll see him mouth "what was that?" Or "what were you thinking?" and then they'll tell him.

He uses it as a teaching moment, and we're even younger than usual so there's been more of it this year. I just don't see it as any type of sign of an attitude problem any more than I see Cal's yelling as a sign he doesn't love or respect the players.

And?

How is this relevant to the overall discussion of this thread? Care to elaborate?
Remember after 2013 Cal said he would never allow a player or players to take the team hostage again??? With Hami and 2 other guys playing me ball and being allowed to do it without putting their *** on the bench it's no wonder our season is becoming quite similar to 2013.

I'd start the guys who give consistent effort without needing to be pushed to do so.

SGA
Green
JV
Gabriel
SKJ

Id still still find 30 minutes for Knox filling in for the 2-4 spots and the other guys I'd mix in as match-up and need dictate.

He was doing the same thing(and sitting the bench)with his high school team when he opted to come to UK,so why do we expect anything different,he is what he is and does what he does.
If that's the case then Cal not correcting it isn't helping Diallo.

Our PG needs to pass the ball more..When he drives he never looks to kick out for a 3..I want Cal to bring out the iron fist with SGA,Knox and most of all Diallo... They are all 3 me me me players.. Put them on the bench till they take roots . idc if we lose every game..This team will never come together unless they all play for each other..Be your brothers keeper.. This is a brotherhood here. act like it or don't play

Caring for others gives life. In all seriousness, forget about self and you gain. Cal teaches that life lesson better than any coach I've seen. It is why he is successful. He is trying to instill that in this team. If he succeeds they win. If he doesn' t, they can't. I hope Cal succeeds....

It's not what you say but how you say it that get's you in trouble. I doubt Cal is afraid of any player. He knows the truth, we can only speculate.

The guys whining about Hami are overlooking that this was an important lesson for him. He took an action he thought made sense and coach explained to him otherwise. I think it’s a good sign that the players can express themselves in the heat of battle like that. This wasn’t a milk and cookies intervention. It was a basketball game.
