Kahlil Whitney was #11 recruit, got benched.
EJ Montgomery was #9 recruit, played limited reserve minutes.
Wenyen Gabriel was #15 recruit, Willis took his starting spot and his minutes after they split time first half of season.
SKJ was #23 recruit, hardly saw the court, played behind Willis/Gabriel and fewer minutes than Humphries.
Skal was the #2 recruit, got benched and played fewer minutes than Lee/Poythress/Willis.
Dakari was #10 recruit, played fewer minutes than sophomore WCS (then Dakari earned starting job by end of year)

I guess your saying that Cal gave them every opportunity to shine when they did not earn it. And at the last resort Cal had to reduce their minutes because they were a detriment to the team.
In reality they should have been treated like a freshman and brought along gradually because they simply were not ready.

And you have other guys not rated as high getting less minutes because Cal is trying to shine that 5star up

I throw up a little in my mouth everytime Booker splashes another three.

Flashbacks of him sitting the bench with Cal. Ugh!!
Booker and Ulis on the bench, and the Harrisons in the game and can't even get up a shot before the shot clock goes off 3 times, with the game on the line. I bet Higgins loved that. He didn't have to screw the Cats at the end of the game. He did that earlier, but didn't have to at the end of the game, the coach did that.

I had forgotten all about those violations. Bloody hell, I kicked the wall when I read that! Though kicking the wall is improvement from seeing that in live action. That 💩 was painful.

If there was ever a point shaving scandal, that game sure looked like it. It looked like Higgins and the Harrisons were in it together.

The Harrison twins were starters on a team that played in the NCAA title game a year earlier. They were going to start in 2015. The Wisconsin game was the one game they missed Poythress and I think one of big reasons they lost to Wisconsin.

Kat single handily kept us in that game, he’s the only offense we had much of the second half.
That was my only complaint . I know a lot of people bring up Ulis and Booker over the Harrison twins , but Cal slowing the game down and not going to Towns he was unstoppable was what cost us the game .

Seeing Towns dominate Notre Dame and Wisconsin in the paint was amazing . That’s why I wish he didn’t fall so in love with playing on the perimeter in the NBA.

That’s a syndrome nearly all NBA big men now seem to come up with. They all want to prove they can play out on the perimeter like little men, even if that’s not where they’re at their best. Even AD seems to have caught it the last couple years, and he was the best “in the paint” guy I’ve ever seen at UK.

So different than the days of Shaq and Hakeem.

Moses Malone, Tree Rollins, Robert Parrish, Patrick Ewing, Bob Lanier, so many more.

True. The thing is, Cal should’ve moved away from the switch everything defense. Now, if Poythress had been healthy, the switching defense would’ve worked against Wisconsin. He was the one hybrid forward we had that could really matchup with them. Booker and Lyles just couldn’t do it.

Cal also should’ve had the guys shooting more 3s to stretch their defense. That’s why we couldn’t find a passing lane to get the ball to KAT late. They knew we weren’t gonna shoot the outside shot. They covered KAT like a blanket.

Hate to say it, but Cal got absolutely out coached in that game. Didn’t help that Bo Ryan was his buddy. He’s always had a problem beating his buddies. It is what it is.

I will say, if the game had been officiated evenly, we win. Still, Cal wouldn’t adjust in order for us to win. We just weren’t gonna get the calls in that game.
I still cringe thinking about that missed shot clock violation. I believe we were up 4 and would have had the ball. Instead the officials miss an obvious call - can’t review it- and W hits a 3.

Do I remember that correctly?

I think we were up 2 and that layup made it a tie game. We had a shot clock violation on our end. Wisconsin comes down and Dekker hits a 3 to give them the lead IIRC.

100% right about that . I was talking about that a few days ago that all the talented Big men spend too much time on the perimeter. Towns , Embiid and like you said AD. Before Boogie went down he was also on the perimeter a lot .

The days of the dominant inside big men are no more. Back in the 90s there were just so many great inside big men. You had: Olajuwon, Shaq, Ewing, Robinson, Mutombo, Mourning, etc. The game has definitely changed.

Those were all college players from the 80’s. Don’t forget Ralph Sampson in college.

Yeah, I was gonna mention Sampson and pre injury Bowie. Neither of those guys were dominant in the league. They were, however, dominant in college. To think, they both should’ve been Cats together.

yes... they were highly ranked, and he to see if that translated to college.
That was he MO... and it has worked with the vast majority of players UNTIL the last 3 years or so.
I hope he has changed to earning the minutes in practice. But, it is hard to argue the results (overall)

Kat was 5/8 in the 2nd half. That's not what many call dominating . He had a good half but it wasn't anything crazy. The N Dame game was the one I remember him dominating in

Kind of a tough call, AD seems to be a bit fragile. He's only played two seasons where he played 70+ games. He's a force on both ends of the floor when healthy. But I think I might take Booker.
