Very promising to hear something!
Think this kid could be great. Seems like a great rim protector.
UNC seems to be going at him as well so can’t let him leave!

He’s also visiting Arizona. This would be a phenomenal get at this point. If we got 3 mil how much would the GM be willing to spend on him and can we even compete with Arizona and UNC

I suspect some visits are more about driving up the interest and price. He has interest from - Arizona - North Carolina - Virginia Tech - Oklahoma - Lots of other HM+ schools. So we are not even mentioned. We could not afford Hines so how can we beat these other schools out for him?

If he is in the area he probably was being recruited by Pitino who has deep pockets to land him.

Who cares what the GM thinks. It’s Shaheens team, if he wants to spend 90% of the remaining money then so be it. Just one of the many reasons a GM is pointless and wasteful for our program.

Could be, but if those schools are definitely interested, he wouldn't need us to drive up the price.

He may be hedging because a lot of those schools may have already filled their roster with players at his position...so he wants to hear their pitch vs ours and weigh some PT issues...

Guys hes not visiting seton hall to drive up the price when blue bloods are involved already lol
The more schools he visits the more he shows he has high market value and hence the price competition goes up. His price is out of our pocketbooks unless money is not the concern on his part and he wants a smaller school environment and the NY market? And he wants a SHU degree. hahahahaha

Perhaps we are willing to pay him more and of course have more PT to offer than those other big boys. I mean those schools already have players at the 5, at least I thought.
SHU hopefully would be paying him starter money, but Arizona might be paying him 10th man money or they may no longer be interested as he already visited Arizona. Granted with how whacked out NIL is, Arizona end of bench guys probably make more than our starters.

I think St Johns is looking for another Center.
They are looking to add to Prey and Freeman at the 4/5, it seems, but have not seen them mentioned once with Williams. So nothing to worry about there. UNC on the other hand is being rumored about for every decent big option.

If he wants to play come to Seton Hall
If he wants to get paid go to Ariz/UNC/etc
Thing is he will get paid here IMO. Payne was one of our two highest paid kids last year by all accounts and we have $$$ for the 5. So he is probably getting a ridiculous amount regardless and with the limited number of 5s may be in an overpay situation.

Teams like UNC and Arizona have the wherewithal to pay him more as a bench player than we can pay him as a starter. You have to hope UNC and Arizona don't value him too highly, that we step up and make a strong offer AND that Sha and Nelson can sell him that starting at Seton Hall will make him more valuable in next year's Portal than coming off the bench at Zona or UNC.

Losing our best guys every year kills us but you have to use it as a selling point. Guys come here with low to mid value and leave for big money. Hines, Budd, Simpkins, Kadary, Dre, Samuel.........

That's the sell to me. Come here, you basically have unlimited minutes at the 5, and position yourself for perhaps a huge payday next year (even if it won't be with us).

The media exposure, TV, radio, cable, NBA, scouts etc.. Lots of positives to be playing in the NYC area! A lot different than Arizona or UNC.
UNC and Arizona do not suffer from lack of exposure. And Seton Hall gains nothing from being close to NYC, aside from the occasional recruiting help that gives us in securing a kid to play close to home.

Question is if we have $2.5 to $3.0 left to spend and still need to fill about 60 minutes at the 4 and 5, how much do you offer Williams?

Sha has to come out of his 700-900k comfort zone knowing how bigs are paid. For him is that 1.1-1.3? That's unlikely to get it done.

Let's assume the Brazilian is a 20-minute per game guy at the 4 and Williams is a 26-minute guy who will play 5 and maybe some 4. You still need 2 guys who can get 15-20 minutes each.

If you have 3.0, think you go as high as 2.0 for Williams, try to find another sturdy Center who can just rebound and defend similar to Payne. Maybe the 7-footer from La Tech for 700k and the best physical/defensive guy you can find at the 4 for 300k? If you believe in the Brazilian and you figure you will play some 4-guard lineups at times, this backup 4 could be just a 8-10 minute guy like Josh Rivera. Should be able to find one of those from a lower level for 300k. Maybe thats what they are thinking Nwuli for?

Yup, college player getting much more exposure at UNC or Arizona than he is getting from NYC TV or radio market. Scouts will find him wherever he plays and all games will be available for any of those schools.

Not to mention -- and I don't get why folks still reference this -- we get zero coverage from the media capital of the world. The NYC media machine is real for sure, but we don't benefit from it. There will be more articles in the NY Post about Uconn than there will be about Seton Hall, and Uconn isn't really getting much either. The NYC media market cares about St. John's, and that's it.

Braziller gave Willard and us a ton of coverage at the New York Post when we were good. Of course a lot of our kids were NYC guys. He also hated Mike Anderson as the head coach after awhile - really was on a mission to get him out.

Yes I recall Zach giving us some brief, periodic attention during the IW-Angel-Deano period, but in the grand scheme even that wasn’t much at all. Certainly not where one would use it as a selling point for “exposure”.

I think visits are still common for all the reasons they were in the past plus some coaches workout the kids, which can be valuable itself.

It was just one game but I was at the FAU-FGCU game this past season and the only FAU player that impressed me was Parker . I don't remember Williams so I checked the box score and he had 5 pts and 4 rebs . The center for FGCU just transferred to a Big12 school UCF . Hopefully if he comes to Seton Hall he's better than what he showed that one night .

BTW, FGCU had a freshman guard from Philly who spent most of his youth in South Jersey, Jordan Ellerbee . He was only recruited by Lehigh and FGCU but a few weeks into the season you knew he was seriously unrecruited . Against Kennesaw State, a tournament team, he scored 42 points .
He has transferred to Butler and I wish the Pirates had taken a run at him . The rumor I heard in Southwest Florida is he signed with Butler for a million .

We would be an odd choice to help drive up price.

That has to do with who you play and how much you win. If Shu actually played a top notch out of conference schedule, and won those games and won a lot of BE games SHU would be getting a lot more NYC media coverage. Success gets you coverage and it has to be quality success.
