The 9-16 season had little to do with off Covid and social issues and if it did, Cal deserves criticism on that front for making it such a part of the season.

Obviously other teams seem to manage and have successful seasons despite it all.

Example: The night Oscar broke the rebounding record, I listened to the post game (which I rarely do) and Cal spent the majority of it talking about masking, bragging his team being fully vaccinated (which is irrelevant for COVID transmission) and how everyone in KY needs to go get their booster shots. This isn’t Cals responsibility or what I tune in for a presser for. Also, still pretty sure a BLM banner hangs in the practice facility. It’s past time to get back to focusing on just playing basketball.

The are focusing 100% on playing basketball while we have some "fans" still focusing on 9-16 because they have an agenda.

Fans are allowed to be critical of a 9-16 season. Period. This wasn’t years ago, it was last season. Imo this year and next will determine if he’s righted the ship or not.
Of course they can be critical. But, like I said, some are using it like some sort of weapon. But you and I will never agree on much if you are acting like the chaos last year had nothing to do with our odd season. See ya.

I think that it did, but a ton of it was self inflicted which was my point. Again, other teams found a way to tune it out/deal with it and still be successful. Why didn’t we?

I wouldn’t say we were the only ones affected either. UnC and Duke were also effected. Heck even KU had a meh year. I mean when is the last time Uk, Duke, and UNC we’re not in the Top 25. It was nearly 50 years ago.

So, sure. We got the worst of it. But let’s not act like we were the only team that suffered because of it.

I would say youth and inexperience. Duke and UNC and other blue bloods with new players were awful last year, which had as much to do with reduced practice time as much as anything. Experienced teams like Gonzaga and Baylor played well. Last year was bad - so Cal fired the entire coaching staff. Soooo I guess he agreed as well lol

Was nothing in my post(s) that suggested we were the only team. But plenty of teams rose above the challenges to have great seasons. Gonzaga and Baylor for example. I’d make an argument for how those schools handled things differently than our staff did, but this may get moved to the political thread so I’ll refrain myself. Regardless, none of the off court stuff was a legit excuse for 9-16.

Agree with the youth and roster turnover aspect.

What is it exactly that I’m wrong about? And why would you have a bunch of current posts about a player that played 26 years ago? You realize Cal is the Current HC right so obviously we will discuss him on this board lol
You don't want discussion...you want everyone to see things the way you do.

DA makes a simple comment and your first reaction is to slam him....pretty clear where you stand.....Cal first

It was a normal year too. The fans were jam-packed into the stands. There was no social unrest to further distract people, either. No excuse to have such a totally out of character season......

Oh wait.

Cal haters using the fake outrage over last year's mess reminds me of Democrats clutching to January 6 to ride it for all its worth. You can repeat last year's record a million times, he is not leaving and he'd nowhere NEAR getting fired.
Yeah that social unrest played a HUUUUUUUUGE role in our masterpiece last year .. God you are stupid . Just what rehashed beat down fool are you ? Anyone figured it out yet ? Has to be someone that got so exposed they ran off to a new username .

I won't stoop to your level, but in a year with no fans in the stands where neither Duke nor UK make the tournament, yeah, it played a role.

Sorry you are such an angry person. Wow. On a Sunday, no less. IGNORED.

LOL !!!! Dan IS a Colt fan. He's ready to tear the place apart after getting CRUSHED by J-ville and my boy Josh Allen. Too freaking funny. I nailed it.

I myself have been considering letting the NFL be relevant in my life again.. could wait to who the Bengals pick as coach but that doesnt change the douche bag ownership . So I'm leaning Colts . Always thought Luck would be a star . Close by . kinda . But is their owner a big time Lib ? Ties to the Clintons or big Obama guy ? Would be a deal breaker for me , signed right wing nut .

Thats kinda scary .. data mining my post to find a NFL thread from 3 years ago ? wow . FWIW my flirting with the NFL must have been very short lived .. I couldn't name a single Indy colt player , not have I watched a NFL game in 3 years .

This recent one didn’t come during that season. Sounds much like he is just jaded to me. Turning this into Cal vs UK is such a strange way to look at things. I will always support what is best for UK. Once again if you go back to my comments after the ND game you will see that I had big questions to whether this team could find its way. But I think they can.

yeah that unnamed coach has one of the best teams technically in college ball rn. The highest scoring offense in the Sec and a top defense in the country as well. Lost to LSU but if wheeler and tyty healthy we win that game.
Plus, 96 might have easily been one of the best to do it ever.

Stomped? That was a stressful game. UK didn’t stomp anyone. No offense.

also, UMASS stomped us at the beginning of the season if you do recall. That was not a great way to begin.
That F4 game was never in question in the second half. The regular season game wasn’t a stomp either. It was tied at halftime. Continue with your narrative, though.

I get it man. I understand what you are saying. I'm giving DA the benefit of the doubt. Besides, he's definitely allowed to have an opinion.

I'm not going to disparage him even if he did tweet that toward Cal.

Geez, 1996 UK is probably the Greatest college basketball team of all time and had an amazing first half at LSU.

Why flaunt it like that instead of just being humble and a gracious winner?
I'm not mad at that because I don't think he is bragging just saying how much better we could be if we pressed and blew teams out it's sad Cal would never use all the depth and blow teams out because Pitino pressed !

He's literally not flaunting anything. He's merely pointing out that some unnamed coach has a **** offense.
He didn't point anyone out and if you watch any team other than UK a lot of teams run dribble hand off/weave style offenses these days. While it may have been a shot at Cal it would also apply to a lot of coaches in todays style of basketball. Sounds like a bunch of you are assuming and we all know what happens when you do that.

I saw a different Final 4 game than you apparently.

If you're talking about the November '95 matchup, Pitino had Delk at PG, a mistake he quickly fixed.
This this and this. The adjustments pitino makes on the floor, and Tubby for that matter, are a notch above Cals in game adaptations. Cal has the other 2 beat in other areas but floor coaching is not it.

Yep. After that PG change, that team absolutely took off. No question the best team won it all in 1996. Totally agree on the rest of your post as well.

I didn’t take what he said as a shot and thought it was more about basketball in general but even if it was so what? DA who won a freaking NC here has the right to be critical of Cal without people throwing a temper tantrum. It’s not that deep.
Our fans are apparently the only ones who can criticize our players, coaches, etc.

I do not understand why people keep asking this question. The answer is simple...talent disparity. If you think Cal is anywhere in Pitino's league in Xs and Os then you need a new hobby.

Total nonsense. The same people that say Calipari suks constantly say Pitino can take nothing and turn it into something. Funny to watch the Pitino nut huggers try to spin Cal being his landlord. Hilarious.

Its also a lame excuse to say "we only lost because they had better players!" I'm sure that's what the other teams said when Pitinio had McCarty, Delk, Masburn, etc.... were you making excuse for those coaches? Hell no.

smh

Has nothing to do with Pitino being a better X and O coach. Cal won’t even run a damn OOB play, won’t use timeouts, won’t zone, etc. Why he doesn’t do these things is unclear. Still true, though.

You just made my point. If Cal sucks, then so does Pitino because both win big when they have the greater talent. People here shamelessly want it both ways. I’ll just laugh at the hypocrisy.
