Don't expect to see Derek Sherrod any time soon. When asked if the 2011 first-round pick would start practicing next week, McCarthy said "I don't know about that."As training camp continues, Sherrod remains a fixture on the sideline.
"He's really a product of his medical classification," McCarthy said, "and that's really the fact he hasn't passed his physical where you can't get into the contact, the loading — the final step that he needs to get ready to play offensive line and every offensive linemen who's been hurt goes through this. It isn't something new. That's kind of where we are."

It's unfortunate. I remember seeing the injury... it was gruesome. He's one of those players I don't worry about though. He's one of the smartest football players to ever roam our campus. He could do anything he wanted if football doesn't work out.

Hopefully he can come back in 2014 and win a spot at RT. I don't expect it to be with the Packers though.

From another Packer site.

As we've been hearing for weeks, Derek Sherrod is getting closer to making a comeback. "The medical staff feels good about the way he's coming along. Sherrod's confident but he hasn't passed his physical so can't do contact." Coming off his gruesome leg injury, Sherrod was never going to be able to step in for Bryan Bulaga. However, with left tackle seemingly in safe hands with David Bakhtiari, Sherrod won't be rushed in his recovery.

thats good news....i would have opted for adamantium bones, but if hes going to do it the old fashioned way, he needs to heal up the right way and do whatever he can to stay in playing shape...if thats possible at this point considering the severity of his injury. hes a tough guy, just keep the hammer down and i think things will work out.
