Not sure we want every player who hits the portal unless our coaches know for sure he is going to be in our top two. Didn't we try this with our RB transfer from USC and he had better numbers.

Deondre Jackson was a highly-touted recruit coming out of Stone Mountain, Georgia in the 2020 Aggies recruiting class, but in two seasons with A&M he has seen action in just three games and had just one carry in 2021.

In a running back room that included Isaiah Spiller, Devon Achane, L.J. Johnson, and Amari Daniels, it became evident that Jackson was the odd man out.

Spiller is off to the NFL, but it would seem Jackson hasn't climbed the depth chart. Peeking into the future of the position in the Aggies program, Achane is certainly No. 1 while Daniels and Johnson both had more than 20 carries last season.

Maybe Jackson saw the proverbial writing on the coach's wall. Whatever the reason, he has entered the transfer portal, joining linebacker Antonio Doyle, cornerback Dreyden Norwood, and quarterback Zach Calzada.

Highly rated? 3*, 5.6, #80 in his own state and #40 nationally for RBs.

With his lack of playing time, how in the world can anyone know where he is at in his development?

In short, what is proven here?

He’s 230 lbs now. Big dude.
He had good offers out of HS despite lower ranking.
I would hope coaches would see him workout at least to see how he moves with the extra luggage.

Get as much talent as you can

No one here has shown they deserve their spot.
I don't think anyone is arguing that concept. Does he fit the bill of the talent that is better than what we have now? Then, you have to consider needs at other positions.

This is the new normal. If you don't make it in the SEC, move down to the Big Ten. Vice versa for Big Ten studs (see Wandale Robinson and Jamison Williams).

Wandale transferring wasn’t about B1G vs SEC. It was about returning to his hometown and family, about not liking how he was used and liking in contrast how his new team planned to use him. And about separating yourself from a staff that only knows how to lose.
