There aren’t enough 17s for this.

Time for Howland to go into that same transfer portal and find some talent. That is a HUGE loss for the future.

There goes that great momentum we just created for next
year. Just wow. I really thought he'd be starting PG next year with Iverson at the 2 & DJ at the 3. He was really starting to shine. His speed, ball handling, and shot were coming along nicely. Damnnnn

That dude just looked mad all the 17ing time. Frustrated. Played wild and wreckless. Would have loved to bring him back, however.

He needs time in college but seems like the type who will be Gleague after next year anyway. He’s not staying around to build Nuffin. Hell, like I said earlier in the year....this is a business. You can take MSU off of the jersey. Their is no loyalty. Not even from the instate kids. They try and bounce out of here as fast as they can. Who can blame them?

He has to. Molinar and Stewart are great off guards, but neither can handle the point. And it's not even a given that both come back to begin with.

I was guilty of it too, but we were all so dumb to think that we could survive a men's basketball offseason without having one of our solid contributors leave.

He was out of control on a regular basis in the first couple months, but he really settled in and excelled the second half.
Smith will never be a Monte Morris clone when it comes to A/TO ratio though.

Welcome to uncontrolled free agency where the rich get richer and the mediocre stay mediocre. Gonna be hell on coaches to constantly recruit new and current players.

Well that is how we don’t have a chance to make the NCAA tourney next year. One more like this and Howland would have to have a miracle to get in next year.

Yeah, someone prob rang that phone after the loss to Memphis. Hell, we would have lost by 40 if him or Cam would have mailed it in. I give both of them credit for always hustling and scrapping. I’d take those two as fresh and go build a team...barring they would stay....yes, losing him sucks.

But he’s a runner. And we plod like a boulder on offense....

I just have to question, when Ben is recruiting these high level, extremely athletic guards....is he honest with them up front? “Hey, we are amongst the slowest teams in the nation and we control the clock like an astronaut” “Come dribble out the shot clock in Maroon and White”

I blame him not one bit

He did start awful but he was vastly improved down the stretch. PG was his job next year with no one to challenge the spot so it is really strange he is leaving.

Either he didn't like it here at all or he learned of an incoming player that will put him on the bench. I'm quite sure that if Ben has any transfers in his sights the team knows who it will be.

It's a shame because I felt he was on the verge of being a good player.

And I’d easily argue the only genuine ball handler on the team which your stats seem to back up

Problem is it’s at least one year if two too late. It was clear as day last offseason that we needed additional depth at PG, but Howland didn’t add dress it in the portal nor with the current recruiting class. It’s mind boggling considering that we’re not looking for an all-conference player. Just someone that can bring the ball up the court and set up an offense

97 assists to 56 turnovers. Only player on the team with a ratio greater than 1.1. This is a big blow.

Damn. That seems crazy. But full disclosure- I haven’t looked at our stats and they’re likely just as bad. I think it’s more indicative of how bad a product the college game has become.

This is extremely irritating, but to try to put things in a little bit of perspective... The young Memphis team that just whooped our *** now has DJ, Boogie, and Baugh in the portal.

The NCAA simply has to shut down this free waiver policy. It’s ridiculous

I’m sure none of the transfers had any contact with anyone from other schools before they decided to leave.

Hate to see him leave. I enjoyed watching him play and he was sort of the spark plug for the team.
