So as we know he was a standout hear at Rutgers and has been a perennial Pro Bowl Safety for the Pats. My question is, is he a NFL HOF safety? Belicheck said he was at the level, wonder what others think. Would be cool to have produced a HOF player out of Rutgers!

The guy's going on his 8th year as a starter. He's got a couple Super Bowl rings. I think if he wasn't playing at a potential HOF level, Belichick wouldn't have kept him around.
Deron Cherry should've been elected to the HOF already. Unfortunately, he was tucked away on a very mediocre Chiefs team during the '80s.

Being a player on a team that wins a lot is a terrible case for HOF...
I love the guy. I root for him. I appreciate all he does and has done for RU.
“HOF level” (whatever that means) and Having the “highlight reel” and the PR That will get you the votes to get you in, are two different things.

All-Pro is harder than Pro Bowl. Making All Pro second team 3x is pretty good (only made Pro Bowl 2x and I think once was after someone dropped out). Lots of Pro Bowl players never make All Pro anything. DM is certainly getting near nominating territory imo. The fact he does better with All Pro than Pro Bowl means the media and others who vote know him better than the Pro Bowl popularity contest voters
Devin in a great pro but HOF are the best of the best. There are only a handful true deserving HOF safeties since 2000.

Couldn't agree more. He was the best pro out of a group of very talented players in that maybe 5 year span.
He has had a great career and most likely will have a few more good years in him. Type of career that most guys coming out of college could only hope to have. HOF? To say he may be that next level just below HOF is not a bad thing. Think Hernandez, Mattingly, Munson...
My take on HOF is when you hear their name, you instantly don't even question if they should be there or not. I don't know how many people outside of NE or here at Rutgers that would instantly even think HOF when they hear his name. And that is not a knock on him, playing this well and being quiet is a very good thing when playing his position.

You get voted to the HOF based on stats mostly. Being in the league 8 years and being a captain mean nothing to the committee.
Not even close. To make it in as a safety you have to be game changing and a playmaker. He's been consistently good, but that's not enough.
McCourty was not very good as a CB. He's been one of the better S since Belichick moved him there. But not HOF. His counterparts during his time would be Earl Thomas and Eric Berry, and they're better than McCourty. If Landon Collins keeps it up, he's on track for a HOF career.
Not yet but if he can keep this level for another 4-6 years and another ring or two then I don't see why not.
