The WORST option is anyone currently at UK that has been working directly with/under Mitch.
I think Peevy far exceeds that. I think he would be very committed to making basketball great. And that's my #1 priority. I don't think we would be married to Pope's church boy ethics.
As far as football concerns--I think Football is set up for success. We have Stein. We have a GM in place. I think he can work with those guys and figure that part out as he goes. And again, basketball is a far bigger concern for me (and I think most of us if we're honest).
He's not my top choice, though.
I would be very excited about Greg Byrne at Alabama if he would seriously consider it. He's been the AD over the most powerful/successful football program of all time. Alabama fans are probably pretty unhappy right now with the current state of the football program. But if he hired Deboer here, and we had Deboer results, we'd be ecstatic. He also identified and hired Oats. Alabama is recruiting at an elite level, despite having to support the most demanding football program in the nation. He was an associate AD for UK at one point. I don't care about that. Maybe it's a selling point for him if he enjoyed his time here. But I think he's someone that can lead to success in both sports. And that's if he is even interested.
Scott Stricklin is a step below that. He also was a former UK associate AD. Again, the least of my interest. But Florida identified and hired Golden. Florida is recruiting at an elite level. And sure, a lot of that is Golden. But they're not dealing with the handcuffs that Mitch has given us. Florida football hasn't been good in a minute. But they also just hired Sumrall.
