Good. I think they need to get at least one more interior DL from the portal. You need a strong rotation capability for those big guys upfront going against B1G monster size OL.

We may actually have a chance of going .500 this year. Somewhat weaker schedule, better players, and less Frost coaching makes for an improved team formula.

This should be the new meta for Nebraska. Recruit local talented kids who are loyal and will develop over 4 years and then hit the portal hard. 9 times out of 10 we will end up winners in the portal thanks to NIL.

nice. Fills a need.
I will never underestimate what Vince is able to do to continually upgrade NU's talent pool.

With Mickey, Applewhite, possibly Raiola, NU has a really dynamic group of coaches/recruiters being led by Vince's instincts.

Mathis and Drew really begin to fill in some of the gaps NU was in desparate need of filling.

I won't wager, but I would not be one bit surprised to see NU bring in one more relatively good DL, and I hope NU will bring in another 1 or 2 higher quality linemen.

After 4 years of Held doing his basic "direct mail" approach of 400 kids, the NU system now appears to be targeting individual players that fill needs on the overall squad.

NU is possibly 1-2 years away from legitimately challenging for the Big Ten title as long as we keep these 3-4 guys in the fold. Not drinking the Kool Aid, just projecting my overall confidence in their recruiting history.

It all hinges on this year. Because if Frost lays another turd, he is gone, and most likely his entire staff as well. But adding this kind of talent on the defensive line is just huge. It might just be what Frost needs to turn this around.

Not that it matters, but my overall view going forward in the next couple of years do not include SF as the head coach. I think he has shown the inability to get it done at the Big Ten level.

With or without SF, NU would have won at least the 3 games they won last year, (Fordham, Buffalo, Northwestern). And it's likely a better head coach would have won a couple more games with the same team.

SF has already proven he will not pay attention to detail. The reality of winding up with the small numbers of DL bears that out. After signing WR after WR, and DB after DB, the DL was not even viewed as a priority.

The DL has become a priority, and those shortfalls are now being addressed in a serious way. The same holds true for the inadequacies of the OL. I think a concerted effort will be made to bring in 1 more DL and hopefully 1 or 2 higher quality OL to upgrade the talent.

As far as I'm concerned, and I know no one gives a crap about my views, but SF has proven he has the ability to hold the program back. Once he gets something in his head, he simply refuses to change. It's one of his main downfalls.

With the level of talent he has had available, Chinander has done a decent job. The offense has had to remove 4 inadequate offensive coaches in order to become forward thinking.

As the old saying goes, "lead, follow or get out of the way." SF has not shown the ability to lead, it remains if he will allow himself to learn and follow a long time OC like Whipple, it is beyond time for SF to get out of the way.

Opposing viewpoints are welcome.

Definitely Needed the depth
Good get. I suspect in a few years college football will be like basketball. One and done. Players will move around annually based upon the coach and how much money they can make from endorsements. Guess that's how things work now. Why even bother to take courses. Different world we live in now.

I think there will now be a real push to get another DL signed. I would think in the near future NU will get some interest from some of the available OL's in the portal.

Without any knowledge of their actual ability, I can see a focus on bringing in someone like the Ray kid from Colorado. He's the #3 rated Best Available OL, and is only a Sophomore and has been in the portal since Jan 22. That's a long time for a presumably talented kid to not be signed somewhere.

I think the other OL kids like Adams, Webb are beyond NU's ability to get signed as they are SEC players who would likely wind up somewhere down south. But there are still a lot of OLmen still available, and I think for the right type of player, the NIL money could be made available.

Having said all that, I have no idea as to their character content, their academic standing, any off field issues, etc.

Just my opinions.

the biggest is frost coaching less, can he leave it to the assistants or does he still dictate a lot. If he continues like the past we’ll unfortunately see the same ole crap

Are the Huskers under Frost going from a team of good players transferring out of to a team of paid mercenaries? Good or bad I think this is the current state of college football. I just hope they are the good mercenaries and not the bad ones.

I mean there have only been a handful of "good" players that transferred out.. We've had some success with transfers in.. Time will tell on this group..

Good question
Without looking at talent vs. talent, Rogers has/had a long history of injuries. In looking at the number of snaps Drew played over 900 snaps and didn't miss a game in 2 seasons.

He may be more durable, but now being in a more physical league it could change. It's worse having a potential starter/top backup being unavailable
to play due to chronic injuries. Rogers fits that bill. Drew doesn't.

Just one.
One season to help fill a perceived weakness is better than none.

I think the current coaches and recruiting system will view this season with Robinson, Nash, and the others and if they feel they need more quality help in the DL going forward, a real effort to bring in some DL talent could become a focus.

If NU places a priority in bringing in 2-3 quality DL's and decides to make the NIL money available, its possible NU can really upgrade that DL to make it one of the top 3-4 DL's in the Big Ten.

Both Rogers and Drew average just shy of 3 tackles per game over two seasons played, the difference being Drew played the entire season last year.

As for now will Drew be upgrade over Rogers..
We can't change history, but how well would Daniels have been received had he chosen to return for another year? NU would now have the makings of a helluva DL.

Nelson, Drew, Daniels, Robinson, Mathis.

That could be a pretty salty bunch.

Yes. Damon Daniels clowned himself.
