That was unnecessarily offensive Brian. Not like you.

I appreciate the considerate admonishment, however TN was implying that Cal should force the kid to play against his wishes and their agreement, as if UK was a plantation of some sort.

His post was over the top as was mine, and I'm not concerned with the racial epithet, it was intentional to make a point.

BTW, I have a black son, adopted at 8 and is now 23. I'm sure some snowflakes will have a hissy no doubt.

Now you think you're being clever. You aren't. I have no idea what options were available had we not taken Diallo. I am certain there were some. Are you saying there were no other options?

Yes. Because if there had been, we'd have been after them. We weren't.

We wanted Lonnie Walker and he went to Miami.

We landed Baker once he decommited from California.

We took Diallo mid season, the recruiting for that class had already settled in on targets.

There is no mystery top 20 recruit at SG that we missed on because of Diallo. The fact that you can't find one and view it as proving a negative should show you that.

So instead of crediting Cal for getting a top 10 kid at a position of need and letting him gain half a year of learning and conditioning and practice, our fans are criticizing the move without offering ANY alternative.

Brian has asked a dozen times what Cal and/or Diallo should have done and no one can give a good answer. When that's the case, people are bitching just to *****.

Luke Kennard will be past 20. Josh Hart. Sindarius Thornwell.

If you are picking past 20 and need a wing, there will be some proven commodities available.

Just not sure what the next level holds for any three of them. Diallo could be, and probably is, the better NBA prospect. Maybe 20th is still risky.. but the 40th overall? 50th? I want my Rockets to grab him with any pick past 20-25, just at the off chance he turns out to be a star.

Interesting. You aren't reading the tea leaves very well. If he was just seeing where he stood, why wait til the last day? Why thank everyone for helping you? Why talk about how much your game has grown.

It is VERY unlikely he comes back.

Because if he gets good feedback, he’s gone. It’s logical.

But conversely, if he’s “very” likely to leave, why would he tell fans his reasoning for this decision; why would he refrain from hiring an agent; why would he say he's leaving the door open for a return?

There’s two sides to his twitter statement. You’re choosing to play the negative view on this just as much as those you’re accusing of playing the positive view. The truth is, it could go either way based on Hami’s feedback.

Maybe he waited until the last day because he considered not testing the waters.

You don't know anymore about how likely he is to come back than anyone else. Just because you've been fretting over it for 3 months doesn't give you some kind of inside scoop.

Thats all fine and dandy, but you damn well better have a backup plan and Cal does NOT. If you think what we have coming in is going to make an immediate impact, which is sorely needed, then you think you know more than you do.

This team will be very, very average without him.

I agree with everything you are saying, it might suck bad next year.

Doesnt change the fact that your top recruit wants to commit and enroll early and tells you he will play the next season.

Wrong IMO. Scouts say he will be a mid 2nd rounder if drafted at all. Really not worried about this in the least. It hurts nothing by getting feedback . I really think all our players should do including SKJ , Gabriel ect. but the freak out on this board would be hilarious. What does getting better evaluation like Briscoe did last year hurt? It doesn't.
Wasn't that projection before he came here? I'm pretty sure it was so it means nothing if his game has improved, and he says it has a lot.

Grayshirting is used to buy a 5th year since most players need that time to develop. Is it a brilliant move if Diallo comes back? No, it is luck. Most may not have answered your questions on this but I think I did, even if we disagree.

I must have missed it?

The top SG in the nation that you are recruiting wants to commit and enroll early.

Says he will return the next season.

But you still say no?

But he's projected first round next year. So would he leave to go 40th? I don't know, but I know I wouldn't.

We have had kids here for 4 years that never played...

I viewed this as a greyshirt in football.

Again, how is it a dumb move?

Kid said he was playing next year.

Our #1 recruit on our list.

The #1 SG wants to commit and enroll early, and it was a dumb move?

So if he comes back to play is it a brilliant move?

