Straight line winds of up to 130mpg observed on radar as we speak. Also have a confirmed tornado on the ground with the same storm. Stay safe for those in Chicago area…especially on the south side.

These storms came through Waterloo/CF this morning around 6AM, not yet severe warned. We lucked out. They turned severe about 10 miles east of here, and got up to 80+ mph winds pretty damn quick.

Hopefully folks stay safe. Yesterday was the 6 year anniversary of the CR Derecho that hit gusts of 143mph.

I’m in the northwest burbs and everything is on the south side so seems like a nothing burger for me. But I know we have posters down there. The straight line winds are probably the biggest threat in the area as Iowa folks know quite well.

I hour ago I had a trip to Indy canceled. Storms are inbound over there as well.

Last year, we had a tornado rip through Saint Louis. I wonder how bad and expensive it would be to get one running through Chicago.

extending from East Chicago to near Griffith to Shelby to Hopkins
Park, moving southeast at 85 mph.
