I think a meeting would actually help. People would see it's real genuine people and not a quack....well I hope for that anyway. I know some people think Show is a bully, but when I met him at C2C he was such a nice genuine person.

Losing makes anything worse. I was talking to Hart a while back and told him this one and done debate is the biggest issue we will debate, argue, cuss, and fuss about. Totally has us divided. No one will budge.
I would love to meet a lot of folks from this site. It would be fun, and I'm no different in person than behind a computer.
I guess I'll know how much I'm liked if I show up at one restaurant and everyone's at another.

Please do not change the date for one person. But, a very dear friend of mine died from pancreatic cancer this past January. We are holding a 5k race in his memory, and guess what the date is? Yep.....Saturday September 22nd. I would love to meet up with y’all, but I cannot miss this event.

That was just a suggestion. I know you really want to come. Would the Oct. 6 date work for everyone. OFC

And see, I don't think the one-and-done has as much to do with it as you think.

Seriously....does one person here really like the one-and-done model? There's maybe a few outliers, but I think folks would rather have kids who stick around a while.

I think the argument is more along along the lines of getting the best talent or not. For me, at least, I liked getting the most talented players in the 80s that we could. Same as the 90s and 2000s, as well as now. Unfortunately, for the bad, IMO, the game has just changed. The way it's set up now, if you're a top 20 kid, you're going in with the mindset that being one-and-done is the goal. Maybe not the absolute one-year end goal, but it's still a goal.

Jalen Brunson didn't necessarily buy-in at Villanova moreso than say, a Wendell Carter, at Duke. The opportunity to leave for Brunson wasn't there prior to this season, whereas for Wendell Carter it only makes sense.

Again, I think everyone would take a rewind back to the olden days in a heartbeat, if they could. We just can't. So now the argument becomes, do we recruit the best players in the country, or not? Or, do we recruit two of the best players and try and fill in around them.

The only thing we know for sure, is that if Duke isn't winning as much as they should --- by perception, of course --- people are going to complain. And we all know that there is always going to be people who complain....no matter what.

I agree with some of what you're saying, and I also agree that kids that come to Duke get more exposure than other kids. Villanova is facing what Duke does off of their recent success. Several kids get the attention from their success, and bolt. Would the big kid from Michigan have left early had they not won the big ten title and played for the national title? Maybe he would have, but the exposure he got sure helped.
The reason I think the one and done debate is the most heated is what it does to our roster, plus the added hype that we "didn't" live up to. Few would be complaining had this recent team won it all. Losing, then reloading with even more unknown than what we just had pours more fuel onto the fire.
That debate also spills over to the bench debate, or lack of, which again, stems from the multiple one and dones, causing people to pray that the returning guys are working hard, not transferring, and improving.

Thanks for a little reasoning dj. Of COURSE nobody wants all one and dones. But as you mentioned top talent is just moving on now. It sucks.

Does one person? I'd venture to say quite a few do. A lot on here are the "take the talent figure it out" type.

No, I don't think there are near as many as you think. I think the approach many are taking is that while it's not ideal, things could be much, much worse. You have to admit....having the talent we've had the last two years makes it easier to 'figure it out' than not having the talent.

The reason I think the one and done debate is the most heated is what it does to our roster, plus the added hype that we "didn't" live up to. Few would be complaining had this recent team won it all. Losing, then reloading with even more unknown than what we just had pours more fuel onto the fire.

Winning cures almost all, I'll admit that. But people would be complaining if we were losing with veterans, too. Basically, fans will complain because that's what fans do.

Also, as you said, the Duke exposure plays into that. Frank Jackson probably shouldn't have left. Duval and Trent would have been wise to stay, too. But that's the change we're seeing across the board in college basketball. We know they shouldn't leave, but how do you tell them not to when they're getting millions thrown at them?

Lastly, on the bench....that's always been a point of contention with Coach K. It's nothing new. I'd sometimes like to see more minutes distributed, too. But I don't think a player's worth is based solely on minutes played, either. In other years, people have said so-and-so should get a few minutes each half to prove himself, this year we had three bench players average double-digit minutes....five more minutes per game wasn't going to make them better shooters or rebounders.

What is irritating for me is that when we were not getting NBA level talent people were bitching about K losing his recruiting chops. Now we are getting this level of talent people ***** about them taking advantage of their unique talents to make a better life for themselves and their family

This isn't to take a jab at anyone that doesn't live in North Carolina, or raised in this state, but you have to live here to fully get Duke basketball. It doesn't make someone that lives here a better fan, but you grow up around it, live it, hear it...It's Ohio St and Michigan on steroids for us in this state.
Living in another state, Duke loses to Carolina stings I'm sure, but what's the odds of running into die hard Heel fans? Try 1990, being a high school junior and going to school the Tuesday after unlv throttled us. Try living in those times hearing Carolina fans always crowing about how they had the nba talent, Duke didn't. A typical Duke fan's answer, we don't care about the pros. Finally, we won the title, then another. Then they did, then we lost in 94. Both fan bases always waiting, praying for the other one to lose out so they can bust the other one's chops. It's not like this online garbage. Imagine Gury Gary and some of those hacks living in your area. Believe me, they do. It's a constant back and forth, even years later, we pick back at each other.
I was on the golf course in 2015, a Saturday. Duke's about to play Louisville in a few hours. It's a decent size local tournament and there's probably at least 30 people there, with at least 2/3 of them Hole fans. Try getting ready to play golf and all these heel fans saying "you gonna lose your 3rd in a row, tough times for you Dukies!' Yeah, it's all in fun, but not what you want to hear before teeing off. Just smile and said "you're probably right." Couldn't find any of them after the round.
I don't begrudge any kid for bettering themselves, that's not the issue. Now the last 2 seasons, so many Hole fans wants to bring up the talent that Duke has had with no titles to show for it, while they've won a title and played for one. The roles have reversed. Now we get the talent, brag about our nba stars, while the Hole fans sound like we used to.
It's only a game, some say, but a little more than just a game living here.

Definitely more than just a game in NC. Its everywhere you go around here. When they lose (especially to the Devils), UNC fans are scarce as hen's teeth. When they beat Duke they're EVERYWHERE to remind you "What happened to Duke??" Obnoxious jerks by and large, and UNC merchandise triples AT LEAST what is available in stores in our state.

Another thing is the media bias.Duke can be ranked no.1 and UNC LOWER, but local sportscasts typically lead w/the Tar holes game. They love 'em and lap em up! All of this gives you better perspective probably on why some of us are so passionate in our feelings for the Blue Devils!

I get living there is tough....I only lived in Charlotte for nine months 17 years ago and it was enough. How that pertains to this discussion, I don't know? I understand dealing with jackwagons isn't easy, though.

Guys, I'm sorry to inform you all, but JB Smoothie has dropped us from the Track & Field Day that was to be held at Elon College. The message was sent to me via Fed Ex.
Rupp Rafters and THR don't want us participating with them in this blockbuster event. The message said if our bickering and whining that has been going on among fans on our own board was an indication on how we would act in public, then they both don't want us ruining their fun filled day.
So it looks like we will move forward at a restaurant, or have a grill out at Sky's house.
If we meet at Sky's house, he will email all coming his home address so the guard at his gated community will let us through.
No trucks with loud mufflers allowed.

What I need to know who is serious about this and if so we need to pick a date. I've been through this before. Let's start by finding out who is coming and picking a date. way up in the thread I suggested Sept. 22nd at The Cutting Board in Burlington, N.C.If that is ok then let's start getting some solid commits . If this thing is not going to go down let's decide on that. We need some way to keep up with those who will come.OFC