You cant have it both ways.

None of us can be sure WHAT was said, what the agreement was, what Cal was privy to, or what the kids intentions were. We can only speculate.

But he made his NBA aspirations known. He's a high recruit, reclassifies to come in mid-season but not play (again, we don't know for sure how that exactly transpired)... This had bad business deal written all over it. A good portion saw this playing out exactly how it's playing out now.. we aren't geniuses. I'm not at least. There's no way Cal didn't have this thought in the back of his head the whole time.

In the greater scheme of things, not the biggest deal. But we did waste time recruiting him, time that could have been spent elsewhere in practice or recruiting. And it now puts Cal in a tough spot for next year.

If he doesn't come back he'll be the most hated man in UK history.

But with that said he'll be back IMO. How dumb could he be? I'm not real concerned let him get his feedback and come back hell

That is making an assumption that players didn't already know about Diallo to UK. The truth is, we have no idea who else Cal could have gotten. We can do this all day, we simply disagree, vehemently.

I don't know what to make of the draft boards. I have to imagine some GMs are looking at this as "Holy crap, an elite recruit could fall to us, do we jump?"..

I'm not sure some team doesn't come out of left field to grab him much earlier than we think.

Because Cal recruited him, should have had an understanding that he would play at least one year, otherwise why take him? What did UK get out of this, nothing.. Honestly tho, I don't give a ****, this one and done **** is wearing thin.

I would like to think there was an understanding...

LOL not sure his game has improved but even so as the scouts said this draft is so flush with amazing guards that diallo will be lucky is someone takes a flyer on him in the 2nd round. Hell I am worried the kid from UL might be back due to how amazing this draft is with guards as in any other draft he would be a top 20 pick but he might be pushed out of the first round. This is draft is deep and next year's won't be. That is why Bam is very seriously considering coming back ( and I would bet he does ) . Bam dominates college next year as I suspect he would and he will be atop 10 pick . Right now he would go from 25-40 .

That's more of a reminder why Hami should return. The real money is in the lottery. Diallo, unlike Briscoe and Humphries, has a legitimate shot at the lottery next year.
Yep. You stay at UK for one year and things go mostly as expected and you double and even triple your money in first 3 years if you get drafted high enough.

Teams end of paying that whole first contract while they play in the NBDL and sit at the end of the bench. That is why the better teams would rather stash a foreign player and know they are ready and save the cap money. This is all a mess for the NBA as well.

Hope Diallo comes back but he's a shooting guard who can't throw it in the ocean. Fine with me replacing him with a 6-8 wing with ACC experience and the ability to hit better than 40 percent from behind the arc.

Watch the Diallo documentary, he and his mom lives in the projects and she works multiple jobs to put food on the table.

If any of you begrudge him because he wants to get his mother out of the situation she is in, you should be ashamed.

He should do what's best for his career and family, if we get to watch him play for UK next year, thats great, but for us it's just basketball

For Diallo and his mom , this is real, and this greatly affects them personally and financially

Pretty sure every player has thanked the fans and team mates when releasing that they are testing the waters. Why? Because its not the players writing it by themselves. They have help from the staff and others at UK preparing those statements

First, it is not clear that he will be drafted or go. But, if that happens then it is completely ridiculous and a stain on our program as far as I am concerned. Having the reputation of one and done has been defended here and many like to point out that this simply isn't true for many of our players. But, to take a kid, and if he is that talented as a draft pick, not play him, so he can get a semester of college basketball practice and a free ride is a disgrace to college basketball and especially to our program. Hopefully, he is only seeking to learn what deficiencies he needs to work on and will be on the team. Otherwise, we fans were the biggest suckers and hard to defend it.

I'm still trying to figure out why the trolls are mad.
1. He couldn't shoot a lick. That's all I have heard all year.
2. If he leaves, Cal will keep recruiting the same players who will be here more than one year. You know the way you ***** about one and done? Doesn't that make you feel better?
